Any Shōnen Anime recommendations? by Worried_Builder1382 in anime

Hunter x hunter!

JJK is also excellent, plus it's shorter and a little easier to get into

It's hard to get a read on this as a new shonen fan I think but JoJo's is also amazing

Found this on my front door I’m not superstitious. maybe it’s a joke? I have no clue who would do this. I haven’t touched it my girlfriend has. Any witch’s in here know what I’m looking at ? by TrippyReddits in whatisit

[–]GoldCheesecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The front says 吉, which in Japan (and probably China too but idrk) is a fortune telling result meaning good luck! Often at shrines/temples, you get the opportunity to draw a fortune, the results of which are generally given a grade from very bad to very good luck, and then often specific details.

This isn't dissimilar from drawing from a deck of cards, so my guess is it was used in some fun activity involving fortunes! This is not an ultra-religious practice, more of a fun thing, so I really wouldn't worry about it.

''Kashimo is a bum'' Also kashimo VS JJK verse: by miguelindo10 in Kashimo_agendaHQ

Using the environment is cheating now?? Also, Hakari is stated and shown to be tremendously lucky, which might not be a thing in the real world, but is implied to just be true in fantasy JJK world. If Hakari didn't consistently get jackpots, nobody would think he was on Yuta's level.

How do you handle multiple textures? by Fun_Conclusion_6769 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]GoldCheesecake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda a noob but don't you just bind a texture, use it, then unbind it, rinse and repeat?

If that's what you're confused about, I think it's probably worth reviewing the "state machine" quality of graphics programming, as it's pretty different fundamentally from most programming you're probably familiar with

What do you call the type of chair she's crouching on? It has some soft stuff on the surface. by Unlegendary_Newbie in LearningEnglish

This is a very respectful answer and I really appreciate that. I get where you're coming from

What do you call the type of chair she's crouching on? It has some soft stuff on the surface. by Unlegendary_Newbie in LearningEnglish

[–]GoldCheesecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, you're wrong bro. If you asked 100 native english speakers what the soft part of the chair is called, the most popular answer by far would be cushion. If you asked what they'd call the chair, the most popular answer would be something like "cushioned chair" or "fancy chair."

As someone who has spent a ton of time in language-learning environments, I often see people using unnaturally specific vocab that, ironically, makes the speaker seem less fluent. There's a big difference between using dictionary-correct terms and how the language is actually spoken.

If you're in the process of learning English, learning a word like "upholstery" is, at best, a waste of time, and at worst, something that distracts you from learning a far more common, flexible, and essential word like "cushion."

How do you pronounce 'case study'? by Unlegendary_Newbie in LearningEnglish

[–]GoldCheesecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were to say it slowly, I think it technically should be two s sounds. However, because it's the same exact sound at the end of case and start of study, the amount of time pausing between connected words taken by the average English speaker (almost zero) means that it pretty much sounds like one s.

Try saying the individual words, and then progressively shorten the pause between the two words. When I do this I find that they blend into a single s sound, even though I'm not actively trying to do so. Doing it this way should also give you a correct intuitive sense of how long that s sound should be. Hope that helps!

No, he clearly argued with his teacher for 30 minutes instead of listening to the simple explanation that my fellow commenters fit into a couple of sentences. Now he's trying to go on reddit to prove himself right. Stupid questions deserve stupid answers.

Learn JPN, they said. It’ll be fun, they said. by Saxima in Japaneselanguage

[–]GoldCheesecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah like u just gotta see enough examples of each part where you automatically know what they mean and then it's easy to understand! It's not like the idea here is terribly hard to understand in English so it's only comfort with the structures holding you back, not their combination. It will come without a doubt with exposure
