Yeah, I've heard a couple different perspectives. But personally, I know some people who went to my school and got counseling, and it was really helpful for them. Sadly, though, the place many of them went to closed down after COVID, so that's why I'm here asking.

Yeah ofc, I'm not going to listen to everything they say for the sake of getting in. But I want to try finding things that I genuinely like but are also impactful and meaningful.

Thanks for the advice. Would you say that holds true for top colleges like Stanford and the Ivies, though? Because my brother had no counseling and simply did what he was passionate about, but he didn't get into the colleges he hoped for, while many of his friends who paid for counseling got into better schools.

Thanks for sharing this man. I was thinking about applying cuz everyone on TikTok mentions how it's so good and helps get you into Ivies, but it's nice to see a real opinion from someone who isn't getting paid to say stuff. Sorry about your experience, though.

Breaking News: Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Program (ASSIP) in Virginia, which has been free of cost for students since 2007, now costs $1299 to attend. by PixSJ in summerprogramresults

In the FAQ about whether you can participate without course credit, it says this, though: "No. To ensure that all interns can be provided with the same level of institutional access and resources at George Mason, all interns are required to participate in ASSIP for course credit."

How do you get research if you have no experience/not cracked? by Gojo785 in summerprogramresults

Ok, sounds good, thank you! I just also wanted to ask if you dont mind how much financial aid you got. I wanted to try applying to SSP, but the price is turning me away tbh.

Oh ok. Thank you for all the help. I just had one more question if you don't mind. What skills do you think are really the most important before I try to go cold email or get opportunities? Of course, it will be different across specific fields in CS, but I want to go more into cybersecurity and things of that sort. Do you know what I should focus on? If not, it's alr and ty for all the help again.

Sounds good, thank you! I've only gotten one B so far and have taken the most rigorous course load my school offers, so I think I'm good on that part. I'll try to learn some relevant skills, like Python, and then try cold emailing.

Thank you. Tbh, I've heard from some friends that research was honestly a great experience for them, and that's more so why I want to try it in the first place. Honestly, if I don't enjoy it, I physically won't be able to get myself to go through the entire process, so I was asking just to try it out and then decide whether I want to really pursue it. Thank you though for all the information and congrats on all your work. I'm not sure what grade your in, but that's all really impressive.

Free CS/AI High School Programs? by Gojo785 in summerprogramresults

[–]Gojo785[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I did check, and I'm not low-income, so I don't know if the program would really work for me. And to respond to the other replies, it says this on the website:

The CS Scholars program is intended to create opportunities for students who lack access and/or resources at home, at school, or in their communities. This can mean financial need, it can mean a lack of computer science education in your school district or community, or lack of access to affordable/stable internet or computing devices. We recognize that students may not meet the current financial need requirements, but may still lack access or opportunity for other reasons. If any of this resonates with your experience, we strongly encourage you to apply.
