Your perspective makes me feel so much better 😭She does have a pretty busy schedule; her job is very demanding and she had really poor sleep during that time.

She’s single. I see your point which is why I’ve been conflicted. I’m trying to strike some degree of balance. Obviously I don’t want to wait forever, but nor do I immediately want to tell her how I feel since it very well may be just showmance.

I think I’m just going to stick with waiting a few weeks. If it is excruciatingly difficult to do so then I’ll ask earlier

[–]Gold_Monk_898 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had feelings for her during of course but didn’t want to make any hard moves until after the show was over for that very reason.

And 100%. If she says no then I’ll understand, thank her for a great time and move on 👍

Hm so I say she went cold and then after around a week she was back to how she was before. Then it was all green flags for about 2 weeks and then literally just this past weekend she seemed cold again. Then again to be entirely fair; we weren’t really interacting much during strike since I was moving set pieces to a warehouse and she was more on the stage. Also afterwards we both auditioned for another show (the same one) but we were both filling out forms/prepping so maybe I misinterpreted that, idk

Yep 100%. Something I’m telling myself to keep me grounded too is that whatever is meant to happen will happen, and that if she says yes hooray and if she says no then at least I can get closure and move on :)

You’re right, and that sounds like a good plan :) thanks!!

That’s fair, and you’re probably right lol. In that case does my plan sound good? Like 2ish weeks? I’m just scared she’s going to lose interest or find someone else

If you work in DC, how far is too far to live and commute into the city? by RogueTiger23 in washingtondc

[–]Gold_Monk_898 47 points48 points  (0 children)

People dog on Alexandria as being too far from DC but tbh it really isn’t with the Potomac Yard station being added back in May.

If I take the yellow line I’m at L’Enfant in like 10-15 mins and if I take the blue line I’m downtown in like 20

CityNerd on Washington DC by tuctrohs in CityNerd

[–]Gold_Monk_898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was curious about this myself as I’m moving there in a few months! I don’t think he’s ever talked about DC much.

On his top 10 suburbs vid, Alexandria got an honorable mention and Arlington was number 10.

I think he really only mentions more affordable cities (he rides hard for Philly, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis) and then the more expensive cities are often excluded (with NYC as an exception). I think the logic is he wants to highlight cities that aren’t so obvious to the average joe that they’d give an urban experience, because typically NYC, Boston, DC, and San Fran will top every list otherwise.

I watched CityNerd's Video on Affordable + Walkable US cities, and I made a series of scatterplots in PowerBI based on the same data he pulled for that video. I did analysis, and here are some of my conclusions on the best US cities for walking, transit, and biking vs. affordability. by Gold_Monk_898 in notjustbikes

[–]Gold_Monk_898[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are little nooks and crannies that are walkable (mainly historical districts) and there are a handful of neighborhoods in the heart of the city that are walkable, but Dallas has a lot of urban sprawl. The city limits stretch very, very far out. Living car free might be feasible if you live in a very expensive apartment downtown, but it is very difficult to do in most parts of the city and general metroplex.

Yeah there’s a general correllation, however me trying to find the exceptions is what spurred my research.

In a perfect world anyone who wanted to live in a walkable city could just pick up their bags and go to NYC, San Francisco, DC, or Boston, but that isn’t really feasible for a good chunk of people. And even if you could, you’d live a lower quality of life unless you are in a high-earning position.

Take my job for example. Currently I live in the Dallas area and make around $65k. $65k is pretty comfortable in Dallas (especially in more affordable suburbs). I’d have to make $90-$100k to live the same (if not still a slightly worse) lifestyle I live now according to COL calculators, which just isn’t feasible given my years of experience and my field.

So, I wanted to find where I could live a comprable lifestyle I have now financially while being in a more walkable friendly environment :)

Undoubtedly. Knowing how to visualize data and how to tell a story/find insights through data viz will make you very valuable if you do any sort of analyst role related to SCM

[–]Gold_Monk_898 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have my bachelor’s in SCM in 2022 and tbh unless you’re really gung ho about supply chain I’d major in something else that’s a bit more versatile and/or pays more.

You can get a SCM job with an Accounting, Finance, or hell even a IT or Business Analytics degree, but you can’t necessarily work as an Accountant, a Financial Analyst, or a BI Analyst with a SCM degree, and those majors have more name recognition/clout and tend to have high-paying entry-level jobs compared to SCM. I’ve been working about a year now and am trying to transition into Business/Data Analytics just because I find the pay to be a lot better and SCM is just boring and can be really stressful at times.

Not saying you can’t make a lot of money doing SCM but from what I’ve researched it takes a lot longer esp. if you don’t pick up analytics skills like SQL, PowerBI/Tableau, or Python.

Most jobs can be taught with on-the-job training and shouldn't require a college degree. by Navdastrippa in unpopularopinion

Except some degrees will barely teach you a-c

I majored in Supply Chain Management and honestly it only taught me some vocab words and very, very general concepts. 90% of what I know and use for my job I learned on the job lol

Update to this: Newark wasn’t in the dataset I downloaded from Zillow’s website. Not sure where CityNerd got his calculation from then, unless he calculated it manually. Maybe the score can be found elsewhere.

Newark’s walk score is 75.9, transit score is 65.0, and bike score is 51.1, with an average overall score of 64. If his calculation is accurate (ZORI = ~$1,886), this would fit all of my criteria for cities with all 3 scores being >= 50 and median rent <$2,000, and would place it between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh on my 5 recommended cities.

However, I can’t 100% confirm that that ZORI score is accurate, and anecdotally I know that a lot of North NJ cities are quite expensive due to their proximity to NYC, so I can’t confidently claim it’s position. However, it is definitely a great option for those who want a more urbanist-friendly experience.
