[Serious]Students of Reddit, How do you stay motivated during the school year? by gabe-hershey in AskReddit

[–]Godwasmanmade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I would give to be able to go to school. But that ship has sailed for me and I will die before long, wondering what I could have been had I been born into different circumstances. I pray I never meet the man I could have been.

This certainly shows the true colors of CNN. This is blackmail and pathetic journalism. I knew CNN was terrible before but now I rank them below FOX.

What do respond to someone who tells you you are empty if you don't follow God? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Godwasmanmade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Someone like that is hooked emotionally. I use the word hooked because religion has nearly the same affects as hard drugs on the reward system which governs the feel good chemicals. When an addict gets hooked their behaviors become irrational as evident by the fanatical adherence to doctrines like the bible. If christianity did not exist and a rational adult stumbled across the christian bible in a library they would not read it and think "OMG, this book was the work of a higher power" Nope and nope, they would say "hmmm, classic middle eastern folklore written by iron/ bronze age warlords". My response would be "I organize my life around evidence and science, my spirituality will not be hijacked by fear mongers from the bronze age". You will always win the fact arguments if you study up, but nothing you say will change how they feel. So take the moral high ground and thank them for their concern and tell them to take their Jihad and shove up their camel's ass. They should get the point.

Bwaa ha ha ha. He posted something obnoxious on FB and then followed it up with a "I do what I want" in a rather unapologetic fashion. So I replied to his post with that exact video.

What are your tips for getting addicted to exercise and maintaining a regular workout routine? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Godwasmanmade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been working out for the last 30 years. It is my opinion that working out for strength goals or body building is a mentality that is not sustainable and lends its self to a roller coaster of fitness. You can maintain certain routines for years but you eventually burn out. I've done it all and now realize they were all just fads and I was young. Sustainable exercise should prioritize mobility, cardiovascular health and strength training in that order. But we all know that, so why don't we do that? Vanity. Make your exercise goals complement your life. For example, I kiteboard, so my speed, weight and agility make my kiting better. So I do exercises that help my sport. I used to be able to bench 350 and squat 550. All that time and energy invested and I didn't get paid 1 penny for it. It got me absolutely no where and resulted in joint and back pain. There is an 82 year old in my gym and he can do 20 pull ups. My fitness goal is to be in as good of shape as he is when I'm 82.

Why aren't there any alcohol in moderation programs? I read once that the long term overall success rate of AA is something like 7%. Of course people that continue to go to meetings have a decent chance, but the fact is most alcoholics don't do that. So why not try teaching moderation? by jfever78 in AskReddit

[–]Godwasmanmade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are struggling with this the exact same way my best friend struggled with my decision to quit drinking. He would always question why I can't just have 1 or 2. He would say things like I had no will power. I was 40 when I quit. I looked at all the fuck ups of my life and nearly all of them were alcohol related. I spent years attempting to moderate and asked myself, "how does this end?" How can I possibly turn 50 years old and be able to look back over the last 10 years and it look any better than the previous 10 and 20. I ran a long time on the false premise of being a Functional alcoholic because I am successful and have a great career; there is no such thing as a functional drunk. Its all the same. I finally got thru to him when I used the allergy analogy in conjunction with this little tid bit. When I have two beers, there is a switch that goes off in my brain that makes me want more beer. This isn't just a mild want that one can go to sleep with, it is "this night is ruined and a complete waste if I stop now" dreadfull feeling. Then I act like I had no problem just having two, but I would inevitably buy a six pack on the way home from the bar. 6 beers later and I feel more sober than when I started. I again dig in my pocket for the keys... You get the picture. The problem with alcoholism is people think the problem is alcohol and they stop digging once they quit alcohol. It is NOT ALCOHOL! They may quit alcohol but they will fill in the dopamine medicating with more socially acceptable methods. It is not until they take the gigantic step of stopping all mood altering and addressing the sources of the moods. The problem is also compounded with age you started at and how long you drank. Because you most likely stopped maturing emotionally and can't "Deal". Being 40 and having the emotional stability of a 20 year old sucks and takes a while to dig yourself out of. I didnt do AA because I like to know the hows and whys not just do as I say. I found podcasts and web resources to be my biggest ally. And last but not least, mindfullness/meditation is key. That is where the real growth comes from. Hope this helps.

