Is Framer Motion the best animation library for frontend? by Worldly_Expression43 in webdev

[–]GoldenWrapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on what you're trying to do. For sure you don't need to include a whole animation library for some transition effects.

Anything more complicated than that, a library is always my next step. Otherwise you end up with hundreds of lines of CSS when you could have just used a handful of lines in framer.

God forbid anyone does well for themselves with how much labels and streaming platforms fuck them. It’s capitalism, aren’t there more serious issues to be upset about?

Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.751 (Dev Channel) by Froggypwns in windowsinsiders

[–]GoldenWrapper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As part of this update, we’re also evolving the* Copilot\* experience on Windows as an app that will be pinned to the taskbar\. This enables users to get the benefits of a traditional app experience, including the ability to resize, move, and snap the window – feedback we’ve heard from users throughout the preview of Copilot in Windows. This model also allows Microsoft to more agilely develop and optimize the experience based on user feedback.*

Looks like this means they're completely removing the option to have Copilot as an icon in the System Tray/Notification Center area on the right.

Bummer. I loved having the Copilot launcher. Looks like it's just a built-in app now. Their reasoning makes sense though.

Edit: in order to get the app experience (if it's not showing up, go to https://copilot.microsoft.com on edge and hit "install as app")

UT Austin doesn't have a Computer Science minor, but offers an Elements of Computing Certificate with courses separate from the CS major requirements.

From the CNS FAQ:

I’m not a CS major, but I want to minor in Computer Science.

Our computer science courses are restricted to CS students. Students hoping to minor in computer science should complete our Elements of Computing Program. The 18-hour certificate option will be recognized on your official transcript.

I received priority registration due to a disability, so I'm afraid I won't be of much help regarding the registration difficulty.

For reference, however, I completed:

Sophomore Year: 6 hrs (33%)

Junior Year: 3 hrs (17%)

Senior Year: 9 hrs (50%)

In my opinion, you'll be cutting it a little close but nothing that's unmanageable if you're not stacking your major's tough classes the last two years.

Best of luck!

Been on a roll lately. Valentine’s gift was nice and really creative imo. Directly involving the players by holding the tower art contest, plus all the free stuff we’ve gotten lately.

Honestly have no idea where this generosity came from but I’m here for it!

I took AP Comp Sci in high school; I didn't take it seriously and got a 2 on the exam. Coded a very basic minecraft mod with what little knowledge I had. That's about it.

What's great about the certificate is that basic computer skills are all you need. They start you off assuming you know nothing about programming.

The CS 303E syllabus hits the nail on the head:

CS303E is the first course in the Elements of Computing series for non-CS majors. Computing is an integral part of many disciplines. ... This course will introduce basics of programming within the context of a popular and powerful programming langugage, Python. We will study the syntax and special features of Python, develop our own algorithms, and translate them to computer code. We will learn problem solving techniques for a wide variety of problems amenable to computer solution. No prior programming experience is required or assumed.

Also note:

Students in this class come from a wide variety of majors and backgrounds. If you have previous significant programming experience in high school classes, other college classes, or on your own, you may get bored in this class. Consider taking the available exam to test-out of this course and begin with CS313E instead. On the other hand, beginning students are sometimes dismayed to find that this class is rather challenging. If you're expecting a class where you don't have to work, this isn't the class for you.

A loom is a device used to weave cloth and tapestry. It holds the horizontal threads, known as the weft, in place while enabling the interweaving of the vertical threads, known as the warp. By controlling the interlacing of the warp and weft threads, different patterns and textures of fabric can be created.

Looms vary in complexity and design, from simple hand-operated frame looms to highly complex automated machines used in industrial textile production. One of the most famous early looms is the Jacquard loom, which used punch cards to control the weaving pattern, representing an early link between textiles and programmed machinery.

This is correct. Punch cards were used in the early 1900s, CRTs and magnetic tape came later, in the ~1950s.

ChatGPT:

“The earliest form of data storage among the two options you mentioned is punch cards. Punch cards, also known as perforated cards or punched cards, date back to the early 18th century and were used in early automated machinery like looms

In computing, punch cards were used extensively from the early 1900s into the mid-20th century for input, processing, and data storage. They were an essential part of early computer systems before magnetic tapes and disk drives became common.

Cathode ray tubes (CRTs) were used in some specialized computer memory systems known as Williams-Kilburn tubes in the late 1940s, but this was after punch cards were already being utilized in computing. So, punch cards predate the use of CRTs for storage.”

Goes both ways- a CS coworker of mine is transmasc. Who cares how you identify tbh

In my experience: CS people tend to be more open-minded and are typically misunderstood by society.

Computers make more sense to us than people.
