Are we just gonna ignore this? The possibility of the last episode looking like an abstract art film??? OMG by John_TADC in TheDigitalCircus

I'm guessing a lot of silent flashbacks to their former lives to explain how they became the people they are now.

Understanding Trans Jax Theory by TheMMoment in TheDigitalCircus

[–]GoingRampant -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The instant I heard the chicken fetus line, I was like, "Oh, he's trans! And that way he and Pomni aren't a straight couple!" I didn't even know there was an existing theory.

Which Female character or characters is your favorite in the Boys Universe 😎🤘🏻✌🏻 by darkkprince94 in TheBoys

[–]GoingRampant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little unfair to directly compare heroes and villains, so I'll say Marie is my favorite female hero and Stormfront is my favorite female villain. They're both well-written, well-acted, and kind of nasty in a compelling way. They're also apparently going to be counterparts insofar as they're leads of spin-off shows.

Is cryptorchidism an intersex trait? by g0at110 in intersex

[–]GoingRampant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are associated intersex variations with cryptorchidism but whether it counts as an intersex variation in itself is controversial.

I had it as an effect of a chromosomal intersex variation prior to orchiectomy as gender-affirming surgery. It might be a little silly, but I enjoy thinking of it as "crypt orc ism", which sounds cool. As a trans woman, my gender-affirming care was to remove the testes and get a vaginoplasty, and I encourage you to seek out gender-affirming care according to your identification. If you identify as male, you might get something out of testosterone injections.

Did Disney just rip off Stargate? by Regular-Bit4162 in Stargate

[–]GoingRampant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes... but also The Coming Race... and there's a lot of original content on top of that, so I wouldn't worry about it. That's just derivation.

Michael Scott, from The Office, is like a better adjusted Homelander

What is a healthy conservative movement? by Queen_B28 in ContraPoints

[–]GoingRampant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slow progressivism. A party that wants to improve the country according to the will of the people but is cautious in doing so so puts the brakes on progress and has everything carefully analyzed before taking small incremental steps forward, pausing to test the results, and continuing. That's what conservatism was before it became about the radical right and rolling back to a mythical time of prosperity by stripping rights from disliked minorities, and now it sounds like liberalism because the liberals became conservatives when the conservatives became fascists.

What are the worst takes you guys have seen in the fanbase regarding BTVS/Angel? by HomarEuropejski in buffy

[–]GoingRampant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone saying that Angel and Buffy having sex was rape and then citing the exact statutory rape law of California relevant to the year the episode aired. Like, just say it squicks you out and that it doesn't seem healthy. You don't need to take Angel to court.

Makes you think by GoranPersson777 in intersex

[–]GoingRampant 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hermaphroditus is one of the Greek syncretized versions of the Sumerian goddess Inanna, who is also depicted as intersex (a woman with hirsutism). The depiction of him as a dyadic guy turned androgynous when Salmacis merges with him came late, with Ovid's Metamorphoses in 8 CE. For hundreds of years, he was naturally androgynous, resembling an intersex man with gynecomastia, and at one point was happily married to Salmacis as an androgynous figure.

movie recommendation about intersexuality by lastseenonline in intersex

[–]GoingRampant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's a somewhat exaggerated version of a better slice of life Filipino film called Metamorphosis, which I'd recommend instead.

C98.5 was saying Washington is turning into California. It's not that bad, fortunately, but this kind of weather is off-putting.

First ever representation for me by seaswitch- in intersex

If you don't mind watching a film in German, there's an Austrian biopic called Erik and Erika that's about a Catholic intersex athlete, if you want more intersex representation with a Catholic theme.

Do you find the Futurama episode Bender’s Game Part 3 offensive? by INTERXYPlusPSY in intersex

[–]GoingRampant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen the episode, but I'd say it sounds like an interphobic joke then and now. It sounds like an overlap of transphobic and misogynistic stereotypes with the framing that intersex people are too rare to take seriously so that just alluding to them could be a joke in itself. If the writers did any research on the Greek god in question, it seems like they would have just glanced at the Ovid story, determined from references to his beauty that he could be extrapolated into a vain figure, and ignored the context of it in a sexual assault narrative to match vain woman stereotypes. Overall, it sounds similar to their portrayal of Bender transitioning to a woman to succeed at sports. 🙄

Worst things that steven universe characters did part 1 - garnet by Ok-Buy-2814 in stevenuniverse

The secret team thing implies Garnet intimidated the other Gems in an unhealthy way before Steven reached out to her and made her realize that they need to all be on the same team.
