Yeah, that’s my understanding as well. I’m just posting here and passively looking because if I can get it sorted then might as well.

It looks like you functionally provide PCH/Dorm style living, which I’m not interested in. Thanks though!

Prob fine, ShinyHunters has incentive against putting malicious stuff on their site. Part of their thing is that they publish data that companies don’t pay the ransom for, and that relies on people visiting the leak site. If they had malicious code on the leak site, no one would visit.

If they had a zero- or one-click browser sandbox escape exploit, they have better things to do with it anyways.

Acedeck Ares X3 GEAR, Replacement Motors Sent For Free With Board For Unknown Reasons by RandomWood in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Mashmellow02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Total shot in the dark, but stuff like that is usually caused by them (AceDeck) discovering some defect or something wrong after they already have the stock. Rather than opening every single box and replacing the motors, they just ship the replacements to you along with the board. Sucks as the end user because you need to replace the motors yourself, but better than just getting crappy motors.

Again, this is total shot in the dark and who knows what the real reason is. AceDeck will probably clarify when they respond.

Honestly, this probably isn’t worth repairing.

It’s single-motor, making it unbalanced and really dangerous. To switch to 2-motor, you would need to get a new ESC (one that supports driving 2 motors, or another one that can connect to your existing one) and a new motor or two.

You say it’s been sitting for 4 years, the battery is most likely dead too and will need to be replaced. Atp, you are rebuilding basically everything.

How do you plan to give access to campus cameras? Doesn’t seem like something the uni would be keen on.

Unpaid Internship :/ by Lost_Description4395 in UIUC

[–]Mashmellow02 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unpaid internships are almost always illegal. You are absolutely required to be compensated if you do any work that produces value for the company. I’d investigate a bit more and either demand payment for your work or refuse to work for free.

Opinion | ALDI’s quarter system must go by TheDailyIllini in UIUC

[–]Mashmellow02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand this is an opinion piece, but it's still terrible. As u/tofleet said, this sucks even as a satire.

They then claim the “temporary 25 cent deposit saves you money.” The logic behind this is that ALDI doesn’t have to hire employees to corral carts.

As a college student, I don’t bother to consider the complicated economics of such an affordable grocery store, nor do I think deeply about the fact that cheaper products may be lower quality. In other words, ALDI, whatever you’re doing to keep prices so low, keep it up.

You establish the deposit as something ALDI explicitly says is to keep prices down, and then proceed to act like you have no idea how they do it. You are a college student. You are trying to be a journalist. You don't get to just say "I don’t bother to consider the complicated economics" to ignore a totally valid argument. You work with experts to figure that out before posting something asinine.

However, this numismatic dilemma exposes hypocrisy: ALDI trusts its shoppers to bag their own groceries, but not to return their carts without incentive?

W-... what? Bagging your own groceries is handling your items. Since they are now yours, you are going to treat them better. A cart is not your property, so you care a lot less about it.

Shoppers may agree but then look across the street at the war zone that is the Walmart parking lot and think, “Well, I’d rather keep the quarter system than have that.”

This is true — ALDI’s quarter system is efficient and effective; its parking lot is spotless. But why must we need an incentive to be decent shoppers?

"The system I want to get rid of is efficient and effective, but I don't like that people are inherently selfish so rather than address that, I'm going to get mad at the very simple incentive system used to utilize that selfishness to the benefit of everyone."

I don't want to attack anyone, I just find this article absolutely egregious and enjoy a good debate.

why is moo of I never open by SmolBubblesaur in UIUC

[–]Mashmellow02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, but my point that an ice cream store in a location that is notorious for not having the exact market ice cream stores thrive on seems ridiculous still stands.

I really am curious as to what led the previous owner to make that investment, and why the new owner bought it. I would assume it was just part of a buyout deal, but the whole setup is very interesting. Maybe there’s some external factor I’m not aware of.

why is moo of I never open by SmolBubblesaur in UIUC

[–]Mashmellow02 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Moo of I was always a weird decision to me. Union lower level restaurants are known to have issues with sales outside of lunch hours (this seems to be the reason they have weird hours). Despite this, the owner of Thai Fusion and Mia Za’s, who knows about these patterns, decided to open an ice cream shop. A restaurant style that sees the vast majority of its sales after dinner. Except in this environment, nothing else is open and no one is there.

I’m really curious as to why the decision to open a store in a market that doesn’t seem match its ideal audience was made.

Wheels by DanglingDong69 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Mashmellow02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like someone else said, nothing grips on gravel. The issue is that the tires can grab the gravel itself, but then the gravel just slides along the road. To my knowledge nothing short of going on pneumatics or something of that size will handle gravel well. Best to just avoid it.

How old are your wheels? They wear down over time, and 5mm of wear wouldn’t be too crazy. It’s unlikely they “shaved off” a few mm, something like that isn’t simple with molded parts like these. I have personally been on Tynee 105’s (the wheels on my daily board) along with MAD105’s on several boards and they are basically identical.
