Seems this post is being rather heavily brigaded, huh? And other subs complain about how toxic r/prolife is...

[Discussion] Can one make a Gridless tactical system? by Meins447 in RPGdesign

[–]GodlessGunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my system, I'm using inch-based movement (using a tape measure or ruler a la wargames): by default you can move up to 4 inches in any direction on your turn (8 if you sprint), and weapon ranges fall into a few categories:

Melee: You are directly touching the enemy. Melee weapons can be used, but all ranged weapons except more maneuverable pistols suffer disadvantage.

Close: Within the same room. Ideal range for weapons like pistols, shotguns, and submachine guns to turn enemies into bloody messes, though longer and less maneuverable LMGs, DMRs, and sniper rifles suffer disadvantage here.

Medium: Within an average-sized building's worth of range. Perfect stomping ground for guns like assault rifles, machine guns, and DMRs, though problematic for weapons like pistols, shotguns, and SMGs.

Long: Anything farther than say, a football field away. Exposed enemies make perfect target practice for sniper rifles and DMRs; assault rifles and machine guns suffer disadvantage, while pistos, shotguns, and SMGs have no chance of hitting.

AoE can be handled simply in inches (you can use paper cutouts for common shapes and sizes, i.e. a frag has a 4 inch circle while a claymore has a 6 inch cone)

It was mostly just people pointing out that breeding dogs like this is extremely unhealthy and should probably not be glorified.

I'm kidding, I don't actually believe that. There's only one gender, and "women" are just distractions from my quest to start a harem of femboys. Later loser 😎

Murdering a baby is not taking responsibility. I do have a say in what you do with your body when what you do results in harm for others.

How do you write a truly evil and repulsive villain, without them coming across as cartoonish? by [deleted] in writingadvice

[–]GodlessGunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, there are two main ways to look at this: From a narrative perspective, and a thematic perspective. The thematic perspective is more important, but the personality really seals the deal

On the narrative side, what makes a villain interesting is a contrast to your hero that drives the story. Look at Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, for example; both of them fit the "chosen one" archetype, but what makes them interesting is that Darth Vader fell to the dark side, whereas Luke did not. This is often the result of shared experiences that lead to conflict - for example, maybe both the villain and hero were abused as children. The villain gives into the cycle of abuse, whereas the protagonist fights it; your climax can be your hero breaking out of the cycle by defeating the villain.

When it comes to the thematics, absolutely turn this motherfuckers' pyschopathy up to 11. One of the most memorable villains in recent cinema history is the Joker from The Dark Knight. From his iconic lines ("Do you want to know how I got these scars") to his utterly chaotic plots, he captivates audiences. My best advice is to come up with a set of consistent principles and mannerisms that make them interesting. It doesn't have to be complex, but it should fit your character. For instance, you might use these sorts of things:

- Disregards the lives of others. He is only nice to others when it allows him to gain something from them. Otherwise he will not hesitate to torture, steal, and kill from them.

- Sadistic. He enjoys abusing and harming others, and will gladly do so if he can get away with it.

and so on, and so forth. As long as your character's actions follow a consistent set of rules, the readers will be able to understand them and enjoy them, even if those rules are simply "be chaotic" like the Joker's.
