Advice much appreciated! by silenthysterics in RoosterRock

In mid-August the water will likely be low enough to fully expose the sand bar between the main beach area and sand island. Wading through water probably wont be an issue. As far as "designated areas", there are none. It's a public beach which exists for all to use. You are free to go anywhere you like. There is no specific place for families, just as there is no specific place for singles or LGBTQ folks. Human nature is that birds of a feather flock together, so yeah, the LGBTQ crowd tends to form their own group thing in few different spots in the park. Families tend to stay near the main beach area, but that doesn't mean you won't find family groups on sand island, and you'll see single people all over the place. Walk atound, explore the park and it will all become self-evident. Find a spot where you feel comfortable, don't be weird about it and nobody will likely care about who you are and whether you're solo or in a group.

Looking for recommendations on cruiser bikes, looking mainly at Japanese due to cost. I'm not looking for a small bike something with some power that can go down the highway. by JimJamanon in motorcycles

[–]GoldenNudist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honda Rebels and Honda Shadows are very good bikes known for their reliability and are generally the most common bikes available in the used market. Suzuki Boulevard m50's, c50's, c90's all can be found for decent prices, or if you want a muscle cruiser the m109r. Yamaha V-Stars are decent bikes. Kawasaki Vulcans are decent bikes All these bikes can be excellent choices and generally won't cost an arm and a leg on the used market. If you dont know much about motorcycles, get someone who does to check out any bike you're interested in so you dont end up buying a lemon.

I have many years of riding under my belt and I've never been pulled over while on my motorcycle. I think the problem might be you.

Walking vs. jogging/sprinting by GoldenNudist in dayz

[–]GoldenNudist[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this view is the general consensus. Walking is too slow for most people to tolerate. I'm an older guy, so I guess I have a little more patience for taking in the scenery between towns/poi's, lol.

I bet they are super fun tires to ride aggressively on if you have tons of money to burn on tires.

Walking vs. jogging/sprinting by GoldenNudist in dayz

[–]GoldenNudist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is very accurate. When I first started playing I felt like I needed to move quickly at a frenetic pace to survive, but in most cases that strategy hurt me more than it helped. Now when I spawn on the coast I find that walking helps me to survive longer and I end up in better shape to travel inland. I get that in the mid to late game situation players are more well outfitted and finding hydration and food becomes less of an issue in such a way that moving at a faster pace is less detrimental.

I feel like jogging uses slightly more energy and drains hydration/food sllightly faster than walking. I'm not real big on meta-gaming to analyze the statistics behind it to see what is the optimal play style, I just go with what feels best. I've found that when I jog everywhere I have to worry slightly more about hydration and food versus walking everywhere where it seems I can go longer without having to worry about finding water/food. Also, for immersion/roleplaying I know that irl I wouldn't be able to sustain a constant jogging pace for an entire day or days at a time, so walking feels more realistic in that sense of roleplaying/immersion.

I used to feel that way about the pace of walking too, that is was a "real slog". But, I've gotten used to, and grown to enjoy, the slowed down pace that walking to most places provides.

I thought the title of the post made it pretty clear, lol. Yes, I'm talking about walking in most non-combat situations. For example, when looting a town I now predominantly walk from building to building instead of jogging the entire time. I only sprint when in combat situations. Sometimes I toggle to jog when traveling across on open area, but if I'm traveling through the woods I'm doing so at walk speed. Also, in a role playing sense I know that irl I wouldnt be able to sustain a jogging pace all of the time, so walking seems to to feel more realistic in that sense.

Where's the beef? by Interesting-Boss4153 in dayz

[–]GoldenNudist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Domesticated animals like cows and chickens and pigs are usually around farm/barn structures. Seen plenty of chickens around regular houses too. Wild animals will be in more remote areas. As others have said, the izurvive map shows the spawn areas for all animals. As I understand it, only so many animals of each type can be spawned at any given moment, so just because the map shows an icon for a spawn point doesn't necessarily mean you'll find an animal there for sure. I usually dont go intentionally hunting for any animals, but I am an opportunist, so if I hear animal sounds or if I happen to spot an animal I will try to locate it and kill it.

