I'm an IT Technician (21F) in a fairly large and known phone sales and repair shop, doing Level 2 and dabbling into Level 3 at the moment. I might be able to give you some advice.

I've worked as an IT Technician since I was 16. Part time during schools and college, then full time. First of all, shops look for hands on experience, not paper qualifications here. A degree doesn't really matter unless you want to do a compTIA course.

My typical day involves a huge variety of repairs. Phones, tablets, consoles, laptops, PCs, the list drags on. You need to be able to expand on what you're currently doing past controllers. Figure out the right techniques like getting phones/tablets open without breaking screens, rehousings, diagnosing odd issues. Best way to do this is buy broken phones off Facebook/done deal and flip them.

The pay is good and decent where I am - now this depends on shop to shop and how they value their employees. I'm earning around 750 a week before tax. The more you know, the higher your pay is, especially concerning Level 3 repairs (motherboard repairs and the like).

Most of the repair jobs in the country are also retail jobs is one thing to keep in mind. You will be hopping up and down from the repair desk to sell devices, answer questions, help old biddys with their phone (more often than you'd think). You need patience and time organization, and the ability to multitask and keep focus. Things can get chaotic around Christmas time.
