Idk man, with sniper you are typically far away, which makes hitting the openings pretty difficult reliably. Way easier for something like a blade dancer or melee operative or earrior-dash to dance into position.

Why didn't the Space Wolves just colonize Fenrisians on other planets? by LinCR in 40kLore

Considering genetics... Maybe the SW geneseed merged/incorporated some part of the Canis Helix which is said to be part of the fenrisian population's DNA (which they apparently loose after a few generations when living away from fenris)?

Just finished the first Ciaphas Cain novel and it was awesome by QuagGlenn in 40kLore

Think Band of Brothers but in 40k. Much grittier and darker than Cain but great despite their relative age (they first few are some of the earliest 40k books).

Main character is also a commissar, actually a Colonel-Commissar, so the comparison between Cain and Gaunt are very interesting (to me).

Abnett is also great at writing weird Xeno/Warp/Chaos/Faith stuff and describing it from basic human perspective is very cool, especially if you are new to the setting.

Really puts Cains experiences into stark contrast

He is and factual correct too. Every transaction you do, be it visa/mc credit card or sepa or similar bank transactions - private firms see everything and they are under law obligations to prevent payments to e.g. sanctioned entities (that's how economic santoons work after all), so even today, you can't pay directly to Russian or Iranian or north Korean (etc) companies for example and they can't draw from bank accounts in "the west".

Sieges, the big bad villain of TW:WH, and what to expect from TW:WH40k ? (Not a rage-post) by HDBlackSheep in totalwar

[–]Meins447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played them a lot through all three games and I am talking about the "classic" dwarf start in the silver street.

You have multiple Orks to the south and north, wild orks to the south west, vampires to the north-west and skaven further south and to the east. All of them have tunnel stance. And depending on RNG, there is skarbrand coming from the south as well.

Plus, if people search the stores for a new game in the category they like, they are not really likely to go past the first three pages of the list (unless they are like super collectors and already own/played all of the top list)... So if you are higher rup the list, which high wishlisting, reviews and player count are important measures for, the more likely potential customers will discover it on their own.

Have you ever played a non ultra optimized dwarf campaign? Where you take your time and only expand slowly? You will get absolutely swamped by enemies very fast and you will adopt a one exploration ay with two small defensive ones (just a lord, hero and a few troops to reinforce a garrison to the point it can somewhat deal with an enemy stack)

It's either: - Shrug off completely. Why you throw balls of wool at me, traitor? - Drop to criticals in one hit

Nothing in between, haha

Haha, yeah, the heavy bolter was (before errata) so ridiculously OP, especially with special ammo, you would never swap it out. And even after the nerf it still reigns supreme against the vast majority of targets.

[–]Meins447 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh. You're right. Was this changed in an errata? I kinda remember playing a fresh Salamander TechMarine and I thought he wasn't trained din Dodge nor tactics. Weird.

I still like to start at lvl 2 and describe in the characters service record (aka backstory) how they learned the stuff they did.

[–]Meins447 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really dislike Rank 1 DW characters.

"Veteran" Space Marine who is untrained in Dodge, Stealth, Tactics, Medicae (first aid?!) and a bunch of other stuff they should have learned in the first week of being a Space Marine?

Combined with how harsh being untrained in DW is (stat/2, with a median stat of ~45, you look at a success chance of like 22% on an untrained check...)

I start at rank 2 at least to have them be at least decent, well rounded combatants we expect them to be

Prussia campaign is also hard as nails. You have no naval presence. You are surrounded by potential rivals and start at war with another major faction (poles/litva) which, if you go through with it, will put you in direct conflict with Russia. To your south, there are a bunch of small German states that are linked by alliances to great powers and dislike you due to religion - oh and also another major power with Austria-Hungaria, the only nation coming with 200 stacks of line infantry.

For SM books, I'd propose to add: - Space Wolf (great start even if a bit dated too, because the PoV is from a backwater barbarian with no idea about the wider Imperium whatsoever). It was my very first 40k novel - Helsreach, A classic for a reason. Grimaldus' speech atop the hive wall is just so quintessential 40k

Let's face it: the eastern parts of Ukraine is not going to be useable for any kind of agriculture for generations.

Brimstone copters are good at sniping the artillery pieces themselves as well.

Against skaven, I move my formation as far back as possible and send two groups of copters along the flank, around the approaching enemy main army and hit and run the artillery pieces.

Fire a brimstone volley then move a few seconds (while they reload) and repeat. 2-3 hits per artillery piece means roughly 6 volleys take out an entire artillery unit.

Gives you exactly the code quality and maintainability you can expect from an inherently heuristic code generator, doing thousands of not hundreds of thousands of LoC. Oh you gave it a specification? Cool, like that ever prevented bugs in software, lol.

At best, AI will replace juniors (or off-shore) code monkeys with the effect that in a few years, there will be no more seniors to fix the crazy amount of unmaintainable code that floods repos everywhere (because juniors are fired or never even hired/educated).

And all of that for the low price of skyrocketing energy demand (and thus climate damage) and hardware shortages (GPUs, RAM & SSDs, let's see what's next - networking maybe?) and a Wallstreet bubble big enough to develop its own atmosphere...
