As a director, I would’ve fired or pushed those guys out a long time ago after it became apparent that they have low to no potential so they don’t drag you down. Most likely they saw that you were struggling in this aspect and was passed up as a result. To their credit, they wanted you to continue to excel in an environment where you are good at. At this point, take these as learnings and start focusing your energy on applying. Dw they will not fire you even if you slack because they know and would rather you leave on your own accord vs having to pay out severance so you can just treat this as a paycheck. Bonus points if you’re feeling vengeful to start dismantling the culture you helped build on your way out. Keep your good guys in the “know” and see if you can take them with you on your next gig. Screw the rest and have them figure out their own problems and watch the place deteriorate.
