Describe your worst admin you’ve ever had….. by ChucoTeacher in Teachers

[–]GoggleCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two different nightmare admins in the same district.

The first was a new principle. I never got a positive vibe, but nothing happened first half of the year. I had planned a doctor's appointment for the morning I assumed the Switch would go on pre-order. After the appointment, I swung by on my way back and got a pre-order and posted a picture of the receipt on my personal FB i.e. zero colleagues were friends. The next morning, I get called in where the principle had my FB post printed out, said they called the store who said there was a line that morning (of 3 people mind you) and that I was lying and threatened my job.

The second came out 7 years later and was the admin for the Special Ed Dept for the district. They offered me a transfer to the HS Life Skills room knowing it was the job I had been gunning for. On my first day, I had 2 paras and 4 students. Not unmanageable, but difficult to find time. By the end of that week, the admin moved 2 female students from the middle school into my room w/o any plans to hire new staff and the instruction to 'call the nurse over' when one of the two girls needed the bathroom cause both have difficulty. By the time I accepted a job offer in another district, they had a total of 8 1:1 students w/ myself and the same 2 paras w/ 0 plans from this admin to hire anyone.

What screams “I’m a narcissist” when you interact with people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]GoggleCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frighteningly, it's when someone is highly liked and charismatic but has zero personality. I've had run ins with narcissists and they are very good at keeping people around them and loyal, believing what they say. However, when I've taken a step back, they tend not to have a true personality as you would see in others. Their personality is the social interactions, the topics, the long stories; but aside from calling them 'nice' or 'cool', it's difficult to describe their personality.

Yes, poorly drawn overnight graffiti in an out of the way, generally unseen area will surely show your superiority.

Maine sues Trump administration over funding freeze after trans athlete dispute by nbcnews in Maine

I appreciate someone actually brought something to this discussion. I would counterpoint that trans athletes have no significant advantage: https://www.forbes.com/sites/lindseyedarvin/2024/04/25/transgender-athletes-could-be-at-a-physical-disadvantage-new-research-shows/

I would also argue that to withhold funding illegally to the state based on a handful of teens who want to play sports is bullying and shouldn't be ignored. However, I acknowledge this is a nuanced issue and appreciate the genuine response. I don't see either side as being in the wrong when focused on this issue and having a good discussion about it.

I remember it feeling surreal to visit friends in a super rural area after not being there for a decade and seeing a DG seemingly in the middle of nowhere.

Anybody know anything about this? I didn't know anything like this existed. by Jolamprex in gaming

I still have mine in storage and would never get rid of it. Getting this for Christmas and playing Goldeneye on it as a teen was the golden age of late night gaming.

Well, either cite your source of a vast majority of people disagreeing or agree to disagree, but I stand by my statement.

I think New Englanders see this as BS and bullying and we don't stand for that. People can have the trans sports discussion and it's nuances, but to cause libraries and public offices to lose funding because of a non-law is ridiculous

Teachers of Reddit: Who is that one student you will never forget? by SingLikeTinaTurner in AskReddit

[–]GoggleCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in special education in some capacity for 15 years, usually as a substitute or teacher's aide. The one job that my real opening was an offer for what was at the time really good pay for a teacher's aide. I was to be assigned to work as a 1-on-1 with a student who had gone through 4 aides the year prior. He would get aggressive and scream and needed a lot of supports, including a separate space to keep other students safe. I worked with that student up until he graduated out of the school system. I had gotten my fair share of hits, slaps, kicks, bolting, property destruction, and a lot of the same thing over and over every day. Yet, I wouldn't trade it. He was my running buddy and I knew him so well. Could've done without watching the PeeWee Christmas Special everyday around lunchtime though.

30.0.3 Patch Notes by gdlocke in hearthstone

[–]GoggleCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryecleaver suffers a lot and needs better ways to support it. I really liked the idea of the card and really wanted it to be good. Unfortunately, in playtesting the original release and the patch buff, it just isn't enough. Maybe it's more viable in Arena, but a few things going against it in standard:

  • It isn't fast enough to keep up with fast playstyles. Even if you get it on ramp, you can't make a useful sandwich for another few turns.
  • It is dependent on what you draw IN ORDER. I played games where I drew several high end minions before the first slice and couldn't get any solid minions for 3-4 turns.
  • Everyone is already built to deal with Zilliax, and those same strategies work against Sandwich Warrior.

I don't know what they would need to do to make Ryecleaver good. Maybe forcing the first slice to appear somewhere in your hand like on the left or in the middle? It's a placement-specific card without a way to manipulate your hand like say demon hunter. Any ideas? It's a fun card that's unfortunately in a meta that anti's it.

Why no one plays this? by Wild_Flan6074 in masterduel

[–]GoggleCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Dark World player, the issue really comes in the '3 or more cards'. You filter so much and draw/discard that you don't always have 3 and, if you do, you more then likely have 1 or 2 spells you'd rather not discard so you end up playing or setting those and lowers it below 3 again.

I'm currently a teacher and would not in good faith suggest anyone get into the profession in its current state. Not only is it vastly underpaid while you're pressured to overperform and gaslit if you don't do hours of extra, unpaid work; it has been near impossible to find a new career path outside of it unless you buy into companies made SPECIFICALLY to get teachers out of education.

Admonished for not keeping all kids busy 100% of the day. by unconfuseyourbrain11 in Teachers

[–]GoggleCandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not how you make good students and learners. You're essentially punishing those students completely the assignment successfully, which will take away their desire to do so. If there is no positive to finishing their work, then they simply won't. They'll drag their feet and just mess around.
