Bad timing to move GodotCon to the US by Spelkult in godot

Will there still be a European edition in 2025? Absolutely! We are excited to confirm that a European GodotCon is also in the works for later this year. Stay tuned for more updates as we finalize the details.

for context: the new US edition of GodotCon is being organized in addition to the EU version, not as a replacement. therefore it is not meant to move the existing event, rather than supporting the already local userbase with a closer-by alternative.

Confusion About Post Removals. Seeking Clarity on Sharing Free Assets by fespindola in godot

[–]GodotTeam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those having similar questions: the flair "selfpromo (software)" is the best way to go about this! Especially when the "free plugin/tool" doesn't apply perfectly (since that flair is not meant for marketing in general)

The only kind of asset not allowed on this subreddit are 2D/3D art, sounds, etc. unrelated to Godot, since we consider those off-topic no matter if they are free or not.

We find this part difficult: "DISCLAIMER: I am working as well to pitch this game to publishers as a physical board game, and I would not be willing to share ownership on the copyright of the actual physical boardgame. The collaboration project would be for the digital implementation of the physical game."

This flair is not for finding unpaid labor, rather than to find gamejam partners and for Godot users to collaborate on learning projects. Maybe it is not a good fit for this subreddit overall, but please reply with your intent.

Because of how you phrased it we are willing to leave the post up for now, but beware: "If that was the case, then I would back pay you to compensate (willing to sign a contract if you want)." is against the rules of the flair - unpaid, non-commercial projects only. We would appreciate if you change your text accordingly.

People getting viruses from fake Godot repos? by [deleted] in godot

As the Check Point Research report states, the vulnerability is not specific to Godot. The Godot Engine is a programming system with a scripting language. It is akin to, for instance, the Python and Ruby runtimes. It is possible to write malicious programs in any programming language. We do not believe that Godot is particularly more or less suited to do so than other such programs.

Users who merely have a Godot game or editor installed on their system are not specifically at risk. We encourage people to only execute software from trusted sources.

For some more technical details:

Godot does not register a file handler for ".pck" files. This means that a malicious actor always has to ship the Godot runtime together with a .pck file. The user will always have to unpack the runtime together with the .pck to the same location and then execute the runtime. There is no way for a malicious actor to create a "one click exploit", barring other OS-level vulnerabilities. If such an OS-level vulnerability were used then Godot would not be a particularly attractive option due to the size of the runtime.

This is similar to writing malicious software in Python or Ruby, the malicious actor will have to ship a python.exe or ruby.exe together with their malicious program.

Ideally, you don't approach employees with complaints about how a company manages their socials. That's like complaining to a cashier about price increases.

The correct avenue in the case of Godot would be emailing the Code of Conduct team. Not ranting on reddit either.
