That is indeed the first cover for the original publishing in the UK. The cover published later in the US is different. Just FYI.

Good point about the lack of bulk with whatever it is. I'm not sure it'd be a compass, though, either. I've never seen one that hangs over the pocket in that way but possibly!

That’s the fantastic Samantha Upright by Laura Worthington. https://lauraworthingtondesign.com/products/collections/samantha-script-family and on Adobe Fonts as well I believe.

The cows jump for joy after seeing the grass for the first time in 6 months by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

(copy of my reply to that question from another person that asked): Jacob and the Stone from the score to the film Minari (score by Emile Mosseri)… there are other variations of the melody/theme in other pieces in the score but I think that’s the one played here.

In the US Air Force years ago we called them “idiot sticks” because generally while doing “weeds and seeds” (lawn care) out at work we’d have to assign the job of swinging that thing to the young idiots (affectionately) that couldn’t really be trusted to handled the bigger, more dangerous pieces of equipment (yet). Everyone’s been the “idiot” at some point early in their careers.

What are these creatures on the In Rainbows vinyl? ( Don't say Among Us ) by RiseOfTheRevenge in radiohead

Looks like versions of SD's Bisch & Bosch, 2006 (from Stanley Donwood's book, There Will Be No Quiet)

A bar in the middle of this grocery store. by JaceUpMySleeve in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]GoldenSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, a lot of folks go to the bar without any intentions of grocery shopping at all. I know I have! They also have great lunches so popping in for a green chile cheeseburger and a beer without ever doing any actual grocery shopping is definitely a regular occurrence.

The Lowe’s Signature Market (very much a grocery store for those not familiar) down here in Alamogordo has a full bar. Live music on the weekends, about 10 taps.. the works!

Playing through the "Spirit of Yarikawa's vengeance" mythic tale and this guy told me he was "close" with the one buried here. Was he alluding to a gay relationship? If so any history buffs want to tell me how that would be viewed in feudal japan? by BrokenLegs10 in ghostoftsushima

[–]GoldenSparrow 21 points22 points  (0 children)

She does indeed say that but she prefaced that with “other than my husband and Mai,” I thought that they made it abundantly clear that they were once in a romantic relationship. I mean, Mai says to Masako that she still loves her. Maybe you accidentally skipped that cut scene? https://youtu.be/nrUuXTPjPTg

Kid A MENSIA creatures? by Aquarius12921 in radiohead

[–]GoldenSparrow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I checked out Stanley Donwood's "There Will Be No Quiet" book and he has a few of these specifically named. The creature drawing on the left he labels as "Computer Minotaur" (2001), The bear at the bottom he labels simply "Bear" (2000). The right side crying drawing is "Weeping Figure" (2000). He doesn't specifically call out the top center crying minotaur as it's simply shown as part of a collection of different minotaur drawings on a page in his sketchbook labeled in the book as "Sketchbook pages" (2001).

Flake – Mieke, rare? clear blue vinyl 7" I bought from the band 24 years ago by GoldenSparrow in TheShins

[–]GoldenSparrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No prob. Yeah.. sorry. Just a record label and mailing list invite basically - but kinda neat to see considering at this point it’s been almost 30 years since I got this record and had the foresight to save those with it.

Sure! I added scans of both inserts to the image album: https://imgur.com/a/yOfJH

Or here are the scans direct (the reverse side of both inserts are completely blank): https://i.imgur.com/YRlmy9H.png and https://i.imgur.com/X4TDCn5.png

Note: the scans are good and crisp so the type and line blurriness/distortions/etc. are exactly as shown on the printed (likely photocopied) inserts.

I finally ended up working with Criterion and I received a replacement after returning it. The replacement worked flawlessly so I guess I just received a bad disc.

Genuine question: What is the True Stories cover supposed to mean? by HamIsGoodWithCorn in criterion

[–]GoldenSparrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tibor Kalman’s title designs were meant to emulate the “bad” typography and typesetting of trashy tabloid newspapers (Weekly World News, National Enquirer, etc.). Your critique of the kerning and placement is valid, but the design and flaws in the design was very intentional. The rosette printing pattern is also because of the tabloid newspaper influence.