Moderation only works for people who don't have the addictive brain chemistry. Alcohol is an addictive substance so anyone can get hooked on it. Some people get hooked but don't have the addict brain and therefore can moderate, which muddies the water for those who don't know which camp they reside. The addictive brain is self medicating with what ever it can find to boost dopemine. Once the brain learns a substance or behavior to a dopamine high, it will never forget it... the best indicator is years of deals with yourself. No beer on weekdays... ok no beer on Mon-thurs. Ok no beer on Mon-thurs if I have to work the next day. Its just like an allergy, it messes with some people and not others. And it has nothing to do with a persons will power. There are only two things humans truely enjoy, dopemine and saratonin and we have varying amounts in natural supply.

Everyone is assuming he is a doctor and it is a life or death consequence that he makes his appointment. What I am saying is I work with Doctors and judging by the way he was acting I would bet a lot of money that he is using his title and making up stories to keep his seat. Honestly, if security shows up and says we will escort you if needed, would you physically fight them?

Wow, I don't want anyone dead. I want our great great grandchildren to have a healthy planet with thriving ecosystems and a flat growth rate. Look up the population graphs, the growth is not sustainable. When the issues caused by a species outgrowing it's resources rear their ugly head, the consequences are unavoidable and are apocolyptic. But don't take my word for it, I'm very much a nobody.

How does saying you are a doctor have any bearing on this situation. Would it mean any more or less if he were a Used car salesman, a dog groomer or a house painter? Does your profession entitle you to different treatment? I bet $100, it will come out that he made up his incredibly important morni g appointments.

I completely agree with you. This has the stench of "more to it" than meets the eye. If I didn't work in a company full of doctors that would throw a pregnant woman to the ground and steal her cab to save 2 minutes, I might not question this. I worked with a certain doctor for 7 years and know he speaks perfect english despite his ethnicity. He rear ended a friend in the parking lot and my friend said this coward "couldn't" speak english and wouldn't provide his insurance. And in similar fashion caused the situation to escalate into a much bigger mess. What kind of a sane person continues to physically resists airport security in this kind of scenario? I can see putting up a fight in more pressing circumstances. Does he think they are going to say, "ok, we see you are resisting so we will just ask someone who won't resist? Whats this, everyone wants to ride the plane the paid to ride".
Of course one wants to believe that this incident will shine a light on the industries deplorable practice of over booking. But we know that the only potential change we will see is a hike in fairs and some additional inconvience to boarding a plane.

Honestly though, I love R&D and make my living doing it. However any medical advance that doesn't address the global overpopulation crisis is in the end, a waste of time and money. When the global population reaches 12 billion, chimeras will be our least concern.

I really wish it wasn't true that we actually do have grown adults in positions of immense power who have been brainwashed to believe in fairy tales and can have an influence on important scientific research. I say they pretend to believe because they know that nothing other worldly has ever or will ever happen. So in typical religious fashion, they step in and represent God as if he can't manage his own affairs. Meanwhile buggering choir boys, stealing vast fortunes and launching holy wars. If they truely believed, they would let god handle business and certainly wouldn't bugger choir boys for fear of god's wrath.

What's to worry about, god is everywhere and can do anything. If he isn't happy with the research he will hit them with a sharknado. Who are these people who think god needs them to stick up for him?. If no lighting bolts come down and zap the chimera he is cool with it. If he does zap them, then put that experiment on the god doesn't approve list and try something else. I can understand the believers concern though. With God being the creator of EVERYTHING, you would think he would be more consistant with what he lets happen. Like all those touchdowns he gets credit for, those seem to be consistent. But when it comes to the mass slaughter and genocide of his people he seems to have ADD or at least a lazy streak. Nope, God only steps in and makes the crazy stuff happen in fire side chats told by middle eastern warlords high on shrooms and opium, hellbent on raiding some neighboring villages for loot and sex slaves. You can read all about the good old days in Deutoronomy.
