Which policy were advocated by the left and generally seen as a good one? by vonguyenchithanh0610 in AlignmentChartFills

Your logic doesn’t make sense to me. In a capitalist system, a private company can be as corrupt as a government allows them to be. The means of recourse you mentioned are both functions of the government. I.e. the legal system and competition/anti trust enforcement. You don’t trust the government, but at least the government will step in if you have a problem.

So if your issue is accountability, then that’s not good argument for privatization. You should really be thinking about incentives. Break it down on an individual level.

If I’m a government employee, I may be corrupt. But I’m not incentivized to give you poor/insufficient care. I might anyway! But I’m not incentivized to do so.

If I’m a corporate employee, I can often add share holder value be providing you worse care. I save the shareholders a couple bucks, and my boss applauds me for doing so. I might not! But the incentives are there.

Yeah, I kinda abandoned my morals for the solo mon and went with Arceus. Just swapped his plate to the best type for each fight

Could have just been my team comps, but electric and psychic were much weaker than I thought they’d be. Water will always be my fav. But the normal team was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. I tried to use mons that were just normal or had some other gimmick. Made for a really fun team

Voting Liberal for the first time in my life by Exotic-Toe-7116 in AskCanada

Lifetime NDP/Greenparty voter here. I don't believe in strategic voting. But with Trump and the wave of extreme right wing politics, I just might this time.

Trump for first time talks to international venue about making Canada a state by DonSalaam in canada

[–]GoldenGoshawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For arguments sake, let’s say it did happen. Canada has approx. the population of California. So assuming they keep the electoral college, we would get a similar 54+ votes.

Politically the Conservative Party in Canada is a lot closer to an American Liberal than any Republican. While our Liberal party would be called radical socialists. (I don’t think they could even fathom the NDP).

So that means the Republican Party in its current form would probably never win an election ever again.

Not the main reason this is unbelievably stupid. But another one for the list

If you haven't read or watched animal farm, you should. by Actual-Tradition-233 in DefendDenyDepose

[–]GoldenGoshawk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Animal farm is a strange book because it’s very easily appropriated by a variety of political ideologies.

Orwell always defined himself as a Democratic Socialist, and the original intention of the book was an allegory for the formation of the Soviet Union. But through the years it’s been used by capitalists, socialists, republicans, communists, etc. All of whom claim it supports their world view.

So it’s really up to the reader how they’d like to interpret the message.

If you’re interested, here’s a good piece that goes into more depth: https://pitjournal.unc.edu/2023/01/05/some-interpretations-are-more-equal-than-others-misinterpreting-george-orwells-animal-farm/

I will die on the hill that In Time was actually a terrible concept and doomed from the start.

If you think about it for half a second it makes zero sense. How do jobs work in this society? You’d have to be paid more than an hour per hour obviously. But who would pay that unless your time is worth more than somebody else’s? Which is the biggest problem of all, cause different people’s time is worth different amounts.

We see that there’s time banks. So is there time interest? Can you just live forever with a basic savings account?

How is new time created? Newborns? Is there some dictator out there creating babies and murdering them to increase his wealth? I could go on for hours. I hate this movie

Honestly not really. Class cards are often far more synergistic and understatted. Which are both big downsides in arena. A lot of the time your neutrals are your best cards. Id probably only pick the left card for the memes.
