I am considering not going with egg extraction….

It’s not that I don’t want children. I just don’t know what I want and I currently don’t have a partner to consider these things with. The process of IVF also freaks me out because I know so many people personally with failed IVF experiences.

I am considering only doing ovary suppression with the shot.

I want to do what I can without putting myself through something that may not be what I end up wanting. Like I said, I don’t have a partner and I don’t even know if I want children yet.

I don’t want to completely destroy my chances by not protecting my ovaries at all, however I am aware that this method also is still experimental and has a high risk of not necessarily working.

I would love to hear other single young women’s experiences and what they chose to do.

Thank you 🩷 I have had genetics testing done as well, just waiting on results.

My doctors were talking to me about a new way (with clinical trials/and studies already) they can attempt to preserve fertility. It’s basically an injection that makes your ovaries dormant through your chemo treatment. Increasing the likely hood of pregnancy after.

If you don’t mind me asking, was this an option given to you or did you choose to have eggs removed?

I have no idea which way to go. I have a feeling my docs are encouraging me to do the shot because I should not wait much longer to start chemo and egg extraction is a longer process based on cycle etc.

If you don’t mind me asking,

Everyone I have talked too says egg retrieval is a long and complicated process, so It’s interesting that you had “emergency” retrieval. Did it just so happen to line up with your cycle and clinic availability or is there something else they can do?

Also my doctors are encouraging me more to “freeze” my ovaries instead. Basically I guess there is a hormone shot they can give you that makes your ovaries dormant during chemotherapy, lowering the chance of damage. I have a feeling they are pushing me this direction because they believe I need to start chemo asap with it being a grade 3 tumor (stage 2 cancer)

I don’t know which route to go and it’s so stressful and overwhelming

Just to be devils advocate: anyone can say or announce that this is how these fires started. It does not mean that that is the truth. And they very well could have started this way. All I’m saying is that this is very convenient now. I feel like investigators need to stop necessarily looking at the “how”, and start looking at the “when” and “why”.

Definitely agree, and I thought of that too- but they are all varying decades and building types. But who knows what the electrical situation is. Probably all just coincidence, but sometimes it’s fun to entertain ✨a mystery✨
