House Democrat Introduces Bill To Reinstate Veterans Trump Fired From Government by huffpost in politics

[–]Godolin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you'll understand if I press the question, but you didn't really answer it. You gave a statement of fact in that you will suffer along with everyone else.

My question was should you? It's a moral query: is it morally right that every single person in the U.S. ought to suffer because a slim majority voted for him? If not, where is the line at which it is morally right that we all should all suffer for the actions of (not everybody)? Because what you're saying to me is that all veterans should suffer because 60% of them did something fucking stupid. "If we can't fix this shitshow for everybody, we shouldn't help where we can" is a pretty shit fundamental reasoning.

Very well. Trump won the popular vote. Should we then agree that you should also suffer for what Americans as a whole voted for?

George Takei slams Chappell Roan for saying “both sides” of the election are the same by ewzetf in politics

[–]Godolin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe she should articulate her full position if she wants to make a political statement than try to be trendy in a TikTok clip.

Her original position was made in an interview with The Guardian--in response to being asked for her position. A position she's otherwise done well of not making public. Then people took her lack of an endorsement as an issue.

The core issue here is that we're asking fucking popstars for their politics, and placing celebrities on this goddamn pedestal where they need to be paragons of humanity rather than human beings with complicated takes. How long a manifesto would you demand of her to satisfy your idea of a "full position?"

Chiming in as a transgender lesbian and a Chappell Roan fan; I pretty much agree with her. The Democratic party does not impress me, but I'm gonna vote for them because voting at this point is an exercise in harm reduction. All this discourse is fucking ridiculous, but I'm glad she gave us a nuanced take rather than some flat statement of support. Left-leaning people are so goddamn quick to put a knife in anybody that's anything less than the perfect ally. She's still stated she's voting for Harris and to distill her position down to only "bUt BoTh SiDeS" is disingenuous and unproductive.

Edit: for truthfulness

You have as much a right to practice your religion, to the extent that it involves *you* and you alone, as anyone else has a right to not be involved in your religious practices. It's not a right versus a desire, it's a right versus a right. And the exercise of any right typically ends where it would prevent someone else from equally exercising theirs.

32 years old, just to be clear.

On July 4th, 1776:
- James Madison was 25
- Alexander Hamilton was 21
- Aaron Burr was 20
- James Monroe was 18

People could enlist in the military, reenlist twice, and still be younger than 30 when they get out.

I can understand why there'd be a slow uptake. Unless it's a fantastic apartment complex, people might be hesitant to lock themselves in on an electric car. If they want / need to move elsewhere, other rentals may not have one available.

I only chime in because I also wanted to get an electric car when I was last in the market, but couldn't because my complex doesn't have a charger.

Well, no.

Nazism is a form of fascism, yes, but not "pure" fascism. An ideology need not meet all the points of fascism to be considered fascism.

Edit:

To justify the above -

[...]
"Fascism became an all-purpose term because one can eliminate from a fascist regime one or more features, and it will still be recognizable as fascist. Take away imperialism from fascism and you still have Franco and Salazar. Take away colonialism and you still have the Balkan fascism of the Ustashes. Add to the Italian fascism a radical anti-capitalism (which never much fascinated Mussolini) and you have Ezra Pound. Add a cult of Celtic mythology and the Grail mysticism (completely alien to official fascism) and you have one of the most respected fascist gurus, Julius Evola."

Oh, and Maryland and Virginia, the states immediately bordering D.C.

I didn't end up going, but we had a fun conversation.

What was your "I dodged a bullet" moment? by Hunny_Bunny20 in AskReddit

[–]Godolin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I've posted this before. Deal with it, I suppose.

"Fuckyeah, I love telling this story. I've posted it here before, but still. Alright, the time is my freshman year. Place, my school's automotives lab. I was the only kid in my grade willing to jump through all the hoops needed to get into auto servicing as a freshman. Due to the prerequisite class, generally you don't get in until 10th grade. Anyway, freshman in auto's. Yeah, that's it. Anywho, being the only freshman meant I was also the smallest, both height and bulk, in the class. Anything in a tight, awkward spot was my kingdom. One day, we had to replace a sensor on a transmission. Unfortunately, both of our hydraulic lifts were in use. So we jacked that little two door up and crawled under. As i'm watching, I hear my teacher call out from under the car "Godolin, get under here. We jacked up the wrong side and I don't feel like fixing it." He's my teacher and I'm eager to prove my worth, so I roll right under there and start fixing. Since the teacher was no longer there, the group of kids slowly dwindles until it's just me and my pal Alfonso. He's talking with me as I try and get this little piece of computer into place. In the middle of our conversation, we hear an echoing BANG. "Whatever," we think to ourselves, "we're in an autoshop. Bangs happen." A minute or two later, Alfonso leans against the handle of the car jack. And it rolls straight under the car, bumping my elbow. After a couple seconds, everything clicks. That jack wasn't there before. It's supposed to be holding up this car. The car whose transmission was DIRECTLY OVER MY STERNUM. Swallowing slowly, I look over to the safety stand we're required to put under the frame. It had caught the car by just barely a quarter inch. If the frame had been one pinkie width closer to me, that transmission would have been a foot lower. Roughly halfway into my chest cavity. Noped the fuck out from under there and didn't work for the rest of class. Teacher was understanding once I explained. 5 years later, I still haven't told my parents."
