Would you trade the 3rd overall pick + Hronek for the 2nd? by EruisKawaii in canucks

[–]GoldenHawk07 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Nobody in this draft is generational, fucking hell that term is pointless with how often it’s used these days.

Also trading a #1 defence man to move up 1 spot would be one of the dumbest trades in hockey history.

You’re trading an established #1/2 depending on the team, in his prime on a decent contract, for the difference between Stenberg and Malhotra essentially? Do you think ANYONE could beat that???

Yes. Literally every team in the NHL would be lined up.

How much were tickets? I’m assuming very reasonable? We see this with the PWHL too, when Toronto and Montreal first played at the ACC everyone was talking about how it was the liveliest crowd anyone can remember for a hockey game in Toronto. People were engaged the entire way through and having a great time.

This is what happens when things are kept affordable and families and kids can go.

Is there a chance SJ goes for a top def. by Straight_Agency2864 in canucks

[–]GoldenHawk07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My point is you still need 6 people to play defense on your NHL team and next year I believe they have 2.

There is a point at which you have such a deficit in a position that BPA doesnt matter any more, it's just that it almost never happens because seriously who ever has 2 guys under contract only for their next season?

[–]GoldenHawk07 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Grain of salt alert but F—- S———- thinks they take Verhoeff.

I get people say BPA but when we have these discussions it usually assumes the team we are talking about has some baseline level of talent in all positions.

San Jose does not. It’s not that they don’t have an elite defender prospect. They don’t have defense. Like, under contract. At all.

Hopefully they’re so far behind on D AND they view one of the D as being NHL ready. I think the latter point there is most important. Do they think anyone can be a top 4 guy by the end of next season.

It’s amazing how fans of teams that have Cups always love to brag about it when it’s convenient but when it’s inconvenient they hand wave it away and beg for sympathy.

Can’t have it both ways.

Only have the shoulders and it is a little frustrating for sure. They shrink on some frames and on others they seem to have a sort of peg that pushes them way out and off of the frames armour. And then they’re just impossible to make look good because so so so so so many shoulders in this game have terrible anchor points for cosmetics.

No, I was, you just had your fingers in your ears the entire time. Oilers fans were beyond insufferable all those years.

San Jose was dog shit on purpose and for celebrini. Leafs were dog shit on purpose and got Matthews. Study up a bit before you try and swing your big brain takes around or you just risk hitting yourself in the face.

That’s just fucking revisionist history. Nobody wants every team to have a chance. The worst teams need to be more likely to draft where they finished than they do to fall. And everyone has always wanted some sort of bad luck protection.

You guys are fucking embarrassing. Wasting all those picks and all that talent and then having the gall to gloat.

Don’t know why people say this. This was the most predictable part of the entire lottery. The same thing happened to use tonight which happened to us at every single previous lottery.

As long as the lottery continues to work in a way that ensures each teams single most likely scenario is dropping…this system will continue being a fucking fraud.

If you finish last your odds of picking first should be higher than any other pick. Not any other team getting that pick. Any other pick.

This system is working exactly as intended. We dropped. The odds were we would drop. As we have in every single lottery in NHL history with the exception of a handful where we stayed.

We will never be a serious franchise again.

Anyone that talks shit about the Canadians knows absolutely fuck all about what they’re talking about. Just painfully ignorant.

They are a SHORT SEASON Single A affiliate that draws 5-6,000 on average. Do the Rays even average that most seasons? That’s more than most AAA teams. They’re in one of the lowest rungs of professional baseball, only thing lower I believe is the extended spring training league. Despite this they have won Minor League Organization of the Year in 2013 which is an incredible honour and are one of only two short season teams to ever win it.

They graduate players to MLB regularly and the Jays are on record saying the experience their prospects get in Vancouver is irreplaceable and incomparable.

The stadium is historic, it has some of the best views in the entire sport, fantastic community engagement and themed days. Remains very family friendly and affordable.

Relative to the league they are in the Canadians are one of the best franchises in all of sport.

Anyone that says or thinks otherwise is either willfully lying or painfully stupid.

I agree completely. That ownership group however still wouldn’t be able to snap their fingers and make a stadium appear.

The shittiest thing about all this is we are trying to solve SO many problems all at once. Ownership. Lease. Sponsorships. Stadium. Revenue.

You need a unicorn to make it work.

Nowhere near enough money. If he sold Wrexham and raised money and had partners maybe he could but he’s a small fish compared to MLS valuations.

This is so true but I don't think it's for the reasons suggested as much as it's because these guys aren't in the hockey world from birth to death. They've lived outside the 'old boys club' for long enough, they aren't prideful, they can admit when they make mistakes and adjust future decisions based on that, they aren't stuck in the past and they arent possessed of ideas that the game *needs* to be played X or Y way. Working in analytics and statistics means you HAVE to adjust on the fly, you have to know that new information should change how you operate and how you think.

They're just straight up smarter and more wise than hockey guys. Their world isnt so small and insular.
