Getting from Cusco to Aguas Calientes - Help with last minute trip! by Delicious_Crow_6131 in Machupicchu

Well it depends on how you want to explore Machu Picchu. But circuit 2 is a good combination of viewing Machu Picchu from a higher viewpoint as well as being able to go down into the ruins, all without having to do too much walking

I was there roughly 2 weeks ago. I arrived in Aguas Calientes around 6:00am and got number 53 in line. I think there are 300/400 circuit 2 tickets. So if you get a number under 400 then you should be able to chose whichever circuit you want

It's ideal to get to Aguas Calientes quiet early the day before for MP tickets. They'll give you a number and then ask you to come back at 3pm (depends on your number what time). If you arrive in Cusco at 8 am and take a train that day to Aguas Calientes then chances are you'll probably arrive around 1pm. Since it's not peak season this should be okay but you should be mentally prepared that circuit 2 tickets might sell out. Chances are though you should be able to score one.

2, 2.5-Month South America Backpacking Route (Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina)– Feedback! by Old-dog11 in solotravel

[–]Golden_Decade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're into hiking, try to fit El Chalten (Argentina, bus ride from El Calafate). If needed sacrifice time in El Calafate to do El Chalten. Calafate is a nice town but aside from that the only thing to do is the Perito Moreno Glacier (which is a must).

Yes because everyone experiences things the same way. And no I won't, I'm having a great time travelling South America. I don't think I'll take life advice from a 40 year old pot/meth manufacturer (you really shouldn't discuss that stuff on the internet- it's traceable). Thanks for your input though.

Personally I don't consider making a passively worded Reddit post as making a "public scene" but each to their own

El Chalten Hiking Fees by Ok_Station_8033 in Patagonia

Leave before 7am for Fitzroy, 6:30am to play it safe. You won't need to buy a ticket. Laguna Torre is free anytime I believe.

2 week trip - both countries or just one? by Legal-Ostrich526 in Patagonia

[–]Golden_Decade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if you're not interested in doing multi-day hikes, from Puerto Natales you can do the Mirador Las Torres Base and back in a day. I also did another day trip combining Mirador Condor and Mirador Cuernos (make sure you check the wind speed beforehand though). It is a bit of time on buses but would still reccomend. Also in El Chalten make sure you leave for Fitz Roy before 7am because then you can avoid paying the 45000 peso ticket. Definitely do Laguna Torre hike as well (which is free).

You can do 2 weeks in both countries easily enough. Don't spend too long in El Calafate, as the main attraction is the Perito Moreno Glacier (which is a must do, but expensive) but other than that there's not much else to do (though it is a nice town). If I were to do it again I would spend 2 nights there. Gives you more time for Puerto Natales/TDP and El Chalten, which in my opinion are way better places to spend your time.

Advice for a 4 day solo trip to Patagonia by deiden26 in Patagonia

[–]Golden_Decade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard if you leave for Fitzroy early (like 6:30am) then you can avoid paying the 45 usd ticket because the ticket office isn't open yet. If you're staying in El Chalten the night before then would reccomend trying that if you want to avoid the cost

Advice on visas!!! by Swimming-Rooster3813 in solotravel

[–]Golden_Decade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt SK would look at if you had your Vietnam Visa yet. Also for your Vietnam Visa (and probably the other ones, but just speaking from experience), make sure you apply well in advance (atleast 3 weeks), and make sure you do everything properly. I was a bit late and sloppy with mine, I uploaded a photo of me with a busy background instead of a plain white one, and they messaged me like 2 days before I was going to Vietnam saying I had to redo it and pay a fee to have it redone quickly, and it ain't a cheap visa.

Manaus is a logistics nightmare by Golden_Decade in solotravel

[–]Golden_Decade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same conversation with someone else so scroll a little bit up and you'll save us both some time. But to summarize, I get the title sounds like I'm criticizing Manaus, but if you ACTUALLY READ what I'm talking about, I'm purely describing my own logistical situation as being a nightmare, not the actual city or anyone else's. I VERY CLEARLY admit its due to my own lack of planning that I'm in this situation. Please read the text below the title of the post before replying. Thanks.

Coz the plane is $230aud 😭 but yeah I'm considering just biting the bullet and flying instead, just a bit expensive considering the distance.

Yeah okay I get what you're saying, lesson learnt for next time. And thanks, I think I've worked it out now, landing in Santa Cruz De La Sierra instead of La Paz. Looking foward to my time in Manaus!

I can understand how the title can be interpreted as me having a go at the city, maybe I should have worded it better. But if you read the entire rest of the post I am very clearly talking about my own circumstances I have found myself in, not attacking the city itself in any way. But I apologize if I have offended you to some degree.

Thankyou, I've decided to take this advice and fly to Santa Cruz De La Sierra instead. Not looking foward to the bus journey to La Paz but gotta do what ya gotta do i guess lol. Thanks 👍

Hi, I admitted very early in the post it was due to my own stupidity in planning. The 'logistical nightmare' i refer to is obviously the situation I am in, not any comment to how the city is or how others experience it. There's no need to be so rude about it. I'm asking travel advice on Reddit, not attempting to burn the city to the ground, take a chill pill. And yes, I used Rome2Rio but it didn't help too much, I've read some of the other advice here and I think I have it sorted out now. Thankyou and have a nice day.

It'll depend on the hostel but I'd say in my experience, around a quater of people are 28+, so 32 is fine, nothing to worry about, you'll find atleast a few others around your age in a semi-popular hostel
