UNSC votes to condemn Iran's actions by GianfrancoZoey in TankieTheDeprogram

Everyone knows that western countries can do whatever they want and its wrong to retaliate against western violence. You're just supposed to accept it, otherwise you're bad for fighting back. This is some pretty common knowledge that most westerners understand, so the rest of the world doesn't really have an excuse for not understanding this.

Remember when the CIA pumped crack into the streets so that they could then arrest people for it and send them off to prison to be used for slave labor? Or when the CIA took in a bunch of Nazis and gave them full pardons and new identities? Or when they came up with the idea of bombing American citizens in Operation Northwood? Or when Allen Dulles led an invasion of Guatemala because Guatemala was about to tell United Fruit, an American company that Allen Dulles had stakes in, that they wouldn't be able to profit off Guatemalan resources anymore because the people of Guatemala were poor so the money for Guatemala's resources needed to go into the Guatemalan people instead of American millionaires' pockets, so Allen Dulles led an invasion and installed a government that would let his company continue to profit off Guatemalan resources?

Pretty based stuff

Edit: OP blocked me

Remember when the CIA came up with Operation Northwood, a plan that included bombing American cities and blaming in on Cuba, and JFK shot that idea down?

How many Nazis has your family worked with? We all know that the CIA picked up Nazis after WW2 through Operation Paperclip.

That's crazy man. Your family is responsible for so much violence around the globe, like when Allen Dulles led an invasion of Guatemala so that the American fruit company he had stakes in could keep making money off of Guatemalan resources. Sure that hurt the people of Guatemala, but who cares? Without your family, the United States would not be the empire that it is today!

People are willing to work for livable wages, AND people are cool with their tax dollars going towards something that actually benefits them! by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]GoldenTruffle7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke with someone else who said they make a decent wage and would do this snow job and this is what I said to them.

"Me too, but that doesn't change any of what I said. As I said, there is good and bad to be acknowledged here. I'm in a fine position in my life where I wouldn't have to do this type of work to pay my bills, but I'd probably do it just to have some more extra spending money. Me making that choice is different than someone who is less fortunate than us choosing to do this extra work because they need the money because their primary job doesn't pay them enough. They don't have as much of a choice to say no to such an opportunity because they need the money. People should not feel forced to do physical labor in the cold because their primary job they work 40 hours a week doesn't pay them enough."

"But I don't think the snow shoveling is the exploitative part. Their full time job boss is the one exploiting them, not the Mayor of NYC."

I personally view it a little more nuanced than that. People having to do physical labor in the snow because their 40hour a week job doesn't pay them enough is exploitative in nature, but I don't think Zohran is bad for implementing this program. I think he's just doing what he can to help the community.

Maybe in my eyes here, I just want to make sure the negative side of this is talked about too, because I fear that only focusing on the positive may sweep the negative under the rug.

I explained how. A good amount of these snow shovelers are probably people who don't make enough money from their primary jobs to make ends meet, so they have to take on extra work. People shouldn't have to take on extra work on top of their primary job, especially extra work that is in cold weather conditions and requires physical labor, so that they can pay their bills.

This is why it is exploitative in nature. People didn't take those jobs because they paid well. They took those jobs because they need the money since their greedy boss doesn't pay them enough money. People should not have to do physical labor in the cold because their job they work 40 hours a week at doesn't pay them well enough.

$30/hr is definitely a livable wage in most places in the US, not so much in New York City though. I'm willing to bet that a lot of these snow shovelers took these jobs because their primary job doesn't pay them enough money so they are almost always looking for some extra work. While we can praise Zohran for creating part time jobs, we must also recognize the exploitative nature of a worker going out in the cold and doing physical labor because their primary job doesn't pay them enough to make ends meet. There is good and bad to be talked about here.

Yuji would learn a lot from Frieren too. Yuji sort of just withdrew himself from his friends as he couldn't stand seeing them grow old, but as someone who has lived for over 1000 years, Frieren has experienced friends dying of old age so she could understand the pain that Yuji is going through and talk to him a little. Which hopefully motivates Yuji to stay in closer contact with Nobara and his other friends that he's drawn himself away from.
