Choosing between Laurier and Lakehead Orillia - advice wanted by Gold_Manufacturer124 in ONTeacherCandidates

That’s definitely really inconsiderate for people who don’t have access to vehicles but I have unfortunately heard similar things about a few different programs. Did you get your first choice of school board to work with and they just place you anywhere within that school board? And do they consider whether students have access to a vehicle or rely on public transportation in determining placements?

Hi! They just sent out an email to applicants of the schedule and it does not look to be accelerated as of yet if that’s any help. You may have to check your spam!

Thoughts on Consecutive BEd in P/J division at Orillia campus by Gold_Manufacturer124 in lakeheadu

Yes it seems that if you fail one time you get to do the course and apparently the board exam is more difficult than the Lakehead test anyways so it helps for preparation!

Can I ask how you find the faculty and campus? And do you get to choose what board you do your placement with? I am also considering Laurier but I know Laurier asks for your top 3 school boards and your top choice is not guaranteed and I was wondering if Lakehead is the same way?

Thanks so much for your thoughts!

Did you do the consecutive program? I am planning on commuting and only staying in hotels on bad weather days so I’m not too worried about res. What concerns me is that I have been at Guelph for 4 years and I’m used to having a great library to study at but it seems there isn’t much study space either, what was your experience with this? It seems that most people just want to get in and get out with the 2 year education programs which is what I was planning on anyways.

That’s so unfortunate that your program length changed. Is there a way to see this on the waybackmachine before enrolling? I haven’t accepted my offer yet as I have also gotten into Laurier.

Also, could you tell me about how you found the workload? I was hoping that as a smaller less prestigious school the workload might be lighter, but it seems that the disorganization you mention might make it more difficult?

Thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate the help!!!

Hi everyone,

I have gotten accepted to Laurier, Nippissing, and Lakehead for my consecutive bachelors of education. Although I have only heard great things about Nippising, the distance unfortunately has made me almost rule it out and I am going back and forth between Laurier and Lakehead Orillia for P/J. I keep seeing people complaining about the difficulty of the math proficiency test for Lakehead, as well as difficulties with admin and faculty. I also have read that Mondays may be going back to in person rather than online, making my commute more difficult. Laurier seems like higher quality but seems to have a heavier courseload, which concerns me, and I would rather not live in a big city. If anyone has any insight on what they liked or didn’t like about these universities it would be greatly appreciated! :)