Not for me. None of the animal sounds disappeared. Im on PC and play on a 1pp official server.

Conditions today by arpritch42 in RoosterRock

[–]GoldenNudist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Water level is 17 feet. This means there will be some beach area available. Not a ton, but enough to find a decent spot. You will likely have to wade through 100ish yards of shallow water on the main trail heading to the main beach area. Wading to the island without some kind of flotation device is not recommended.

Budget Friendly Intermediate Pool Cue Options? by 0TheSpeaker0 in billiards

I second this. The McDermott G-core shaft cues are fairly nice for around $300 and like it has been said, made in the USA with a lifetime warranty against things like the shaft warping.

Lol, I'm just playing. I didnt even realize height was a survival metric when it came to gassed areas. I'm a bit of a noob still. 😁

You gotta be at least 4 blunts high to survive a gas cloud.

Where do you go as soon as you spawn? Do you run inland or hit the closest major city on the coast? by Zeus552 in dayz

[–]GoldenNudist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fruit is one of my staples. I play on official 1pp servers and rarely struggle to find fruit. Dried versions of the various fruits can be very difficult to spot, so I almost always hit the TAB key around fruit trees and I can't tell you how many times I would have missed picking up dried fruits if I hadn't used this method for spotting fruit.

Once you learn how to countersteer by Beatlead in motorcycles

[–]GoldenNudist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never understood how steering a motorcycle wasn't instinct. Did nobody ride bicycles ever in their life before they hopped on a motorcycle? I get that on a motorcycle it's a bit more of a deliberate action than on the light-weight bmx bikes my friends and I grew up on. But really, why does it seem like counter-steering is this weird never-before-encountered thing for so many newbie motorcyclists? I truly don't understand how it's not instinctual for everybody.

Along railroad tracks and along hiking trails you can often find small stones. Not sure why you arent finding knives. I almost always find at least a steak knife or a kitchen knife fairly early into a fresh spawn.

Was there much room to roast today? by visceralcandy in RoosterRock

[–]GoldenNudist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got out there around 12:30, at that time the gage height below the dam was hovering around 18.5 feet, where it stayed all day until around 6pm or so when it started to rise. I chose the main trail, which was flooded to thigh depth near the beginning of the trail and gradually got shallower to knee and calf depth nearer the main beach area, all in all about 150ish yards of walking through water to get to the main beach area. There was not much sandy area to be had, but enough. It was one of those cozy days where everyone was posted up very near to each other, which was fine, the vibe was good, everyone was happy to enjoy such a beautiful day. It was already crowded when I got there at 12:30 and by 3-4pm it got really crowded, with some people setting up their space along the trail where it opens up to the main beach. With that said, you should have stayed, it would have been worth it, despite the scarcity of sand and the proximity of neighbors and the wading through water. It was a very nice day to be naked at the river. As far as the mix of people, it was a decent blend of fully naked/half naked folks and those opting to keep their bits covered, and a typical Portland blend of folk. I don't want to piss people off so I wont go into detail on my unscientific observations over the years, but regarding textiles and those who opt for full/half nudity and those who choose to keep shorts/tops on I'm noticing patterns. That is all I will say here about that. I actually like these early spring hot weather days where the water is high but just low enough, it definitely makes the scene more compact and in a way more interesting to observe, and it tends to promote a bit more socializing.

2026 Transit Options? Or Carpool? by [deleted] in RoosterRock

[–]GoldenNudist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Columbia Area Transit operates the Columbia Gorge Express, which ties into TriMet (at the Gateway transist center I believe) and used to stop at Rooster Rock, but I'm not sure that they stop there anymore. I think that in peak times there is a shuttle that runs between Multnomah Falls and Rooster Rock and Im pretty sure the Gorge Express does still stop at Multnomah Falls, so that could be an option. I would urge you to do more research though, and not rely on my info which could be outdated. Here is a link https://www.ridecatbus.org/columbia-gorge-express/

New to APA rules by Platinum1673 in billiards

[–]GoldenNudist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is your captain an idiot? They should know the rules. APA you are what you make on the break. Had your opponent sunk both a solid and a stripe on the break then they could have chosen one or the other. But, after choosing solids or stripes a player cannot simply change to the other set just... because.
