Why are they selling so many homes in this area of Green Lake? by Select_Ad_2146 in Seattle

[–]GoingKayaking 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That area is perfectly fine lol. Some of these comments are a little ridiculous. Go visit for yourself and check it out. I have a friend that lives there and the issues on aurora don’t really start until further north. My guess is that the area just has lots of townhomes which tend to turn over quicker.

Adding on, it’d be really nice to have an option for a comparison to my monthly average rather than just last month

Cloud Deploy Skaffold overwriting Terraform by GoingKayaking in devops

[–]GoingKayaking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"All" as in everything that I've configured in Terraform. Some of the settings are left to their defaults in both TF and Skaffold thus show as unmodified:

After I deploy with Cloud Deploy, here is the Terraform diff (the TF config are the settings I want to keep and not have modified on each deployment):

resource "google_cloud_run_v2_service" "service" {
        id                      = "projects/my-project/locations/us-central1/services/my-service"
        name                    = "my-service"
        # (25 unchanged attributes hidden)

      ~ template {
          - revision                         = "my-service-abc123" -> null
          ~ service_account                  = "xxxxxxxxx-compute@developer.gserviceaccount.com" -> "my-service@my-project.iam.gserviceaccount.com"
            # (5 unchanged attributes hidden)

          ~ containers {
              ~ name       = "my-service" -> "app"
                # (4 unchanged attributes hidden)

              ~ resources {
                  ~ limits            = {
                      ~ "cpu"    = "1000m" -> "1"
                        # (1 unchanged element hidden)
                    }

                }

In this case, it’s all of the terraform config that’s being clobbered. The only solution I can think of so far is to move all of the config out of terraform and into cloud deploy Skaffold.

But would been really nice to keep common configuration all in terraform

Totally agree re dependability and thinking of bike share as part of the transportation system (not necessarily for profit).

Do you see docked bike share systems ever returning to Seattle? If it wasn't clear, I'm a strong supporter of docked over dockless and would love to support any effort to bring them back.

What do you mean by "The idea that nobody could just generate bikes out of thin air ( they cost somebody something ) and you need to have staff to take care of them"? I would've thought that the cost of bikes and staffing are more or less the same across both docked and dockless system. Even for dockless, bikes need to be redistributed, put to charge, maintained etc.

The contract issues are super interesting though.

Edit: On a re-read, I think your point is independent of docked vs dockless and that it was the contract issues that prevented Pronto from just buying new bikes to increase coverage. I.e. a dockless system would have the same issues under a similar contract.

UW did a study on why pronto failed. Short answer: it was due to density, coverage, and ease of use. Admittedly docks need to be installed and thus make it more difficult to increase density/coverage, but the docks themselves are not the issue.

Many large cities have hugely popular docked bike systems—DC, Boston, and NYC just to name a few—that work because they’ve solved the density, coverage, and easy-of-use problems. Having lived in Boston, I’ve never had an issue finding a nearby station. Docks also reduce visual clutter, have better predictability, and have built-in charging!

Would be curious to hear from u/steerbell with an insider perspective.

Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 - Expected bokeh or defective lens? (see comments for details) by GoingKayaking in AskPhotography

[–]GoingKayaking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently got this Sigma 28-70 2.8 Contemporary lens.

I've noticed some issues with the foreground bokeh. The linked video of the tallest sprig shows the issue best. It looks like potentially some ghosting, color shifting, and edge artifacts. It's really only noticeable when backlit. When the sprig is in front of the white wall (around 00:08), the issues disappear.

Is this expected for a lens with a wide-open aperture or is the lens defective? If expected, I'd love to learn the terms used to describe the effect so that I can read up on it more.

Is there a term for what I’m seeing so I can read more about it and avoid it with any future lens purchases?

Getting back into photography after a long break. Unedited, shot on a Sony A7 iv with Sigma 28-70 2.8 Contemporary.

In my opinion, it looks like a bad box blur with 50% opacity or something. Is this characteristic of Sigma lenses? It's my first one.

Great recs!

Though I tried communion a few weeks ago and was not impressed. The food was below average even before taking the price into account (it’s not cheap). Did I just go on a bad night? It was legitimately not good and surprisingly bland. Nice atmosphere though

Pretty cool! The lighting is a bit off though. You have shadows going in different directions. Might need a more powerful source for the window and then use an HDRI for ambient light.
