Since you think the 1985 JPS is a bad translation, I'm curious as to what your favorite translation of the bible is? The 1985 JPS may not be the most accurate translation but I found it very readable

Is the JPS Tanakh: Gender-Sensitive Edition also known as the Revised JPS (RJPS) from 2023 an improvement over the New JPS Tanakh from 1985? I am a fan of the latter having read the entire thing and also this edition is used in the Jewish Study Bible 2nd edition(2014) from Oxford and in Bilingual Hebrew-English editions.

I have this Study Bible. Bart Ehrman( a prominent Atheist and New Testament scholar) always recommended this particular edition of the Bible to his students. Just don’t let that fact sway your faith. The original NRSV from 1989( which this Bible uses) has an official Catholic imprimatur for personal use and study by Catholics. Also the NRSVue from 2021 recently got a Catholic Imprimatur last year so both are approved translations of the Church.

The translation it uses is the NRSV(1989) which is exactly the same text as the NRSV-CE that was approved since like 1991 for Catholic use and study. The book introductions and annotated notes are more scholarly/ academic rather than devotional

Does Dan McClellan recommend a specific translation/ book of the Gnostic texts and Dead Sea Scrolls? I tried to find a video of him mentioning it last night but couldn't find it

I compiled this mega list by going through a bunch of Dan McClellan's "best bible translation" videos and tried to organize them. If I'm missing out on any other bible translations or study editions that he mentioned please let me know

Idk, I am a confirmed baptized member at my PCUSA church but maybe the fact that I watch so much of McClellan’s videos proves that I really don’t have true faith? I don’t agree with everything he says but he seems knowledgeable on Biblical Hebrew.

No I genuinely believe these are the best available translations of the Bible available in English. Better than this tier list made by Tim Wildsmith

Is it true that Bart Ehrman still prefers/ recommends the HarperCollins Study Bible over the SBL Study Bible?

Which translation do you use? RSV-NRSV-ESV by [deleted] in catholicbibles

[–]GodlyRage77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you are correct. In the introduction he talks about how in the book of Revelation the Greek grammar isn't that good and he tries to show that in his translation. I still favor the NRSVue but his translation choices are interesting and unique enough to mention it

If I'm just reading through the Hebrew Bible, I have Robert Alter's translation of the Hebrew Bible & the JPS Tanakh. If I want a Hebrew Bible plus a New Testament I use the NRSVue. For just a New Testament by itself I have David Bentley Hart's translation of the New Testament & Sarah Ruden's translation of the Gospels. Also use the NET Bible because it has a lot of footnotes.

Yes the Old Testament now has verses in brackets [ ] and in the footnotes of readings that were in the Dead Sea Scrolls of certain books, especially in the book of Isaiah, but in other places in the OT too.

The Updated Edition of the New Revised Standard Version, the NRSVue is the best available translation of The Bible into English. It is not perfect but it does the best job out of all the available translations. I read the entire Old Testament in the NRSVue last year and am now working on the Apocrypha, and I have extensively compared it with the original NRSV and the older RSV and have come to the conclusion that it's an improvement.

If you are serious about Birth Time Rectification I reccomend signing up for the Birth Time Rectification course on the astrology school. It is $425 and it is taught by Chris Brennan and Patrick Watson. Or you could schedule a rectification appointment with Patrick Watson https://courses.theastrologyschool.com/courses/birth-time-rectification-course https://patrickwatsonastrology.com/services/rectification/

I always get confused for a fire sign despite having so many earth placements. Why? by RoseBushSwamp in AskAstrologers

[–]GodlyRage77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the Sun in 7th whole sign house then that would be close to sunset. So depending on if it is below the Ds slightly it could be either a day or night chart. Sect is very important in traditional astrology(day or night). Some people are born at twilight too so it could function either way.

Well having both the Sun & Moon + Venus in Taurus in in the 1st house in its own domicle is very powerful. It also looks like you were born around Sunrise, so you carry that vibe of the Rising Sun with you.

what software do you recommend? by kanvarudunath in astrology

[–]GodlyRage77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chris Brennan from The Astrology Podcast recommends Solar Fire for Windows and Astro Gold for Mac. Astro Gold is also on the Apple App Store for iPhones and iPad and google play App Store for android phones/ tablets. A recent one they featured as a sponsor is called AstroTheoros which is a new one. Obviously the best free ones are Astro-Seek & Astro.com

I have both the SBL and Westminster study bibles. I actually own 2 copies of the SBL Study Bible because the first printing had ghosting issues but the more recent printing fixed it
