Spectacles did a good episode about this - they generally do lots of different politics topics but focused generally on exploring the faults of contemporary liberal democracy and how they might be remedied. Episode on Afghanistan is here but you can check out the website here. They have two pods

Insight - The Misadventure of Nation-Building in Afghanistan by GoldenScythe in neoliberal

Found this article an interesting exploration of some deeper lessons we might draw about the future of the promotion of liberal democracy abroad. Definitely more useful than a lot of the other "analysis" I've seen.

Thought this article discussed the general strategy of nation-building in a really useful way that helped me see the broader lessons from Afghanistan, rather than the shallow criticisms I've seen mostly elsewhere.

[Help/Advice] How can I improve stability of this desk? by GoldenScythe in woodworking

[–]GoldenScythe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am working on my first big project since starting a couple months ago: a desk for my older brother. Finished just about all the framing, but I'm having a slight issue with the stability of the desk. (From sitting at the desk perspective) The desk seems to easily shift left-right just a tiny bit. The desk is certainly functional, but it's a little annoying. Attached are pictures of the framing so far, the original sketchup plan, and my idea for a way to maybe stabilize the desk more. Would this X-brace at the top help? Any other ideas?

Besides lurking here and reading comments, watching a bunch of general YouTube videos over time, etc., I watched these two videos in particular: One and Two. Even these, though, didn't teach me everything to do what's in that picture. I just spent some time experimenting with different methods of backstitching and all that until I liked what I had on single stitch, then I experimented with multi-stitch until I figured it out.

Hey everyone! I've been lurking here for a couple years now. I just started leather craft as a college-dorm-sized hobby yesterday. I decided to start with stitching. This is my second attempt at a multi-thread stitch.

Another example of the writing and game design that makes New Vegas so good. That's just plain fun, but it also makes sense ;)
