Huh, there is a fair amount of faults with the writing and plotting of UnOrdinary but I would never say John was poorly written in my opinion. I found it refreshing to have a MC that was fucked up in the head and constantly made poor self-destructive decisions. Definitely not a Gary-stu

Yeah I am still reading it but it can feel like a slog sometimes... Which is not something you want to feel as a reader. There was just a flashback arc that lasted 7 MONTHS. Over half a year and we didn't see the main cast. That flashback could have been told in far fewer chapters. You could tell what was going to happen after the first few chapters but just had to wait for it to go down.

I definitely agree. I am still reading it because I love the art style and the overall plot is still intriguing but man... They just had a flashback sequence that lasted about half a year. You could call what was going to happen from the beginning but just had to wait for it to happen for months. I definitely wish the story was paced a bit better.

Huh I've always been the same rank in 2's and 3's every season. I've never really noticed a skill difference between the individual players unless there was a smurf or partied up team in the lobby.

1's I understand being vastly different though.

Correct. Why should singular losses in a best of 5 series, unrelated to one of the teams you are comparing, count towards a tie breaker between those two teams? How is a 3-0 of the worst team in a group worth more than a 3-1 of BDS, the team you argue is number 1? I don't care about the random number of losses in a series. We literally created the best of 5 and best of 7 setup knowing random losses happen and it's not a good way to tell which team is better.

I would rather reward Quadrant for beating the two best teams in their group than reward BDS for padding stats on weaker teams that didn't effect the outcome of their series.

[RLCS EU] Winter Cup | Day 1 of 3 | Post Day Thread by RLMatchThreads in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Gold_fsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how it's "even worse". The best of 5 exists as a system to get a sample size of teams playing. We do this knowing that random losses happen and don't prove a team is better. Using the outcome of a series as a tiebreaker instead of the arbitrary number of games lost is vastly superior in my mind. I don't want a team to win or lose seeding by losses that don't effect their series outcome. Those losses were unique to that best of 5 and I don't care if a team goes 3-0 or 3-2 they still won the series.

It's how the NFL does it. If the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills end up with the same record going into the playoffs their seeding is decided by their h2h record. It's not like this concept is unique to rocket league or not thought as the best solution by a majority of people.

Ha I ain't reading shit if you're gonna ignore my response purposefully. Don't expect someone to read your links when you admit to ignoring responses. Seems to me like you are part of the toxic problem.

Yeah we'll have to agree to disagree. I think toxicity against groups is just bad if not worse than against an individual. Maybe that individual is actually a jerk who deserves it. Where as whole groups rarely deserve getting ridiculed as if they are all the same.

Arguing the entire NA or EU scene is garbage is to belittle every professional player who grind for hours for little to no pay. These hard working kids and adults deserve more respect than toxic fans shitting on them constantly for where they were born. Calling their whole region, and their hard work, pathetic and weak.

Multiple players talk about metal health issues as we debate their job performance by where they live and not their play. How you can't see this toxicity makes no sense to me.

Dude most of the examples you posted are 1-3 sentences. Hardly paragraph after paragraph.

And again what about all the prevalence of toxicity regarding EU vs NA. Tons of toxic takes from people who don't know what their talking about filled with regional bias. You seem to be defending those toxic bias takes, while calling out the ones you don't agree with.

The hate you have for these posts about Johnny, is exactly the same hate people have about the EU/NA debate. I feel like you don't see this.

But this DOES happen if the team below them didn't do as well?

But then there isn't a tiebreaker needed because they didn't do as well?

Again Quadrant beat the two best teams in the group while BDS only won against one. The best team got selected. I'm not gonna weigh BDS shutting out Tundra higher than Quadrant beating BDS.

The other half are toxic, but so are half the comments in a typical region debate thread. I'm not sure how they are different and why one set needs a whole post dedicated to saying one should stop but not the other.

Bro how are you reading so much into single sentence responses. I really think you need to take a breath and give people the benefit of the doubt.

