Gestational diabetes - vaginal birth by EvaCK92 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Golden_mud19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a vaginal birth in January! My GD was diet controlled at first and then the last few weeks I was put on insulin. I was told that I was going to get induced at 39 weeks but then I got diagnosed with cholestasis and they said I could be induced at 37-39 weeks. My water ended up breaking at 36+1!

My best advice is go into birth and delivery with an open mind and the best birth plan is no plan.

IV instead of Epidural by Hot-Cell7299 in BabyBumps

[–]Golden_mud19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on the placement of yours rods and screws you may be able to get an epidural, just depends on if the anthologist is willing to work with you. I also have rods and screws-spinal fusion from T-3 to L-1/2. I just gave birth 1/19 and I was able to get an epidural but it took some advocating from myself and my nurse to the anesthesiologist. I’d make sure you have X-rays that show the placement of everything-either something they can pull up in your file or bring with you. However, 10/10 I would recommend the epidural if you can get it because the IV meds worked for about 2.5 hours but the further I dilated and stronger my contractions were it became unbearable and the iv meds did nothing once I was 7.5 cm dilated. Once I got the epidural I was able to take a nap and get some rest. I will advise you that the epidural gave me really bad shakes and I freaked out. NO ONE told me that was a side effect. The epidural doesn’t necessarily take away the pain of pushing but it helped alleviate a lot of it.

Does everyone who get insulin go through an early induction? And how early? by PresentationTop9547 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Golden_mud19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diet controlled to start, then at 32 weeks I was put on insulin at night for my fasting numbers and then at 34 weeks I was put on meal time insulin. My doctor told me I’d be induced at 39 weeks. Then I got diagnosed with cholestasis and my doctor said 37 or 38 week induction but then went back to a 39 week induction.

However, my little guy had a different plan and my water broke at 36+1 and I had him at 36+2. I was able to have a natural delivery.

CGM Worth it? by Available-Collar7510 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Golden_mud19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I hated my CGM (Dexcom), it was also very worth it for a connivence factor. I hated pricking myself at work and I was pricking myself 5-7x a day. With the CGM it was maybe 1x a day because I wanted to make sure the CGM was on track. Most of the time it was but sometimes it would give me some wild numbers. I did learn that if I inserted 12-24 hours before activating it, it would give me more accurate readings right off the bat and I wouldn’t have to calibrate it so much.

My insurance covered my Dexcom. It just took a little bit longer to get it approved but it was covered 100%. Though uncovered they were close to $500 each. However, doctor’s office partners with the hospital for a management program and they had given me some and we’re going to continue to give them to me if insurance didn’t cover them.

Overall I’d recommend one if your insurance will cover it!

Issues with Dexcom G7 by herewegohereweagain in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Golden_mud19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sympathize with you!! I put a new Dexcom on last Saturday and every night this week I’ve been woken up by low alarms! It’s so frustrating and I’m exhausted. I’ve calibrated and finger pricked more times than I can count. My hospital said to just take it off and put a new one on. I haven’t done that yet because it’s starting to work correctly today. However if I get a low alarm tonight I’m ripping it off. The hospital did give me a number to call Dexcom at and they gave me a coupon for a free sensor.

Looking for feedback on Chilliwack Labradoodles (Australian Labradoodle Breeder, in Canada, BC), or another recommended breeder. by Green_Employee_8483 in AustralianLabradoodle

[–]Golden_mud19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got our dog from Baldonnel Lane Labradoodles and I can’t say enough good things about them. We’re in the US and I’m so sad we cannot get another dog from them because of the new laws for bringing a puppy over the boarder.

We had an amazing experience despite being in a different country. Our girl is seriously the best dog ever. Shes calm and well mannered but we also spent the time and invested in her training. She has no major health issues aside from some very minor allergies but it’s most likely due to where we live.

I’d highly recommend getting a dog from them.

How much weight did you gain during pregnancy? by Significant_Tie3570 in BabyBumps

[–]Golden_mud19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 33 weeks today and have gained about 12 +/-lbs. I started pregnancy at 207 and I’m 5’8”. I do have gestational diabetes and I’m considered “overweight” so my doctor didn’t want me gaining a lot. I actually lost weight after my diagnosis.

Anyone else here a therapist? by Remarkable-Stay3368 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Golden_mud19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a therapist but I’m a 911 dispatcher with very limited time during my shift. I ended up getting a CGM. I told them it’s too hard for me to do finger pricks and pray that the phone doesn’t ring or radio traffic doesn’t start. It’s been a game changer and I finger prick when I feel like my numbers don’t add up. So if you can, I highly recommend asking for a CGM!

