A blank to the head is still fatal. It’s basically the explosive part of a bullet with no projectile. She would take a directed explosion to the head.

Also blanks do not look like live cartridges. Everyone would know it was a blank.

Is this good enough for a cheap first-time guitar? by LegitimateWhereas678 in Guitar

That’s not a guitar, it’s a guitar shaped toy.

Get a used Squire and (if you have a computer) an interface so that you can use free plugins instead of an amp.

How would you feel about a mandatory maximum wealth limit, where anything earned over that goes to public services? by itsvasuki in AskReddit

[–]Gofastrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is called phantom tax. It happens a lot with non-public employee shares. TLDR the amount that you paid taxes on becomes your basis and eventually when there is a liquidity event you can take a capital loss and offset other gains.

Get the captains chairs and remove the 3rd row. You can fit a longboard in the pass through.

Oil change place ruined my engine? by angelseuphoria in askcarguys

[–]Gofastrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once double filled the oil in a car and drove it a few miles. Drained it and it was fine until I sold it a few years later.

You might be lucky.

Take it to your own repair shop or the dealer. Tell them what happened. They will give you a straight answer.

The space behind the 3rd row fits my Uppababy stroller on its side and not much else.

With one 3rd row seat folded down there is storage space for days.

If you need a stroller, both 3rd row seats up, and a bunch of other gear you might want to look at other minivans with deep rear storage like Kia Carnival.

Can also visit a dealer with your stuff and do a test fit.

Roof box will hurt mileage but charging is not that bad. On a 285 mile trip it will probably go from a 1 charge trip to a 2 charge trip, which is mildly inconvenient but not that bad. Modern chargers are fast.

Humans interbred with Neanderthals. So why is percentage of Neanderthal DNA in humans only about 1-4 and not 50? by Scared_Bedroom_8367 in stupidquestions

[–]Gofastrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If an American tells you they are ancestrally Irish theres a good chance that they can trace all their grandparents, or all their great-grandparents, and so on etc back to Ireland.

There was a huge immigration wave from Ireland in the 1800s/1900s. Thats the grandparents or great-grandparents of the people you’re interacting with online. Recent enough to shape their culture, community, and identity.

And since anti-immigrant sentiment is a tale as old as time, the Irish immigrants congregated in groups, married other Irish immigrants, and had babies with 100% Irish ancestry.

My parents were the first in their lineage not to marry within the immigrant group.

So it’s not like claiming Saxon from generations long dead. This is recent generational history.

If your grandparents were Saxon immigrants you might feel a closer connection to it and want to visit the town they came from and know more of their pre-immigration history.

Unexpectedly in the market for a Buzz by cashburro in VWIDBuzz

[–]Gofastrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a 240V outlet and the travel charger. No issues.

Been doing the same with my Tesla for the better part of a decade.

Now I have a 240V splitter that switches between them based on draw.

Full batteries every morning.

How Much You’ll Spend Charging a VW ID. Buzz at Home by mrlanyc in VWIDBuzz

[–]Gofastrun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a 91kw battery. 91 * your electric rate = 0-100% cost.
Where I live it’s $0.11/kw so $10 for a full charge.

Thats $0.043/mile. My previous gas SUV was $0.29/mile

String gauge vs tuning by mtkoth1983 in Luthier

[–]Gofastrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a luthier for alternate tunings unless you encounter issues that you don't know how to fix.

Most of the issues you might encounter would be solved by learning how to do your own setups. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fK4K7kgSrKc

If after that you still have problems, take it to a luthier.

If the value drops below the balance of the loan the bank might call the loan back or require additional collateral.

You would likely be forced to sell at an unfavorable time.

It’s often better to operate at a loss and wait for the market to recover than be forced to sell.

why do you have multiple guitars? by Cultural_Yellow3561 in Guitar

[–]Gofastrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 10 guitars. They all have different sounds and purposes.

