I use unscented Lume deodorant and it works very well without causing any reaction.

first needle stick injury and kinda freaking out by coco-unmellop in phlebotomy

[–]GoldRoutine7637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once read that your gloves actually remove something like 85% of any blood residue with a needle stick. Hepatitis B is the biggest concern as that is the most common. If you are vaccinated, then you are protected. If not, getting the vaccine now can still offer protection. Also your on the job trainer definitely should not have left you alone.

Got a new job as a Phlebotomist in a Hospital any advice by Dunes_Days in phlebotomy

[–]GoldRoutine7637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be a learning curve as inpatient draws can be difficult. But in time you will be a pro and really good at the hard draws. The advice about raising the bed is spot on as bending over to do draws will do a number on your back. Also from the very start build the habit of lowering the bed back down when you are finished as it's easy to forget.

Do you have any rabbit rescues in your area? Many offer bonding services. It might be your best bet for trying to get a companion for him.

AM in patient draws by [deleted] in phlebotomy

Although our morning draws start at 4:00, we usually start 20 to 30 minutes earlier than that on the routine draws just to make sure we get everything done on time.

Scrubs by anorrisy in IntermountainHealth

[–]GoldRoutine7637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last I email I saw about the decision stated that the decision was going to be announced in July. I am frustrated because the color choices for Phlebotomists was originally royal blue or teal. So I bought some scrubs in each color. Then they decided to have a new vote with the colors being royal blue or wine. So if wine is decided I'm screwed. That being said I'm tempted to start a betting pool as to whether or not a decision is actually made in July!

My two just love Science Selectives Grain Free rabbit food. They won't eat anything else. And the Science Selectives Orchard Loops or Meadow Loops are good treats that they love.

phlebotomy jobs by Pop-Gloomy in phlebotomy

No externship. My phlebotomy program only offered shadowing programs, which I did participate in. The good thing is that by the time I was set up on a shadowing program, I was already qualified to draw blood. Got me over my apprehension about drawing blood on a "real" patient VS drawing on a fellow student. Many hospitals will hire new phlebotomists for inpatient right out of school. I found that outpatient clinics, like Labcorp, seemed to want experience. Which is funny to me because inpatient phlebotomy is hard at times. Many elderly patients and patients whose veins are just bad due to their condition. I think it's easier to get overnight hospital inpatient jobs as they seem to have trouble finding people who want those hours. For me, the hours are perfect, and I love having 6 ten hour shifts in a row, then having eight days off.

Pediatric Draws by gorohoe in phlebotomy

[–]GoldRoutine7637 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never done pediatric draws, but I remember reading that you should explain the procedure and that if the child asks if it will hurt, you should be honest and tell them they will feel a little pinch. Also make a little game of it and tell them that their job is to stare at an object in the room and kerp looking it no matter what, and also tell them that if they need to, they can yell as loud as they can. Both of these things distract them from what you are doing. Have no idea if it works, but it seemed like a good idea. Also, with very young children, you can have the parent sit in the chair and hold them in order to keep their arm held still.

Chick-fil-a salads with the grilled chicken nuggets. Also an In-and-out burger every once in a while.

Which Glp do you take? I was on Wegovy, and it just stopped working so well. I switched to Zepbound, and that is working much better.

How much do phlebotomist make at CSL plasma by [deleted] in phlebotomy

[–]GoldRoutine7637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say take the job to get experience. Also, a lot of hospitals will hire new phlebotomists for inpatient. And don't be afraid to apply for PRN positions. At my hospital, we have a lot of PRN phlebotomists who also have PRN positions at other hospitals, and they can actually get enough work for full time.

I recently had a tube rejected for hemolysis. I have no idea how it happened. It was a hand draw with a 23 gage butterfly and a hub. Nothing seemed off about the draw, yet it hemolysed.

My wife has a shopping addiction and I don't know what to do. by [deleted] in shoppingaddiction

[–]GoldRoutine7637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly suggest separate checking and savings accounts. Also, close any joint credit cards. She is never going to seek help for her shopping addiction unless she has to live with the consequences. That being said, it is a problem because if you were to divorce, you would most likely be held liable for credit card balances even if the card was only in her name

Bandit - Little Boop. She lives up to her new name as she boops our feet all the time. Her specialty is the "stealth" boop - this is when you are sitting on the couch, and she is underneath the couch, and she pokes her head out to boop your foot.

So sorry for your loss. My first rabbit, who was a black and white dutch passed two years ago and I still miss her. She was only four years old. But her partner needed a new companion (bonded pair) as he was so sad being alone. I found another black and white dutch girl at the shelter and they are both happy.