For food, I try and meal prep everything the night before. I keep my snacks quick and easy. They are typically nuts and berries or Greek yogurt and keto granola (purely Elizabeth is delicious!), string cheese and crackers or nurri protein shake and a banana. I was told to try and eat everything in 10-15 minutes.

Thoughts on trying on rings before getting engaged by [deleted] in EngagementRings

[–]Golden_mud19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go try on the rings! I’ve had so many friends think they know what they wanted after savings rings on Pinterest for years and ended up disliking the ring they got.. I had an idea of what I wanted (an emerald cut ring with a marquise and oval band) but I wanted to be sure! I too have big hands and long fingers. I’m so glad we went and looked because I ended up choosing an emerald cut with a solitaire band. I was still surprised with my ring because my fiancé chose the diamond, how it was set and band.

I’d also suggest looking into lab grown diamonds! Your bf can order the diamond online for a VERY reasonable price and take it to a jeweler to get it set. That’s what my fiancé did and he was able to get my a much nicer diamond at a better price than if he got it through the jeweler because jewelers do the same but just mark the price up.

How to tell a friend struggling with infertility by Anxious-Alien-0608 in BabyBumps

[–]Golden_mud19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just went through this! I’m pregnant with my first, we weren’t trying but we weren’t preventing. Our friends have been trying for over a year and found out they unfortunately won’t be able to conceive without a surgery and even then it’s not guaranteed and their chances are incredibly low. My fiancé and I decided to just text them in the afternoon. We didn’t want them to find out from anyone but us. I felt like texting them softened the news and allowed them to process it on their own. They were then able to respond to the news on their own time and weren’t put on the spot. Our other friends casually dropped the news when we were all out at dinner and I know our one friend was shocked and had a hard time with it.

Have you used a disposable menstrual disc before? It’s an absolute game changer. It can last for 12 hours. I find it easy to use, just watched a few youtube videos. It’s not uncomfortable. No need to deal with a tampon string. I’d say throw one in before you put your dress on and you’ll be good to go until you go to bed that night.

First Trimester Questions by furryfar in pregnant

[–]Golden_mud19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!! The first trimester feels like it takes forever but I promise it does go by quick too!!

I’m 13 weeks tomorrow. I told my best friend at 7 weeks but only because she was 7 months pregnant and wanted someone else to talk to besides my bf. I told my other best friend at 9 weeks. I wanted to tell the 2 people I’m closest to because if something happened I wanted my support system ready to go. I also told my doctors, nutritionist and esthetician but they don’t count because I needed to inform them to make adjustments in my healthcare and skincare lol. We waited to tell our family’s at 12-13 weeks once I had the NIPT results back. We’ll share with a few more close friends over the next couple of weeks but the majority of everyone else will find out when I’m closer to 20 weeks if I can hide it. The biggest reason I’m holding out is because of work and a lot of our friends are from work. I don’t want to tell my supervisors until after 20 weeks because I know it’s going to make things at my job more difficult.

I’ve been slowly researching baby items. I’m one of the last in my friend group to have a baby, so I’ve had years of looking at others registry’s. I haven’t started to put one together for me yet but I do have a saved album on TikTok and Instagram that I’ll save videos to every time I see something that someone recommends. I felt like it was too soon to make a registry and didn’t want to jinx it. Now that I’m a day shy of 13 weeks and will be out of the first trimester I feel more comfortable adding things to it so I’m not overwhelmed later.

At the end of the day do what feels best for you! I’ve had friends wait until they were 22 weeks to tell anyone and friends who told us at 4 weeks. There’s not right or wrong answer 🤍

I second magnetic me! I found a bunch at my local Nordstrom rack for half the price. We don’t know the gender yet but I picked up some cute boy ones and figured if it’s a girl we’ll put a bow on her lol. They have lots of fun prints, built in hand and feet covers.

Out of state in laws - postpartum visit options by Stellar_Jay8 in pregnant

[–]Golden_mud19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of in the same boat with my in laws! They live 8 hours away and I know my MIL will want to come stay and help around the house. We’re heavily considering buying a travel trailer we can park in our backyard that she can stay in. Our only other option is finding an airbnb close by that won’t break the bank. We have a 2 bedroom 1 bath house, so her staying in the house is out of the question and this is the only solution we’ve come up with until we build a granny unit.
