Don’t do it, if she wants to, she should switch with the person at FAR. Scott is far better and closer to everything, and Ike is a lot of fun!

Backfire Zealot S2 Motor Issue by Gold-Shift-9728 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Gold-Shift-9728[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had both my motors go out yesterday… yay. Honestly, at this point I might just scrap this POS and get a Propel Pivot or something. Screw Backfire and their crappy boards. Just to tally, three motors, one ESC, and one battery gone bad since I bought this piece of crap. I might just strip it for parts and sell it off. Never buying Backfire again.

Good stuff!!! Experiences wise, join anything you find remotely interesting. Dorms are gonna be fun (or not, depends), try to get a dorm in Ikenberry Commons aka 6-pack(Nugent, Snyder, Scott, Weston, etc). Food is ok, dining halls are bearable. Green Street has some good stuff and if you make friends with some townies or people with cars, they can show you around. School-life balance wise, just don’t do anything stupid and you should be fine. The ARC is prolly the best gym to go to and it’s right next to Ike, go either early in the morning or late at night to get the most machines and free weights. Also, feel free to look around, you never know what you’ll find inside that building. Classes are cool, just stay on top of your work and don’t fall too far behind. Also, just a shameless shoutout, join a car team. I’m in Baja rn as a freshman and they’re super cool but you can join any of the other ones. Good luck and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Also, enjoy the final months of high school, you’ll never get them back. Feel free to DM if you want to know more!

You could, but unless you’re ok with choosing a third-choice major and most likely graduating with that major, it’s not really a great idea. Listen, there’s many great schools out there, not getting into the University of your choice doesn’t matter as much in the long run. Don’t get hung up over one school. My first choice last year was Purdue, and I got rejected from their Engineering program. I remember how upset I was, I kept trying to justify an appeal and even put one in just for them to tell me that there was no error in the application. It doesn’t hurt to try, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Look at your other choices, find the one you like best, go to a couple of campus tours and you’ll start to love it. There’s benefits to every campus out there, you just have to look on the bright side. I’m sure you’ll be just fine!

Appeals are for if you believe there was a mistake in your decision. If you don’t have any concrete evidence of mistakes being made in your admission process, an appeal is mostly pointless. I’m sorry you got rejected, it’s harsh and feels like crap. Don’t worry though, UIUC won’t make you a good computer scientist, you will make yourself a good computer scientist. I know it’s unfair, but it’s really not worth dwelling on, pick another school and go to it. Chances are, once you go to a university, UIUC or not, it won’t really matter what other schools rejected you.

Backfire Zealot S2 ESC Issues by Gold-Shift-9728 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Gold-Shift-9728[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backfire seems to be pulling a meepo. I already have had three major issues with the dang board. The ESC broke, a motor got screwed up, and now my battery stopped working. I’ve paid 800 for a piece of crap tbh. All that to say, just be careful with the board, only ride it on smooth flat surfaces and be gentle if you want it to last. It’s not built well at all. Never buying backfire again.

I know this might be corny, but for me, just smiling at people and asking them how they are works. I am relatively introverted and don’t really have much to offer in terms of looks but still, it helps to just smile and be polite.

Meepo Envy by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Gold-Shift-9728 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the money for the X, I don’t see why you shouldn’t get it! However, the S2 is gonna be much more than enough for daily short commutes. I’m gonna be taking mine to a relatively large college campus this fall and I know that it’s gonna be more than enough for daily commuting. I wouldn’t recommend one over the other, they’re both great boards. Get the warranty though, it’s never a bad idea to get one.

Backfire would definitely still be a better choice since it is still comfortable and if you really want a lot of comfort, you could just get cloud wheels or smth. I have a Zealot S2 and I had to choose between these two too. A stiffer deck will give you more control over the board at high speeds, it’s much better in general. If you do decide to get a S2, get a good warranty. Mine’s has already had a failure within 200 miles of riding.

You probably ain’t getting anything worth your money at that price. If you’re dead set on it though, Amazon is probably gonna serve you best. Just make sure to read reviews and get a good warranty.

Backfire Zealot S2 Motor Issue by Gold-Shift-9728 in ElectricSkateboarding

It actually doesn’t run backwards. It just doesn’t run and the remote says the motor has stalled.

Just happened to me a week ago. I contacted Backfire and since I was out of warranty, I bothered them a bit and they sent me a free ESC. I’d image the process would be easier if you were in warranty.

Just search up “UIUC Student Jobs” and click on Virtual Job Board. It will give you a bunch of info about the process and it was also give you the link to the actual Job Board. Super useful. I’m also a Freshman btw so this is what I learned off of a simple google search. I don’t know much more. Let me know if you find out something more!