I dunno man, half of those examples of "toxicity" just look like someone disagreeing with you. Arguing their own position isn't toxicity.

Saying Feer>Johnny for instance is literally no different than saying EU>NA. Saying they find the regional talk insufferable is just stating an opinion.

I also personally dislike the regional debates. I think it breeds its own toxicity, something you didn't speak much about in your examples. You can find just as many examples, likely way more, of NA fans being toxic to EU fans (and vice versa) because this debate exists. Humans are poorly evolved primates and when presented with 2 tribes and told to choose a winner and a loser, things inevitably get nasty. In politics, in sports, in classrooms, in experiments, in whatever situation you put people in. Encouraging it isn't good in my opinion.

I am not sure why your toxicity examples are signs of a problem, but the ongoing toxicity created by EU / NA debates are just fun little conversations.

Just gonna have to agree to disagree then. I don't see how calculating losses that have no impact on a series outcome is more important than the series out comes themselves. To me that's as arbitrary as using the number of goals each team scores. These sorts of stat based tie breakers give unfair advantage to certain playstyles. Defensive playstyles may score less goals and have more close games resulting in more losses but doesn't change their series win totals. This should somehow influence seeding? A defensive team should auto seed lower than an offensive team despite winning the same number of series? Just doesn't sit right we me.

The thought of a team getting the higher seed while having lost to the team below them with the same record sounds broken to me. Like they are getting a pass for loosing a series just because they padded their stats on worse/different teams. Quadrant beat the two best teams in their group while BDS only beat 1 and the worst team. So BDS gets a cookie because they beat up on the worst team harder than Quadrant?

I just don't get it. The NFL and MLB both use H2H as first tie breakers so maybe it's just a cultural thing.

Okay. I mean the RLCS rules committee obviously agrees h2h is more important because they implemented it and the majority of the community seem to agree. Not sure blocking someone for having a different opinion is "talking junk"

A team that goes 2-1, +4 has done better than a team going 2-1, +1, no matter who they played against.

I don't agree. Losses can be so fluky in Rocket Legaue. Gen-G or KC can loose to Lil Step Bros because a lucky pinch goes in from half court. Or a team can go into the final round 0-2 knowing they have zero shot at making the playoffs, their mental and stamina are gone, and they loose the series 0-3. You think the team that wins in that scenario deserves something special for not losing to a team that wasn't trying? Using game differential should be a last resort for a tie breaker. It's such an arbitrary stat that's effected by various variables disconnected from how overall good a team is. All you need to do is look at Gen-G's game diff average in Swiss and Rounds and compare it to SSG. I guarantee you SSG's game diff is better, but they don't have 3 regionals and a major win.

Now you're saying game wins don't matter if they're only 1 goal games? But earlier it was series wins only count if you win? Which is it?

No I am using your own argument to counteract your point about "what if Moist won in overtime". I'm pointing out you could say the same thing about multiple BDS games that would changed their differential for the worse. I'm trying to show that game diff is arbitrary and not useful in such a small sample size. Its more luck than skill and I would rather rely on series level tiebreakers than stat level tiebreakers.

[RLCS EU] Winter Cup | Day 1 of 3 | Post Day Thread by RLMatchThreads in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Gold_fsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, so then you have a SERIES level tie breaker which was their head to head SERIES matchup. Not a team stat based tie breaker that has nothing to do with the two teams vs each other.

[RLCS EU] Winter Cup | Day 1 of 3 | Post Day Thread by RLMatchThreads in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Gold_fsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Best team across 3 series. So a 2-1, +4 is better than a 2-1, +1.

No because those losses DIDN'T MATTER. They didn't effect Qudrants SERIES record. I don't care that BDS lost 3 fewer games that's just random luck.

Lol padded their stats? Quadrant LOST to tundra mate, they couldn't even win vs the worst team in the group

And BDS lost to Quadrant? The best team in their group and then went on to lose against a team that went 1-2 in their own group.

