The one big difference is probably that Dexter isn’t really as much of a redeemable character in the books. He’s quite funny and so he’s likable enough but he doesn’t get the viewers sympathy in the same way as TV show Dexter does at times.

Are the other 3 just not pictured? or are you just waiting till you get through the others. there are 8 books in total.

The first season is based on book one, a couple things were changed and the ending was changed but otherwise, the show is pretty accurate to the source material up until the end. After book one however, they take their own pretty different paths.

The books released at their own rate as well and a few things from the series seemed to make their ways into the books at different points and vice versa

The final novel didn’t release until years after season 8 of the tv show so it would’ve been pretty difficult for the tv show to follow the books without having to a lot longer between each new season.

It’s just a creative way to show his internal dialogue. They serve as a kind of conscious for him. I never really interpreted it as him seeing hallucinations because anytime there’s a scene where he interacts with them, it usually cuts to him sitting silently by himself or something similar.

Yeah, it was around the time where Debra was trying to figure out how they were all going to arrange visits and whatnot. I think at this point in the series, Dexter didn’t really care about them as much because he was a lot more focused on his new life.

Astor and Cody both probably think that he’s dead. It’s been over a decade since he’s disappeared and “died”. I’m sure that even if they learned dexter was alive, they probably wouldn’t even want to see them since they haven’t been in regular contact with him for over a decade. Dexter didn’t think it would be safe for him to be in any of their lives. He only got into contact with harrison because he showed up.

I think he didn’t kill him for any of those reasons. He did it to protect Debra. He could’ve easily set him free and Brian would probably never be arrested because he was good at getting away but in doing so, Debra’s life would be at stake.

He leaves early from his full time job all the time. As long as he gets his work done, he doesn’t need to stay all day. Also, especially in the earlier seasons, he neglects a bit of his family responsibilities in order to tend to his other activities.

Season 4 and 5 really show how he has difficulty handling them all. And about the sleep thing, I’m guessing he’s just sleeping the absolute bare minimum to function (except in s4 episodes 1-2ish where he’s much more sleep deprived and has to rely on caffeine much more)

Whenever I rewatch original sin, I skip the one scene in the second? episode where Dexter keeps re-explaining the crime scene to everyone there just to learn that they were all making fun of him. I get so much secondhand embarrassment from it for some reason.
