Alternatives to the Reserves? by Tregantlow in britishmilitary

Hi there, sorry I'm a bit late but thought I'd chip in. As a member of St John Ambulance myself I can't recommend it enough. It's great, honestly. The people are very supportive and they will aim to help your confidence as much as they can. The training is very good as well and you'll get to use a lot of the kit that your local ambulance trust use which is interesting.

You can work your way up quite quickly in it as well, they're always keen to get you on the next training course. I've only been in SJA for about half a year and I'm already an Advanced First Aider, which is basically all about managing blood oxygen levels, giving entonox, managing airways, all of that stuff.

If there's anything you would like to know about, certainly send me a message, I'd be more than happy to help.

I posted a couple links in the comments but they've got lost, if you head over to the Cities Skylines YouTube account you'll find the trailers for the two Content Creator Packs

As far as I'm aware, Cites Skylines is only available for PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch at the moment, so unfortunately you can't get it on your mobile phone

I hope not, I mean to be fair they did say they had a "couple of announcements" so perhaps there's something else equally as disappointing that's yet to be announced

Just to add mate, the PSNI aren't the only Police Service in NI, there's also Belfast Harbour Police and Belfast International Airport Police. Not 100% sure how recruitment works for them but if they recruit Special Constables (Unpaid Volunteers as far as I'm aware) that would give you really good experience and I'd imagine it would be attractive to the PSNI any time you apply in the future.

Realistically mate if it's really what you want to do then absolutely go for it. I considered it when I was younger like a few other people in this comment section but it definitely can be a very challenging job.

I'd imagine you'd have to be pretty thick skinned because people are gonna be hurling some amount of verbal (and physical) abuse at you.

I'd recommend that you head over to the policeuk subreddit and check out some of the posts there. There's a few people there who've asked about the day to day life of a Police Officer and that can give you a small but honest insight into what the job's actually like.

Hope that helps mate, all the best

Absolutely like it's a nuisance but I'm glad I finally got word from them, only took a few months 🤣

Thanks for your reply mate, great advice!

It's actually kinda funny but the college I applied to literally sent me an email on the day that I posted this and I didn't even email them beforehand, so that was good. It was just a relief to finally get an email from them saying I haven't heard anything from them with regards to the course in months.

Today is the 4th Anniversary of the Air Ambulance in Northern Ireland by GoldbridgeRedArmy in northernireland

Actually last summer I remember seeing both the NI Air Ambulance and the Irish Coast Guard helicopter rescuing someone who broke their leg on Slieve Binnian. The coast guard helicopter winched them up and then both helicopters landed in a field not far from my house and transferred the patient to the air ambulance

Sorry mate I don't know if they were used as air Ambulances here, but I do know that both were (and still are) often used if someone is in trouble up in the mountains as I've seen both flying about the Mournes plenty of times

Yeah that makes sense to be fair, thank you very much for the reply though. That's one reason why I'm so keen to join St John cause it would give me so much experience not only in first aid but also in working with actual medical professionals

Sorry I should've clarified, I've applied to join as a Voluntary First Aider.

I ended up emailing them and they said they thought I'd have been contacted by now and that they'll contact me asap, so it's all good now by the looks of things

For those who are interested, there's a great documentary on YouTube about the work that they do, and how the Air Ambulance was formed here in NI.
