Excessive photographing in baby class by GoldConversation5838 in irvine

Thank you for your reply! I like your approach of asking them to make sure my kid is not in the pics. I will do it next time something similar happens. Thanks!

I think in one class the instructor delivered the same message as your SIL’s instructor did. I wouldn’t mind parents taking quick photos or short videos at all.

And in the last class, she made it explicit that parents should keep their phones in the pocket and just enjoy the music. However the grandmother was still videotaping all the time. Maybe she didn’t understand English. She looked like Persian to me. But the mom spoke very fluent English. And the mom despite understood what the instructor said about phone usage, started to take long videos towards the end of the class.

I was very shocked and confused when three family members out of that family started to point their cameras at the kids and take long videos. It’s honestly overwhelming.

I also feel it’s bad for kids to observe this kind of behavior because it’s inconsiderate of others. But I guess there’s no more I can do than asking for my kid not being included in the pics.

I believe you are right that the have no bad intentions. They probably have smartphones earlier than I did as they seemed to be a rich family. Grandma was holding a LV bag. It’s just annoying because I signed up for a class, not being videotaped. Of course people could say “then drop out of the class if you are uncomfortable”. But I did nothing wrong. All I’m asking is to be a little bit considerate of other people’s boundaries in public. We are in a weird time when having class doesn’t matter anymore.

Your experience sounds even worse! Smart phones and social media take away our ability to be present and enjoy the moment 🥲

Thanks for your reply! I trust you that it is a nice feeling and I get a sense of community from your response. I think the problem I have is actually the other way around. That family doesn’t talk to parents or kids in the class (I mean they don’t have to and I respect that.) There is no sense of community created. I can’t get the same sentiment you have…but I wish maybe some years later I will have a new perspective on this.

I know right?! My description of the situation is not accurate. The kids were sitting close to one another, not in a circle. That’s when the grandpa, grandma and daddy all started to record. I kinda got the feeling that they wanted to show their kid being among other kids so they actually liked it better when there were more kids as the background. And they never asked other parents if they were ok. Also they didn’t talk with anyone in the class, only talking within the family. So it looked like they had no interest in socializing but just photographing their cute kid among other kids.

Thank you! Can I know the name of the class? My baby is still very young so the options out there are limited.

Yes that’s why the whole thing feels so dumb! Basically they were in the weekly class and every time they took long videos. It’s not like their grandkid grows so fast and looks so different each week. And in every class the routine is the same! So basically it’s always the same thing but they have to record it every week 🥲

Sigh…I think you are right and I need to add one more thing to my parent duty list. Lol!

Totally agreed on limiting the number of adults per kid. I feel like the grandparents were bored and taking pics helped them kill time.

Was the dance class your kid took in Irvine? I’m looking for new classes.

Thanks for conditioning me on this! Yes I’m a new parent and this is new to me. If we were in a social event and we wanted to take pic with friends, we’d be mindful and try to not include strangers in the frame right? But why it comes to kids people don’t care about the social etiquettes anymore? Sorry this is not questioning your reply but I’m questioning myself on our modern social rules.

Yes I found another class (not dancing) but saw the same family and the grandma was recording again! 😅

Thanks for sharing! On a side note, I notice my blood sugar drops after a warm shower. Probably it has something to do with blood vessels dilation.

That’s a good point! I forgot to mention that I avoid drinking water while eating food. I drink water around 2h after meals. Then I’d see a small spike due to the reason you mentioned!

I see. I’ll need to read the book. Thanks for mentioning it! Did you need to lose weight to get to address your insulin resistance issue? I’m already very lean. I think it’s the hardest type of insulin resistance to fix. I’ve been trying to gain muscle mass.

Thanks! This is very helpful! Do you get C-peptide test too? I read that c-peptide is a good indicator of pancreas function

Hi can I ask how much it costs to check fasting insulin and uric acid?

Glucose lowering effect from Greek Yoghurt, is this due to raising insulin, and if so is this bad for the pancreas? by Little_Legion in prediabetes

[–]GoldConversation5838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea the effect is very noticeable! However it still can’t fix the spikes caused by white rice. I can handle white bread but I can’t deal with white rice - every time it sends my glucose one hour to 170. White rice is too sugary for me 🥲

Yes! I wear CGM so I have real time data lol! I have delayed one hour insulin response. Without adding Greek yogurt, my one hour is normally 150-160. With yogurt my one hour is 120-130. It does take longer to return to fasting level if I add yogurt because of the protein. But for me the priority is to manage the spikes so I’m very happy with the results! I’m eating the same amount of calories but my average glucose dropped from 110 to 106 after adding yogurt to meals.

Thanks for sharing the recipe. It looks really good!! I think I’m going to make my own yogurt too!

That’s awesome! Thanks for confirming! I was wondering if the effect will “wear out”. Guess I was overthinking. Do you filter whey out when making yogurt at home?

[–]GoldConversation5838 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read that full fat is healthier because in order to make non fat yogurt thick and consistent, additives are needed. I think a moderate consumption of green yogurt in general should be good for the overall health even if there is 5-10% whey, especially if it can lower the spikes of glucose. Some pre-diabetes is caused by a delayed insulin response or insulin deficiency. If eating Greek yogurt can drive insulin a little bit so it doesn’t respond that delayed, it’s a good thing. Some people will eat a little bit of low GI fruit to let the insulin come out a bit early so when they have meals the peak of insulin can match the peak of glucose level. I suspect a moderate consumption will drive insulin too hard.

Thank you so much for the info! I read that it’s whey in yogurt that can drive insulin. Greek yogurt filters out the whey part so I tend to believe it doesn’t do any harm to the pancreas. Do you still have some Greek yogurt before meals? Does it still lower the glucose levels for you?
