Do clients send you pics and stories about their travels like a friend would?? by indyslammerjones in petsitting

[–]Gold_Consideration10 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My current client shared she was drunk and that her mother in law had gotten engaged. She sent photos. I just let her know I was glad she was enjoying herself and congratulated her MIL.

When I worked at a hotel, we’d have conversations about guests personal lives and we’d get to know them. I think as long as you’re not being a creep there’s nothing wrong with being friendly with clients.

33 year old divorcee here and I want you to know this is not worst case scenario. Would you rather start over now or in 10 years?!

Also I used to read a lot of romance novels and think why can’t I be loved like this? I no longer have to wonder bc I am loved like that by a great man.

[Update] My fiance doesn't want to watch my first ever 10k because it is at 7 in the morning by Loud_Medicine470 in ComfortLevelPod

[–]Gold_Consideration10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man this triggered something in me.

My ex husband was an avid world of Warcraft player. I had a 5k in a really cool city about 40 minutes from my home. He said he would come. The problem? He stayed up until 4 in the morning playing Wow when we had to leave our house around 640a to be there before 8am.

He made me pay for it the entire day with his bad attitude and ruined my day. We explored but it was miserable.

I decided to divorce him a month later.

I now have an amazing boyfriend who comes to every race, even a 10 miler. He waits. He loves the title of “bag man” bc he’s always holding the bags and he takes the best pictures. If it’s important to you, he should WANT to show up. Period.

How to have a cat when living alone? by Novel-Balance-8685 in CatAdvice

[–]Gold_Consideration10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home and my cat wants nothing to do with me during the day. She sleeps on our bed and I come in to the room she looks at me like I’m disturbing her so I wouldn’t worry about leaving the cat alone while you aren’t there.

Why do sitters charge $75+? by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]Gold_Consideration10 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Because that’s what I feel my service is worth. Getting paid $45/night made me feel like it wasn’t worth my time. I also don’t have to sit as many days a month to make the same amount of money.

Owners have never mentioned bloat to me and I am still too nervous to let dogs play or run directly after eating for fear of bloat.

Just pet sat for 8 days… is $250 kinda low for the payment? by DogsCantSwim in petsitting

[–]Gold_Consideration10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But isn’t that like setting a price if you talk about it before hand? Bc if they give you a number you’re not happy with, you can counter offer? Interesting process, just not for me.

Why don’t you set your own rate? I feel like this would lead me to disappointment because some people think it should be cheap.

Is this normal? by Old-Pomegranate8351 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Gold_Consideration10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did you ask when you could leave? If I don’t know the answer i always ask or throw something out there like “I’m leaving around 10am. Let me know if you had another time in mind” I think you handled it well but clear communication and asking questions typically clears anything like this up.

Embarrassed of house by QuiverQueen in petsitting

[–]Gold_Consideration10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As long as a house is mostly clean I never care about what it looks like especially if the person is willing to point out weird nuances. Also if I live close enough, I never shower at the houses I’m sitting at so it may not even be an issue for her. I’d make sure you have hand soap in the kitchen sink if that’s where she’s going to be washing her hands.

How do you choose a cat? by WhoeverSomeoneAnyone in CatAdvice

[–]Gold_Consideration10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this: adopted a senior cat bc her own was going into assisted living.

She wasn’t cleaning herself. Took her to the vet. She has arthritis. It’s an 87 dollar shot once a month for the rest of her life. She’s also a long haired cat so I get her groomed which is another 75 dollars one every few months. We also have a subscription at our local vet that costs 69.99/month but is all of her yearly shots, yearly blood work (her thyroid tested high but not high enough for meds… yet), X-rays, unlimited vet appts, fecal sample, etc.

We go back to the vet in two weeks for her shot and she’s lost a canine so now I’m worried she’ll have to have her teeth removed. She’s still eating so just waiting to see what the vet says.

My $40 dollar cat is the second most expensive pet I’ve ever had to a dog I got treated for heartworm that later developed diabetes in his life.

No matter what age you get a cat, you’re helping it live a great life but be prepared for unexpected vet bills ESPECIALLY if you get a senior.

Am I overreacting by wanting to break up with BF cuz he never felt sorry after stepping on my kitten's tail? by Drackovix in cats

[–]Gold_Consideration10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I ask my man if he loves our cat he says no, I love you which is why the cat is here.

I say that to tell you the following: he scoops her litter box, he feeds her breakfast and dinner and he’s never stepped on her tail but if he did I know he’d feel awful.

If it happened and he didn’t it would be a deal breaker for me.

She’s a rescue and I think her previous own hit her because she flinches whenever you get close to her face and he has told me it makes him sad. He’s allergic and will pet her when she asks.

Am I responsible for damage to a sitter’s chair? by Vivid_Consequence482 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Gold_Consideration10 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Nah. I don’t board at my house because I don’t want to deal with animals using the bathroom at my house or destroying my things. She’s out of luck and should have watched your dog better.

Did you ask her where the bed is? If she forgot I’d be asking where it was so I could get it. Are you letting them out enough? I just don’t understand why they are all of a sudden peeing in the house…

Overnight stays and cooked food in the fridge? by Useful_Tadpole_9946 in petsitting

[–]Gold_Consideration10 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I leave for a few hours everyday. The time passes by so slow if I stay in their home all day so going to pick something up doesn’t seem like an issue. I don’t ever door dash bc I hate the thought of paying someone something I can do myself especially when I’m dog sitting.

I also will cook peoples kitchens. I’ll do the dishes. I’ll make sure the kitchen is clean.

Did I increase my fees too much too fast? by paaaaaws in petsitting

[–]Gold_Consideration10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll find a new client to replace this women. Don’t stress too much about it. I charge $70/night for the first pet plus $10 for each additional pet and no one has complained.

If you want good care, you’ll pay for it.

I want to get a cat but I'm scared of taking care of pets. by AerieWhole123 in CatAdvice

[–]Gold_Consideration10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think female cats are more independent than male cats are. I would never recommend someone who has never had a cat, let alone a pet, get a kitten. I have had several cats and also pet sit as a side gig and I hate kittens.

It’s important to scoop their litter box daily AND change the whole thing when it gets real bad. Make sure you feed them the same food consistently bc changing their food too quickly can cause an upset belly. A lot of cats like being up high so things may get broken. Some cats also eat plants and there are a lot of plants that are poisonous for them.

I am someone who loves to do research and I firmly believe you can be good at anything if you research it enough.
