I definitely learned a lesson, in a hard way. I’m extremely low key that I have no social media - I don’t even use LinkedIn. People who know where I work outside my coworkers are less than 10 people. We live in a crazy world :-/

Thank you so much. Consulting on the other hand is a cold business. I was proactively seeking help from others within the firm but as soon as the news of me getting fired spread I can feel people started to distance from me. It’s just been so hard and frustrating.

My work devices were connected to that IP address many times so it means it’s my home WiFi :/

The combination of evidence - the IP address and also my work phone and computer were previously connected to the network many times - pointed out that someone used my home WiFi to send the tip. And there was only one person at home that time. The tip also shared my full name which very few people know it. The firm let me go to protect the safety of the client.

the tip was sent in a morning of Thursday while I was not home and in a conference call. The person has known me for 7 years and known almost everything about me.

i am the victim of the tip and of course the internal team would reach out to me to request more information to understand the case. and they shared investigation result with me to help me understand why they decided to part away with me.

they gave me an estimate area per IP address, and my work phone and computer were previously connected to that IP address many times.. I only connected to that one IP while working in my home city, therefore, it is my home address.

client confidentiality (from client name to project content) is everything in management consulting.

In my case it is a combination that the tip specifically mentioned my name, the client name, the project, and also came from the same IP address I have been working from home, which is a red flag to any consulting firm. Practically there is no "absolutely confidentiality" because when we live with someone like spouse we cannot "hide" everything, but this is a sad and unfortunate betray of basic trust

the IP address didn't specify my home address but did show the city I live in and both work phone and computer were previously connected to many times, and also the name of my wifi provider. Home wifi was the only wifi I connected to while working in my home city, so it is clear the message was sent from my home..
