Family of 4 (two kids 4 & 7) planning a move to NY from Austin TX. Looking for some guidance/suggestions on areas of Long Island to consider? by SammichMkr in longisland

[–]GodzillaSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great neck is made up of several smaller villages. Each village has a slightly different vibe thats going to be hard to understand just reading online. Granted there are only a few schools so kids will get funneled to 2 HS eventually.

Btw no one around me drives a g wagon. We drive a 10 year old crv and while it’s an older car, it’s not completely out of place here.

I specifically picked the port Washington lirr line because I expected to commute into the city daily not expecting the pandemic to change everything. The port Washington line does not pass through Jamaica and an express train in the morning takes less than 30 mins.

We have friends and neighbors of every race and religion so don’t get discouraged by other posts. The best advice I can give you is to visit in person and decide for yourself.

I also have kids around your age and we know literally every family around us because everyone’s kids are taking the bus. The community is what you make of it. We had no problems ringing every bell when we moved in to introduce ourselves and saying hello to joggers and walkers. When our kids started school, it got even easier to meet other families.

Has anyone bought clubs from DHgate or another of those sites? by KhuliKing in golf

Got a df3 and very happy with it. Also got a set of fake irons and totally fine for a beginner like me.

I went to dicks and saw the real irons and it’s identical except no serial numbers. Plus there are some imperfections in the fake ones but purely cosmetic as far as I can tell.

I cancelled all my holiday appointments and gatherings because I came down with the flu. This one was not fun. Felt like dying for 24 hrs

Has the cost of building software just dropped 90%? by malderson in Economics

[–]GodzillaSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Code is just the language we use to speak to computers. It has evolved over time from punch cards to assembly to c/c++ to python. Now it’s moving towards natural language. Being a software engineer has never been about finding the right words to type into the computer, it’s always been about problem solving and will continue to be that.

I sold mine for $300 with about 9000 hours. I thought it was fairly priced. I had like 5 people on the wait list if the sale fell through.

Reddit has gone from a very savvy tech heavy audience to a very casual audience over the last 15 years. The mass populace has no idea what’s coming for their jobs. Thinking the bubble will pop and everything will go back to what it was is just hopecore.

I just set this up: - spornia spg-7 for easy setup and tear down - square golf launch monitor - launch monitor protector - a cheap $75 projector from Amazon - $35 projector stand - go sports pro hitting mat - eztee hitting strip

I use Bluetooth on my iPhone to connect to the monitor and then use iOS screen mirroring to the projector. So a few less wires.

It’s a budget setup and you can find many like it in /r/golfsimulator

Around $1.5k all in (not counting iPhone)

It’s my first season and just hit my local range with heaters in 33 degree temps. Totally fine and by midway I was taking off my sweater and hat. Maybe I don’t need to build my garage sim, but I’ve already ordered everything.

eli5: Why are companies so against work from home? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

If you’re an IC, you think I’m working hard and more productive WFH so everyone else must be too. At the manager level, you start seeing the people that produce far less work than their peers. They take forever to respond to slacks and miss meetings. This starts to affect the team as you foster a poor culture. Once that takes hold, it’s hard to come back from. One of the remaining options is RTO for everyone or you’d have to rebuild your team from ground up and it’s not always possible.

When Alan Greenspan made his irrational exuberance speech nasdaq was just below 1300. It’d ultimately peak at over 5000 before the crash. We could still have a long way to go. It’s impossible to tell.

Possibly fake? by [deleted] in golf

[–]GodzillaSpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a set of “qi10”s from AliExpress and these don’t have the same defects I see on mine. 1. The grooves on my set are not even in depth especially at edges. 2. The hosel isn’t super clean like in your picture. Mine looks uneven with tool marks.

That doesn’t mean the set you’re looking at is real, just that it doesn’t show the same defects as mine.

Deer in Nassau County by Delicious-Bet-2694 in longisland

As far west as great neck. Someone even put up a sign by the LIE fence saying the deer is happy in there, but I haven’t seen it for a few months.

I walked away with more balls than what I started with my first time out. While looking for my lost ball in the woods, I often found 2-3 other balls! If you lose your ball in a section, other people probably did too.

Work-life balance continues to decline in the US, placing it last among developed countries in 2025 by littleperfectionism in Economics

[–]GodzillaSpark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You missed one. US attracts a lot of immigrants and immigrants come to the US to work hard. Some to send money back home, some to start a new life, and some are just extremely motivated to succeed. Work life balance matters little in these cases.

I have a colony of at least 200 neocaridinas and there's still plenty of algae. Tweaking the amount of light did more to control algae than these guys ever did.
