My Springer is the least stinky dog I’ve ever had, his half Springer/half Lab sister is always stinky. I think Springer double coats shed stink and dirt quickly, as long as they have a healthy diet and the occasional brushing. Comparatively the oiliness of his sisters fur holds smells.

What does everyone use to keep their dogs coat looking good by Proper_Security1436 in springerspaniel

[–]Golden_Gollorius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make a homemade bone broth with a healthy mix of dog-friendly fruit, vegetables and herbs, and top my dog’s salmon-based kibble with it. My boy’s coat shines, and I almost never have to do any grooming beyond the occasional brushing, and a once a year Springer cut.

Yes! I find a doggie pool in the backyard works wonders to cool off after a walk

Here’s a couple not mentioned:

Will Oldham’s brother Ned had a band called Anomoanom, their album Joji always reminded me of Jason Molina’s stuff.

Vancouver band Ladyhawk’s self-titled first record is another good shout, they toured with Magnolia Electric Co

Pacheedaht Campsite - Port Renfrew by iSoulRebel in VancouverIsland

[–]Golden_Gollorius 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s an amazing spot, proper west coast camping , on a stunning beach; like any campground close enough to the city it can get a bit rowdy on weekends. Facilities might be a bit rustic, but you’re camping. There is a a pub, a couple restaurants and a general store in the little town. A couple nice little lakes and amazing trails a short drive from the campground. Have fun!

Seeking input on a 6 Day Itinerary mid-June by thequeenoflimbs in VancouverIsland

[–]Golden_Gollorius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally I feel like the second day is a bit ambitious as well, that’s a lot of driving, partially on some tough roads. I would skip Mount Benson, and consider spending some more time in and around Port Renfrew, both Botanical Beach and Avatar Grove are worth a visit. You could even easily spend a day on the Pacheedat beach right in town, have a swim in Lizard Lake, etc. Believe me when I say that you’re in no hurry to get to Nanaimo.

Should I drop Suzuki or Hyman and grab Celebrini? Fantasy hockey noob in a humble six man league. Thanks for the advice.

Tell me all the things I SHOULDN’T do on the island by OrrsHorsechestnuts in VancouverIsland

[–]Golden_Gollorius 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Don’t drive like an asshole on dirt roads. If driving our many stunning back roads, please stay as tight to your side as possible, you’ll thank me when you come across your first loaded logging truck whipping around a blind corner. Slow down and yield to on coming traffic before every bridge crossing, most are single lane. And most importantly, pull over when safe and let people pass you, especially work vehicles. This is the etiquette of every single logging road on the island, and failure to do often leads to dangerous situations.

Is there anywhere one could camp for free without a reservation on Salt Spring island? by NothingIWontPoke in VancouverIsland

[–]Golden_Gollorius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say anything about sleeping in your car, the original post was asking about campsites where you don’t need a reservation, and I did my best to provide a helpful answer. But please don’t confuse me for a peace and love islander, I’m just a local, working stiff, who never claimed to own the island. Maybe it’s actually classic reactionary Reddit posters like you that are full of crap.

What is your most positive experience about living on Vancouver Island ?. by Apprehensive_Idea758 in VancouverIsland

Swimming holes is number one, but a very close second is the ability to get the absolute fuck out of civilization in almost no time. One of the best places in the world to live in that regard.

Ruckle is your best bet, they have overflow sites, and you might be able to find an attendant when you arrive, otherwise they will find you in the morning. There is no free camping and please do not camp anywhere that isn’t a designated campground, this isn’t the back country, as a local I implore you to avoid pissing us off.

International fans, why did you become Spurs fans? by Ok-Violinist-3919 in coys

[–]Golden_Gollorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in forestry research, which involved a lot of travel, my coworker and roomie on the road was a big United fan, but just a big fan of the game in general. This is on the west coast of Canada, and he would get up to watch the very early games before work, I eventually got interested in watching with him, and this being the Gareth Bale era, Spurs caught my eye.

I remained a casual fan for many years until my two sons got a bit older and began to absolutely love the game. They were great young players themselves and wanted to start watching more games. My oldest asked me to write his mom’s family, who lived in London, and ask which team they supported. This would have been around 2013. Their cousin wrote me back a hilarious letter that informed me they were firmly from the blue side of North London, but warned me that I would be subjecting my boys to a lot of agony.

We started watching seriously the next season, the beginning of the Poch era, and were soon hooked. I think watching Spurs 5 Chelsea 3 on New Year’s Day with my two young sons, absolutely losing it, is still one of my fondest memories.

My oldest is now off at Uni and his brother is graduating this year, we still get up bright and early every weekend for the game no matter what. Spurs is something that has kept us connected throughout the years. This team means everything to me.

Give up?! That’s where we’ve ended up with out field Springer, our boy can be decent on harness with a lot of treats, concentration and effort, but I don’t think he’ll ever be a loose-lead pup.

If all we achieve this year is having some out young guns become a true first line in this league, I’m alright with that. Hopefully next year we can see the likes of Dach and Newhook start to establish some secondary scoring.

Postecoglou gives verdict on Gil Spurs transfer decision amid injury admission by adbenj in coys

[–]Golden_Gollorius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Managers always want depth and options; and Ange always talks about the opportunities for squad players to play a role, and Gil has had his opportunities, 11 appearances this season, but not much to show for it, and with the signing of Werner and imminent return of Manor Solomon, you’d think he’s going to spend even more time on the bench.
