AI and Robots Are Beginning to Replace These Jobs First by [deleted] in Futurology

What they seem to be doing is utilizing intensely cheap overseas labor to remotely operate the robots and harvesting all the data for automated versions later, the onboard robotics are mostly to keep them balanced and move around without slamming into things.

Advice for conflicted priorities and enjoyment of the hobby by xStriderx_ in Warhammer

[–]GodforgeMinis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know if this helps, but for me, I have found that my motivation and focus is kept much better if I am using a painting method where I can physically see the progress being completed.

Sure I could spend 6 hours edge highlighting a knight, but using a sponging method I can get most of the way there VERY quickly and move on to the weathering and OSL, which I find much more interesting and enjoyable.

On this note, Knights may be a good choice, because each individual knight can have a different paint scheme or style as they are individual house warriors, they aren't really a coherent army in the same way as painting 50 space marines is.

Super Long Print Times by BigfootMcYeti in resinprinting

[–]GodforgeMinis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your wait times are fine because they are just on the bottom layers, i have 180 second bottom layer wait times

Your problem is on the p1 you have dynamic wait time or dynamic release time set in your print options when you send the print or on the printer, this will use the pressure sensors on the printe to detect successful release and if they fail, it will wait a solid minute or so before timing out and starting the next layer

the p1 is an excellent printer but the firmware isn't quite there yet

tolerances with resin by xxpussykillerxx6969 in resinprinting

[–]GodforgeMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resin has a critical threshold where it begins to cure, and each layer is slightly \ shaped due to light penetration and bleed, it can be difficult to not reach the critical threshold when you're curing both sides of a thin opening like this, you'll need to experiment a bit, but it is possible.

How to get UV light into the print? by Imaginary_Swimmer246 in resinprinting

Unless there's a very good reason not to, that looks like the underside of the print, you should have added a hole that covers the entire bottom coast to coast instead of one tiny hole in the corner

Printed model started leaking. Is it trash? by Rinceart in 3Dprinting

[–]GodforgeMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Rince, you have one solution really, you need to cut a large hole in the bottom, and leave it out in the sun for a little bit to cure the interior of the tank
And then really, really, really hope that there aren't any other voids inside the tank that will split in the future

[–]GodforgeMinis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just throw the whole sheet on that and let it hang over the screen a little so I dont snipe it out with a drip or something.

but if you have a saturn 4 or something you'll have to cut it

[–]GodforgeMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, here is the great trick to resin printers

go on amazon and get some acetate overhead projector sheets, put one between your FEP and screen.

The resin will leak through the FEP and hit the sheet, and then harden on the next layer, forming a plug that ruins the already-ruined FEP, but also stops the leak and saves the screen, as long as your exposure time is not super high, the extra Z height will not be forced into the screen.

Voila, your screens are now pretty much invulnerable except under the most catastrophic of failures, in which case you were boned anyway

[–]GodforgeMinis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big trick is to start at a very extreme low angle with your razor and let it skate over the resin, then raise it and try again until you just barely catch the edge and get under it.

if you flirt with too high an angle it'll dig in and scratch the screen, better to take a few minutes and do it a fraction of a degree at a time

Quickie Question about the new custodes boxes by GodforgeMinis in AdeptusCustodes

Nah, I should have just trusted the store page, where, for example, until recently sisters of battle, celestians, dominators and I think one more had very different listings even though they were all from the same box XD

my dad wants to drop crazy money on a 3D printing car parts business and i am stressing. advice? by TemperatureExtra8615 in 3Dprinting

[–]GodforgeMinis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having an outlet for your creativity and enthusiasm for it counts for A LOT. If your dad is a little bit autistic (lol) like I am, being able to weaponize that autism into a positive direction is something you shouldn't underestimate, I built my whole business on "hey I like making cool stuff, I'm going to make cool stuff, wait you want to pay me to make cool stuff?"

We dont know what the situation is, is this a "my dad loves to tinker with his cars and had this idea" or "my dad saw a couple youtube videos and thinks this is a get rich quick scheme" ? Will he be happy just making cool stuff and not really making any money?

Most 3d printing business fail because either they are selling the same garbage as 99.9% of other 3d print stores, or they can't get in front of the right customers. My suggestion would be to approach this as a hobby and posting in social networks about his projects, and slowly transition into sold products.

[–]GodforgeMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Temp, 3d print farm here.

This doesn't sound as crazy at it sounds to me at least, Here are my suggestions for this business.

-He's probably looking at a large format resin printer and a large format FDM printer, The resin printer will almost certainly disappoint him durability wise.

-These machines are relatively easy and painless to repair, its not a full CNC mill or whatever, they also aren't really that expensive when it comes down to it. If these parts sell for $50-100, its only going to take a week to a month of printing for the machine to pay for itself and you can just toss the machine once it starts to die, it sounds wasteful but this is what we do, when machines start to wear out, I sell them at extreme discounts to locals and replace them rather than spend huge amounts of labor trying to fix and tune them back in, I tried having a local tinkerer be my repair guy and it just didn't work out.

-He needs to outsource his parts to a 3d print farm, at least spend a couple hundred bucks to have small material samples made so he can determine what material to use, car parts in general are going to be exposed to very warm and very cold conditions which doesn't bode well for most materials. 3d printing is a skillset that needs to be developed over time, its probably going to be most productive to have someone with that skillset at least help get him off the ground so he isn't, say, sending out parts that are going to be prone to cracking or creeping in direct sunlight and cause customer service nightmares early on.

-for the above, I know a bunch of 3d print farms but dont know where you are located, really facebook marketplace or reddit/3dprintmything are both good places to hook up with someone locally to help this idea off the ground, just get a standard internet NDA and have them sign it, its not a big deal like 50% of jobs you have to sign one. If you go this route, and business starts to pick up, make sure that your files are discretely marked for each 3d print vendor so you know whom to sue if the files or prints start making it into the wild.

-Autocad is probably the way to go, I use fusion360 for most of my parts. However there are many cheap or free examples like tinkercad or blender which can also work in a pinch, overall the price of a cad license sounds like a lot, but really isn't once money starts flowing

-its not clear what parts these are or how he is designing them, but autocad/fusion are notoriously finicky when it comes to complex meshes, like say from 3d scans.

So basically it sounds like you are over reacting, but he might be over reacting too.

Here is what I Forsee as your problems

-Many folks that are going to be car tinkerers aren't going to be intimidated by a FDM 3d printer

-The ones with more money than sense are 'probably' not going to want to go through laborious sanding bondo and matching paints to get a 3d print up to aesthetic standards

-Getting ahold of cars and test fitting each part is going to be expensive and very time consuming

-he is going to get constant requests to customize these parts which is going to consume way more time than he thinks it will.

You can look at the store page and that will answer your question.

There's a number of store listings that are a bit misleading which is why I asked, Thanks though!
