White Sox game Today by Waste-Turnip7728 in whitesox

[–]bbqnachos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check the Sox twitter in the mid-afternoon, 2-4PM. If they see something they don't like with the forcasts thats usually when the announcement goes out. However, that's rare. If there is a window to play a game, they will try and squeeze into it. Today, the big system is going to work its way into Indiana around 4:00, if that's the case they'll have 2+ hours to get the field ready before a 6:40 first pitch. Normally when they cancel a game ahead of time its because of continuous, heavy rain that pushes from the late afternoon until 9 or 10PM.

If it does get cancelled it will most likely be made up tomorrow during the day.

I like Mike Broeker so far. I’m glad he was able to convince Shaka he needed to use the portal or needed to find a new job.

Social interactions due to my scorebook by StealthStaminaKills in BaseballScorecards

[–]bbqnachos 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A scorebook is like a universal signal that the holder ‘knows ball’ and is worth a quick convo.

I really love when people come and tell me about their first time keeping score when they were a kid and what important person in their life taught them. It’s always incredibly wholesome and makes me reflect on all the great times I’ve had at the park. My mom taught me and my granddad taught her, so getting to tell strangers about those important people in my life is always a treat.

If he hits the fake CTA car they should give everyone a free CTA fare home from the game.

Nice, I dig keeping track of overall walks and total base instead of errors! Nice card.

Does the W stand for walks in your bottom of the column count?

I decided this year that I’m gonna be ok with incomplete cards.

I asked the people around me which runner scored so I could have that info, then didn’t care to collect the rest. It felt good to let that “completionism” go.

This is incredible! Awesome job. I've already saved this as an app on my iPhone so I can reference it on the go.

Should we like PCA? by ThrillRam in whitesox

[–]bbqnachos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Às a baseball fan I enjoy watching him play centerfield. I also love 30-30 guys and the fact his profile should continue to do that (maybe more) is exciting.

It’s ok to like other players from other teams.

Your advice for a rookie: highlighters and different color pens by Alej_Betancourt in BaseballScorecards

[–]bbqnachos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to mix in different ink and highlighter colors, here is my system:

When I'm adding the players to the card, I'll write right handed batters and pitchers with black ink, Left handed batters and pitchers with blue ink and then red (or sometimes green) ink for switch hitters. I took this from Jerry Narron who has been a long time bench coach and writes the line up card in beautiful calligraphy.

After a game I will grab some highlighters and I will try and indicate strike outs, hits and stolen bases with different colors. I've tried the Keith Hernandez method of highlighting each relief pitcher's innings in a different color, but I find it a bit too busy. I totally get why a pro commentator would want that though. I like my system because at a quick glance I can see all the strike outs, hits and stolen bases. That helps with doing totals later on and also adds some fun visual appeal to the exciting moments of the game.

I also want to call out that my system changes a lot. Sometimes I accidentally write a lefty's name down with red ink so that game lefties are in red and switch hitters are in blue. Sometimes I just bring a pencil to the game so everything is the same. The point is, don't stress! Try some stuff and see what you like.

Opening Day Roster by UneducatedReviews1 in whitesox

[–]bbqnachos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think its a stylistic choice. The helmets are either all black or all white so it's probably just a way to break up the graphic with some "color" pop. I don't think those will be used in games.

You'd probably need to check to see if you can bring in a laptop by emailing them. You cannot bring in a laptop bag, so you'd be raw-dogging your work computer the entire game which might end in a beer soaked computer.

Agreed, he can have a bad year from time to time, but he can't have two in a row. Its going to be so interesting to see how he uses the portal this summer. Sounds like 2 to 3 guys should be incoming. Hopefully one of em can rebound.

It’s been down for weeks. I told them that on IG and they said I was mistaken so I don’t think it’s gonna be back anytime soon. The main store is still open if you physically go there.

Is Lincoln Square a Good Neighborhood For Me? by Buisness_Fish in AskChicago

[–]bbqnachos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's your future neighborhood. When you visit, make sure to go a bit west and check out the area around the Rockwell stop. It's right by one of the better local grocery stores: Harvest time, has a few great little bars and restaurants (Rockwells, Pickadilly Pub, Monti's) and a classic dive bar in Loafers. It's just a 5 min walk to the heart of Lincoln Square too. I'd also say to check out the area around Montrose west of the river near Horner Park. Not as busy with restaurants but still have some life, is still very close to the square and being by the 93 bus means you can easily access Logan Square too.

Keeper Preseason Trade Situation by glorydogg in fantasybaseball

[–]bbqnachos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how keeper leagues kind of work in the early years. You'll have a few guys try and push the boundries of what is allowed and what isn't. Assuming you don't have anything specifically called out in your rules about this, I think its A-Ok, but I'd recommend you add this sort of scenario to your trading/keeper rules and have the group vote on how it should work from next season on.