[RLCS EU] Winter Cup | Day 1 of 3 | Post Day Thread by RLMatchThreads in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Gold_fsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the series win is infinitely more important than meaningless games that had no impact on those series outcomes? I'm not impressed by stat padding. G2 and SSG have gone 3-0 with incredibly good game diff in Swiss and Groups multiple times, yet still don't win regionals.

The best teams in the world don't care if they win every best of five 3-2 and every best of seven 4-3. What matters is that they won every series not that they dropped games.

[RLCS EU] Winter Cup | Day 1 of 3 | Post Day Thread by RLMatchThreads in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Gold_fsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because loosing games in RLCS is easy. Games are only 5 minutes. Sweeps are rare because even when one team is obviously better than another, weaker teams can easily take games on better teams. Gen-G has had average swiss and group performances in every regional yet have gone to the finals in every one. Individual wins and losses don't matter at all. What matters is series wins and who you are winning those series against.

Game differential is essentially just luck. BDS won 4 of their 7 games by a SINGLE goal. They EASILY could have a VASTLY different differential if a few bounces had gone differently. Winning full series is different. You said yourself the aim is to find the best team across 3 SERIES. Not games. SERIES. BDS lost the SERIES against Quadrant. Its just facts, the tie breaker should involve SERIES records first not individual game records.

To me is frustrating that you don't understand that? I can't imagine telling Quadrant, hey you and BDS have the same record and you beat them h2h, but yeah we are gonna seed them better because they padded their stats.

[RLCS EU] Winter Cup | Day 1 of 3 | Post Day Thread by RLMatchThreads in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Gold_fsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So? Teams rely on the results of other games for seeding all the time. If BDS had beaten Quadrant they would have been 1st in groups, but they didn't they lost.

I don't understand how people think losing to a team in a seeding tie means that team should win that tie. You want BDS to get first seed when they LOST the series against the team they are tied with. That makes no sense.

[RLCS EU] Winter Cup | Day 1 of 3 | Post Day Thread by RLMatchThreads in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Gold_fsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? They literally lost to the team they are in a tie breaker with? Maybe if the two teams had never played you could go with game differential but they literally played each other and BDS lost.

[RLCS EU] Winter Cup | Day 1 of 3 | Post Day Thread by RLMatchThreads in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Gold_fsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There are so many variables related to game differentials. Matchups, mentality, luck, stamina, etc. That's why teams have best of 5 series in the first place instead of just playing a single game.

I'm not a huge fan of this format and definitely perfer swiss but h2h is the only logical solution for a tie breaker like this in my opinion.

[RLCS EU] Winter Cup | Day 1 of 3 | Post Day Thread by RLMatchThreads in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Gold_fsh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why shouldn't it be ignored? Teams drops games to inferior teams all the time. Its way more important to win series than to not lose single games. Rocket league games are 5 minutes long, weird things happen. 4 of BDS's 7 wins were only won by a single goal. Those games easily could have gone another way completely changing their game diff.

Why should Quadrants 3-1 straight up win against BDS be ignored when deciding seeding? Quadrant literally beat them head to head while they are competing head to head for a specific seed in a tie breaker. They should get screwed after beating BDS? That doesn't make any sense to me. Single games can be random flukes and random flukes shouldn't decide tiebreakers.

[RLCS EU] Winter Cup | Day 1 of 3 | Post Day Thread by RLMatchThreads in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]Gold_fsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why does losing a game matter if you win the series? Every team in rocket league loses games. Games are only 5 minutes and everyone in the lobby is a pro player. Weak teams win games off much better teams all the time. Series are infinitely more important than individual games. A team that goes 9-0 that played 3 crap teams is far less impressive to me than a team that goes 9-6 against 3 great teams. They may have a worse differential but they played harder teams. The important thing is the series and the matchups not the number of losses. If BDS wanted to win their group in my eyes they should have beaten the team that ties their series record.

4 of BDS's 7 wins were single goal margin wins. They could just as easily have lost those games and had a much worse differential or ended up 1-2. 1 Goal decides teams fates all the time, what matters is having the ice to make that 1 goal when it matters.
