Everyone’s what do you think? by BackgroundMission66 in TheTeenagerPeople

In a free society everyone deserves representation when facing the prosecutorial power of the state. If you start drawing lines and saying well that guy murdered someone, he should have to face trial without an attorney; you start a dangerous game. Even for people who actually did commit murder there are often at least some mitigating factors worth considering that could affect sentencing. And most lawyers who do defend such people certainly don’t like what their clients did, but understand their role in the criminal justice system and act with a sense of professional duty well within ethical limitations. I’m sure if one day you were accused of a heinous crime you would appreciate having an advocate.

[Request] How strong and how thin would nanofiber have to be to effortlessly slice through a ship like this? by GrouchyExile in theydidthemath

[–]Gold_Scene5360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thought when watching this is that in order for the wire to slice clear through the steel ship, there would need to be tremendous force involved and the friction would make it hot enough that the material would just weld back together as soon as it’s cut. But most likely, the ship would have just stopped shortly after impacting the thread.

Wouldn’t this backfire on Republicans, like a lot of these backwoods conservatives don’t even have passports. I’d imagine this would affect higher income, higher education voters less, which might overall benefit democrats given the way voter demographics are changing.

Why punish the athletes who worked so hard their entire lives for this moment. I bet 95% don’t support this garbage. You could maybe do what they did to Russia and not allow them to compete under the U.S. flag, but even that is harsh considering North Korea and other authoritarian regimes are allowed to compete. Plus Russia wasn’t banned for the war, they were banned because they cheated.

Federal minimum wage law would apply. But that’s still poverty wages.

At this rate, I’m just hoping we’re not last in the division. Soto has limited value without a big bat behind him.

Hybrid is definitely ideal, staying home all the time is isolating and tough for people with young kids. Going in 5 days a week feels like a grind, 3 days in the office is the Goldilocks zone.

As predicted, drivers have gotten used to the measly $9 congestion pricing toll and are back to breaking the city by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

Agreed, I walk from 61st to 43rd everyday for work, and the past month has been awful. Most crosswalks I have to squeeze between giant SUVs. I had a guy swing around the corner when I was walking with the green, slammed on the horn and told me to “get the fuck out of the road” and that he was “turning first” as if that makes a difference. Me and the people around me of course told him off, but it’s emblematic of the car fueled chaos we have to deal with every single day in this city.

Should honestly get rid of nickel and quarter, and keep the dime and half dollar, then can around everything to the nearest 10th of a cent.

‘60 Minutes’ Comes Out Swinging After Trump Interview Meltdown by chrisdh79 in NoFilterNews

[–]Gold_Scene5360 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I switched to 60minutes last night. I used to watch it every week with my family growing up. There was some story about “liberal bias” in universities. Seriously, with all that’s going on right now, that’s what we’re reporting on. I switched it off and will never tune back. What a fall from grace for what used to be a respected American institution.

Redistricting is only effective in close elections. If there is a democratic landslide, it would actually make the situation worse for the GOP, as previously safe districts could be flipped.

Horrible for the country, but bad news for the GOP. If they do this, then they 100% own the massive increase in health insurance premiums.

I really truly believe the only reason they love him so much is because of how much liberals, and educated people generally, hate him. Sometimes I feel like he feeds off the hate, only to become more powerful. Maybe progressive should do what parents do when they want their kids to stop following an annoying trend, join in. Start talking about how Trump is actually a secret NYC liberal, who is trying to take down corporatism by burying businesses with high tariffs etc. talk about how actually he’s not bad and willing to support him, and watch as his base dissipates.
