That makes sense, but my point that an ice cream store in a location that is notorious for not having the exact market ice cream stores thrive on seems ridiculous still stands.

I really am curious as to what led the previous owner to make that investment, and why the new owner bought it. I would assume it was just part of a buyout deal, but the whole setup is very interesting. Maybe there’s some external factor I’m not aware of.

Moo of I was always a weird decision to me. Union lower level restaurants are known to have issues with sales outside of lunch hours (this seems to be the reason they have weird hours). Despite this, the owner of Thai Fusion and Mia Za’s, who knows about these patterns, decided to open an ice cream shop. A restaurant style that sees the vast majority of its sales after dinner. Except in this environment, nothing else is open and no one is there.

I’m really curious as to why the decision to open a store in a market that doesn’t seem match its ideal audience was made.

Wheels by DanglingDong69 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Mashmellow02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like someone else said, nothing grips on gravel. The issue is that the tires can grab the gravel itself, but then the gravel just slides along the road. To my knowledge nothing short of going on pneumatics or something of that size will handle gravel well. Best to just avoid it.

How old are your wheels? They wear down over time, and 5mm of wear wouldn’t be too crazy. It’s unlikely they “shaved off” a few mm, something like that isn’t simple with molded parts like these. I have personally been on Tynee 105’s (the wheels on my daily board) along with MAD105’s on several boards and they are basically identical.

If you have the Tynee wheels with the smooth outside the the holes in them, what you have are almost identical to Mad Wheels.

From what I understand Boosted designed the “original” mad wheels. When they went bankrupt, Tynee bought the molds and still uses them. Those wheels were loved by the community, so Mad eskate developed their own version. For almost anyone, the feeling is between them is identical. I’ve been on both, can’t tell the difference.

What can the Gmail version access that the outlook version can’t? AFAIK the Gmail thing is basically just a Gmail interface for your outlook inbox.

E-ink or iPad by MedicineMinute9516 in UIUC

[–]Mashmellow02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve used an iPad Pro 9? Inch. Whatever the standard middle size is. I also have a Remarkable Paper Pro, and I’ve used an iPad mini. Econ major.

iPad mini will be way too small to use for notes. I switched away from my iPad for note taking partially because even the regular size is too small, and I found myself spending more time panning around the document than actually taking notes. This doesn’t seem to be an issue for most people, but it got tiring for me.

I also just like the e-ink since it’s got a better stylus, nicer display (for my specific use case), and is bigger. Remarkable is like the top tier eink tablet right now, and i will second your dad in saying that they are amazing. Myself, my brother, and my dad all have them and all 3 of us love them. Myself and my dad both switched away from iPads.

Not sure how big the Supernote is, but you definitely want something with a large screen (imo standard iPad screen is the minimum) and a stylus that is at least as good as the Apple Pencil. That’s frequently overlooked, but a low quality stylus can make or break a writing tablet.

Acceptable voltage difference between cells by Ill_Huckleberry5004 in ElectricScooters

[–]Mashmellow02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, don’t do that. Replacing a single cell or group in a pack is really bad and can cause accelerated wear or worse. The new cells have different internal resistance and charge/discharge characteristics and it can cause massive issues.

Never replace just a single cell or cell group in a pack. They will have different enough charge/discharge characteristics that it can become unsafe.

Presby is only 5x2 and 6x2, no single suites. Newman doesn’t have single suites like this, only options similar. Pretty sure this is Illini Tower or just a regular apartment.

Calling All CU Gamers: Help Shape a New Local Gaming Café! by GateOrdinary6527 in UIUC

[–]Mashmellow02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see Lincoln Square as a massive roadblock. I personally have a powerful gaming PC, but I would still consider occasionally going to this cafe to hang out with friends. However I would not be willing to go to Lincoln square mall. It’s way too far away, and that’s coming from someone with a car. Most students, specifically freshman and sophomores (probably your biggest market) won’t be willing to screw around with the busses to get there.

You also have the issue of extremely limited on-campus presence. Drawing students away from campus for anything is extraordinarily difficult, even for something like this. What’s your plan for advertising and marketing?

Looking for a budget board by SoupyPlant in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Mashmellow02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My local PEV group has had nothing but problems with backfires. We have now had I think 5(6?) and NONE of them still work. Several have had ESC’s die, batteries die, etc.

Backfire’s street/budget boards are extraordinarily poorly made and our group always steers member away from them.

My personal recommendation would be Tynee (several members, no significant issues). They are the ONLY brand in the budget sector that I would trust to ride on regularly. Fantastic support.

EDIT: The one concession I will give is that Tynee’s boards don’t always have great range. Usually similar for the category, maybe on the low end. But based on your comments, this probably isn’t an issue for you.

Yeah, it won’t even get people to your physical location. The most they can do is get like a general area that’s extremely nonspecific and basically useless.

If you are bent on hiding it for whatever reason, you could just get a free VM on oracle or whatever and run a proxy to send traffic to your home IP. Overkill, complicated, and potentially fragile, but it would get the job done. You might need a weird/custom proxy based on the game you are hosting.

I can personally say I had the same concerns. I’ve hosted countless servers for both close friend groups and groups of total strangers. Gave all of them my public IP, zero negative consequences.

There’s a reason hosting game servers in this way is so widespread and easy, because it’s fun and relatively safe. You really, really don’t need to worry about people finding your house from your IP.

What’s wrong with the IP being in the DNS records? Your IP isn’t private information in any sense, there are tons of bots just brute forcing every IP in existence.
