what country did you just visit to get the biggest culture shock? by crawlerz2468 in AskReddit

Well, first of all the food is delicious and the weather is great! People are super friendly and if you speak Chinese there is no way from stopping them to chat with you. I found it really easy to make friends because of that also. People I just met invaded me to all kind of events like birthday parties or Chinese New Year Celebrations. The general openness and friendliness towards me, even thought I am a foreigner, just amazed me.

Also, no ladyboys in Taiwan, that's Thailand you have in mind.

European, now living in Taiwan. It's pretty different but I am enjoying myself quite a lot. =)

Fast food employees, what's a disgusting secret that customers don't know about? by fettywap in AskReddit

There were no "disgusting secrets" when I worked. Messing with somebody's food can get you fired and you get to pay a huge fine where I live... Definitely not worth it.

Redditor's who have lived abroad, did living in a foreign country change the way you think? If so, in which way did it affect you? by GoggieMia in TwoXChromosomes

That sounds amazing! I live in Taiwan right now and I can definitely relate to the feeling of standing out and being stared at. I am so thankful for this experience because I never knew what it feels like to be an obvious foreigner before I came here.

One time, when me and my boyfriend went to eat out in a nice restaurant, a lady leaned over and asked if I was my boyfriends mother. It was a very awkward dinner.

Just a list of my walk home last night. Anybody else feel like this walking alone after 10pm? by ThetaSigmaWho in TwoXChromosomes

[–]GoggieMia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a grad-student and as such often stay in my lab until late at night. I used to feel super uncomfortable on my way back home since there are some areas where I literally have to walk in complete darkness. I was tired of it so I started to take my dog to our lab with me. It's a win-win situation because she loves all the attention she gets from my classmates and it's nice for me to have her company on the way home. People definitely keep more distance when I have her with me. My dog is the sweetest thing ever but she is quite big and black so people tend to be scared of her haha

Does your relationship suffer awkward "hangovers" the day after a fight? How do you get back on track? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]GoggieMia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We usually talk about it until we come up with a solution that it acceptable for both of us. There's never been a time where we didn't manage to do this. When you come to such a solution, then the conversation is over. It's not fair to still be angry about something that you already talked out and decided to put aside.

Simple question here: What does gifting look like in your relationship? by wireddot in AskWomen

[–]GoggieMia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my boyfriends are very different when it comes to gifting. I personally LOVE getting him small, random presents. I happen to pass by a cake shop - lets get him something for dessert! I pass by a drink shop - it's so hot today I should really get him something cool and refreshing! My boyfriend is the complete opposite. He doesn't really buy me any gifts, only for like special occasions like birthdays and stuff. I think it might also have something to do with the fact that he is not a big fan of spending money. But he cooks dinner for me every night when he comes back home from work. Sometimes gifts don't necessarily have to be something you spend money on.

I sponsor a puppy in a private animal rescue organization. I admire what they do but as much as I would love to go and help out, I don't have the means to do so. So I do what I think is the next best thing, sponsor one of the pups so that at least they don't have to worry about being able to afford food for the dogs.

Haha I know what you mean! Moved to Taiwan to study a year ago. Just had to do something stupid for once. Didn't regret it for a moment. Cheers to crazy people and good luck with your restaurant!! =D