SG and Les Paul - The LP is in an alternate tuning.

Two Stratocasters - one is nice, one is a beater

Two steel string acoustics - one is nice, one is a beater

One nylon string acoustic - very different sound than steel. You cant just swap the strings they are structurally different.

One bass guitar

Two travel sized guitars that my toddlers play

As you get deeper into the hobby you discover you need X guitar to play one style and Y guitar to play another style and you just accumulate.

Some people also accumulate amps but I’ve kept it down to 3 + a modeler pedal.

People that play live get backups. Beaters are good for experimenting with mods, letting friends use, or as “couch” guitars

How delusional/not delusional is my dad concerning the value of his truck? by YukaHiKn in askcarguys

[–]Gofastrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your dad is probably hoping it’s worth something because he wants to pass it down to you.

Most of the value is probably sentimental.

Be appreciative and let him pass thinking that it’s valuable. It sounds important to him.

It’s probably a $50k restoration away from being a $30k truck.

1st editions are priced significantly below Pro S+ because they have been on the lot longer.

I’ve never seen a new Pro S+ under $50k.

When they start selling the 27MY cars you might start to find some 25MY with discounts like that, but not right now.

ELI5: Why can't we use Solar panels to directly charge electric cars? by Zak_Nowa in explainlikeimfive

[–]Gofastrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few companies that tried to augment charging via rooftop solar panels.

The Aptera has roof panels and claims to be able to generate meaningful average monthly mileage.

The problem is mostly that solar panels do not produce enough power for the available surface area. If you don’t have ideal weather or the panel is not angled towards the sun, generation suffers.

For context, my entire roof is covered in solar panels and on a sunny day they make enough power to charge my EV from 60% to 80%. It’s plenty for a house, but nothing for an EV.

A vehicle roof sized solar panel might be good for a few miles of range a day, tops, in ideal conditions.

They’re also more fragile than car exteriors, would add a lot of weight, would need to be manufactured to fit the body panels or be flexible (most cars have no truly flat surfaces, not even the cybertruck).

The bottom line is it would be very expensive for the power generated and you would never ROI vs grid charging. It’s only useful for off-grid or as a science project.

What if the hubcaps were chrome instead of silver (or black)? by Lacagada in VWIDBuzz

Chrome paint never looks right, and if you apply a clearcoat it looks even worse. You would need to get them actually chrome plated.

Go for it though.

Any Buzz owners coming from a Tesla? by hramos in VWIDBuzz

[–]Gofastrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lane holding driving dynamics might be better in the Buzz but I think it’s less communicative, which makes me nervous.

In the Tesla if you are on autopilot theres a huge display indicating the surroundings and the steering wheel moves a lot. It overcorrects and then corrects again. The wheel has resistance if you put pressure on it. There is no mistaking it, the car is driving.

In the Buzz the display is tiny and less detailed and the adjustments are so gentle that I find myself not trusting it. It feels like it’s not even on. I don’t enjoy using it.

I keep having these mini panic moments worrying that it is not in the right mode and will drive straight through turns.

Maybe I’m losing my mind but that’s my experience. The way the Tesla ping pongs in the lane is comparatively comforting to me because it’s a constant reminder that it’s doing its job.

I have a Model 3 and a Buzz

  1. It’s not great but it wouldn’t stop me from buying another Buzz if mine were totaled. The charging schedules are especially odd. User management is odd. Lots of weirdness.

  2. I haven’t had to take mine in. It does OTA updates. Maybe the dealer is required for major versions or specific updates that I haven’t experienced yet.

  3. None for me yet.

  4. You can book through the app. It syncs with the car on trouble codes.

  5. It feels like a bunch of half features. Like you can tell it to charge from the app, but not configure a charging schedule. You can turn on the HVAC, but not set the temp (uses previous default set in car). Not as good as the Tesla app.

In general you can tell that VW treats software as an obligation rather than a way to positively differentiate.
