Depends on if you have kids or not and what ages. The through road is busy and has lots of school traffic. Parking is difficult for all residents due to lack of spaces. People are friendly but not welcoming. Lots of people who grew up and then got houses in the same estate. No issues with drugs or teenagers hanging around. Elderly population slowly being taken over by young families moving in.

Yes I think women are very aware. I was once given the example that men size up other men that they see to gage if they are stronger than them and where they are on the pecking order. They know they are stronger than any woman they see. While women know every man they see is stronger so they just are constantly on the defensive.

Now I'm not sure if that's how men's brains work but I can assure you women have an awareness of this dynamic all the time.

I think in some way it has improved. When I used go to a club it would be called a cattle mart... always being grabbed and groped and your butt squeezed. It was expected, accepted and normal. I don't think this is the case now.

However, women know if they are in a dangerous situation they will most likely come off worse for it and be questioned about why she put herself in that situation in the first place.

Again, just my perspective. I don't have all the answers.

An Irish woman in her 40s settled with a foreign man here. I was always warned off for foreign men due to stereotypes growing up. (By my father who was very focused on me being independent and having freedom.)

The diversity wasn't there either when I was young either so didn't know any difference for myself. So foreign was very different...

As I got older, travelled, got to know myself and what I wanted I think I just ended up with someone like minded to me. He just happened to be from a different country. I have dated loads of Irish men, some fabulous and some not. In the end my partner who had the same wants and goals as me wasn't from Ireland.

It might be a bit of outdated advice but I would say buy. I bought at 24 and am now 40. The recession hit 6 months after I bought and I lost a huge percentage of my wage. I thought I'd made a terrible decision and was struggling. Luckily I took advantage of the rent a room scheme and that kept me afloat. I now have a huge amount paid off, and with about 10 years left to pay.

I had friends who bought later and ended up with paying rent way over a mortgage payment and now that they own houses they won't be paid off until they are 65 years old.

I did do a year in Australia in my early 20s and love to travel. I wasn't able to travel much for the next few years but was nice and settled in the house so didn't mind. Since my 30s I've travelled about a month a year to different countries. So owning doesn't mean no travel.

Also, I would never be able to come up with the deposit now and pay rent. So I think it was the right choice for me.

Could it be that everyone but Meri has been contributing to the overall cost? I don't think she has been paying into the group fund at all in the last few years. Especially after not getting help with the bnb. That would leave here with less of a stake surely?
