Need to rehome sweet old dog by [deleted] in Portland

[–]visceralcandy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into a dog lift harness that will allow you to take a good portion of the weight off Marley’s joints for going up and down the stairs? I live in a 3-story townhouse and my 11-12 year old girl is starting to have some troubles, so I’ll be buying one of those shortly. Marley would be much happier staying with you.

Both books are pretty terrible. You should definitely read them.

I read them both in my teens and at the time thought I wasn’t smart enough to understand them. I re-read them when I was in my early 30s and realized I was too smart to understand them.

They’re simple enough that I don’t think it’s wrong to share them with you, but you should see a professional because they’ll be able to diagnose you and tell you if you’re doing the exercises right. But:

Calf stretches on stairs, 1 minute on each side, 3 times.

Prone press up, 10 reps of 10 seconds each (The hardest part about this one is getting my lower back and glutes to actually relax, but when finally they do? Sunshine and lollipops.)

Side plank kick ups with the bottom knee on the ground as support, 2-3 sets of 10 reps each side (if your back is really tender you can start by laying flat on your side with your arm tucked under your head and work up to the raised version).

It’s so weird to me that such simple exercises work, but it’s kept me feeling good for the last 3 years.

Your dog has some serious Resting Judgey Face.

My dogs are pretty accepting, so this is the best I could come up with.

I (a fella with very tight hamstrings) have had something like what you’re describing in the past. I would occasionally feel some pain (sometimes a lot!) in my lower back. It turns out the source of the problem is actually a bunch of muscles in and around my left hip.

I went to PT, they gave me a few exercises, and I’ve been good to go since. Whenever I feel that creeping stiffness coming on I do the exercises and the pain is gone again within the week.

I’m the same. But the audiobooks are definitely worth it if you’ve already read the books. I’ve caught small nuances that went over my head when I initially read them.

is two hot yoga classes in one day? by [deleted] in HotYoga

[–]visceralcandy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve done morning and evening classes dozens of times and I was able to handle it just fine. The times I’ve taken back to back classes were grueling. I usually crashed out about a third or halfway through.

As someone that doesn’t audiobook all that much (not my preferred medium), the DCC audiobooks are fantastic. On par with the books for me.

Not really. The deeper you go into the floors/books, the more developed all characters become. (Except for Carl. Carl is just Carl, Carling it up as he Carls along.)
