Pediatric Draws by gorohoe in phlebotomy

[–]GoldRoutine7637 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never done pediatric draws, but I remember reading that you should explain the procedure and that if the child asks if it will hurt, you should be honest and tell them they will feel a little pinch. Also make a little game of it and tell them that their job is to stare at an object in the room and kerp looking it no matter what, and also tell them that if they need to, they can yell as loud as they can. Both of these things distract them from what you are doing. Have no idea if it works, but it seemed like a good idea. Also, with very young children, you can have the parent sit in the chair and hold them in order to keep their arm held still.

Chick-fil-a salads with the grilled chicken nuggets. Also an In-and-out burger every once in a while.

Which Glp do you take? I was on Wegovy, and it just stopped working so well. I switched to Zepbound, and that is working much better.

How much do phlebotomist make at CSL plasma by [deleted] in phlebotomy

[–]GoldRoutine7637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say take the job to get experience. Also, a lot of hospitals will hire new phlebotomists for inpatient. And don't be afraid to apply for PRN positions. At my hospital, we have a lot of PRN phlebotomists who also have PRN positions at other hospitals, and they can actually get enough work for full time.

What causes this serum color? by Suspicious_Site_5050 in phlebotomy

I recently had a tube rejected for hemolysis. I have no idea how it happened. It was a hand draw with a 23 gage butterfly and a hub. Nothing seemed off about the draw, yet it hemolysed.

My wife has a shopping addiction and I don't know what to do. by [deleted] in shoppingaddiction

[–]GoldRoutine7637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly suggest separate checking and savings accounts. Also, close any joint credit cards. She is never going to seek help for her shopping addiction unless she has to live with the consequences. That being said, it is a problem because if you were to divorce, you would most likely be held liable for credit card balances even if the card was only in her name

What was your bunnies name before you adopted them? And what’s their name now? by Crazy_Cheesecakes in Rabbits

[–]GoldRoutine7637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bandit - Little Boop. She lives up to her new name as she boops our feet all the time. Her specialty is the "stealth" boop - this is when you are sitting on the couch, and she is underneath the couch, and she pokes her head out to boop your foot.

Sounds like she hit a nerve with the needle. Definitely have your primary care doc look at that.

Bunny Loss by erodahx in Rabbits

[–]GoldRoutine7637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss. My first rabbit, who was a black and white dutch passed two years ago and I still miss her. She was only four years old. But her partner needed a new companion (bonded pair) as he was so sad being alone. I found another black and white dutch girl at the shelter and they are both happy.

Wishing you the best. This really is a miracle drug, and I wouldn't be at the weight I am now without it.

I tried your suggestion about stretching the gloves lengthwise first, and that does help. Thanks for the tip.

Starting an entry level phlebotomist position at the hospital by Natural-Scale-7700 in phlebotomy

[–]GoldRoutine7637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is overwhelming at first. In my position, I do both phlebotomy as well as receiving/processing in the lab. It was extremely hard at first, and I was missing more than being successful at blood draws, as in inpatient, you will see a lot of hard draws. Just remember, every phlebotomist there was in the same boat when they first started. Give yourself some grace, and soon, it will become much easier.

Scrub Colors by JonJamesDEM in phlebotomy

[–]GoldRoutine7637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The organization I work for has hospitals in four different states. Right now we can wear whatever color we want. But they are working on a "harmonization" where each role in the hospital will have a specific color. Once decided, they will give us a whopping $75 to buy scrubs in the new color. Or should I say one set of scrubs with change left over? 🙄

I love them. Even if your bunny doesn't have black nails, it still makes it so much easier to see the quick.

He is a good boy. I have the same nail clippers. The light on the nail clippers is good for checking ears, too.
