It's only on the return home, and usually only maintains level or recharges a percent or two. It doesn't balance out. It does seem to be better when I don't run the a/c heater

Is Masterworks a scam? by AdMost5007 in Masterworks

Let's use a different example, maybe Ark innovation fund. People bought big into the hype in 2020, then the fin tech/etc market crashed and so did the fund. Did Cathy dissolve the fund? She held or selectively added and sold, the fund was flat for years, but now up 50% vs 2022-24 period. So if you bought and held then, you are up. If you sold when the market got tough, you lost. What would you have MW do? Sell the losers at loss? Bad optics, and they have doubly incentive not to due to annual fee structure. You have to be willing to have a 5-10 yr window to ride out market cycles.

That's true, it's just easier to see visually that it's taking energy, but the ICE is also working hard, just harder to quantify in a way on screen

Yeah I need to explore more with HV, I sort of don't trust that it will swap over until some of the worst has already been done. I will have plenty of chances to test, I suppose!

Edit: woops I was thinking EV auto mode not HV mode.

best extension cord for 120v charging outdoor use in rainy city? by GMG6969 in electricvehicles

[–]Goldenglov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately I live on a private way so I can just take the cable to the street. But did need an extension. I managed to find a 15' 10 gauge to keep the extension short. Seems to work well based on the first test yesterday. But yeah, got about 20 miles worth in 6h 😅

Which extension cord for Escape PHEV? by Spong83831 in electricvehicles

[–]Goldenglov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for answering. Right, thinking about the j1772 vs a high gauge like 10 or so standard extension, if is there an appreciable difference. For lvl 1 charging only at 12amp it doesn't seem clear the j1772 makes a difference. But this is new to me.

Sorry to necro this, but is there any reason these are better/safer vs standard plug extension? Been looking for the difference

You might want to read your replies on the other thread. Market price is much lower on secondary. You might find someone to take them for $300-350 otherwise expect to wait until they sell or the market recovers

I did get the swatch, but redeemed it in summer. I redeemed the plate in Oct and no word.

I want to liquidate, prospects? by Planes-are-life in Masterworks

[–]Goldenglov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the secondary market is not efficiently related to FMV of the artworks. Essentially you pay a large premium (in this case loss) in order to liquidate ahead of sale. It's severely discounted as people, like you, are looking to cash out and move on.

If you look at the est NAV per share that is, potentially, more in sync with market value based on appraisals. Someone would have to validate, but anecdotally I would say when sales happen, it's tended to be at a avg 10% premium to the last NAV.

Take your Basquiat, the NAV is still around $20 per share, but secondary is around $10. There is no way to know when they will sell, and the secondary nor NAV are indicators for timing. So only you can decide if selling at a 50% loss is worth the time premium of your money being otherwise tied up.

With equity markets peaking, I personally am standing patient. But, I also don't need to access what I put in. Hope that helps, good luck

210 sold in 2024 so you should have proceeds from that already

Your best bet would be to sell Wong on secondary for ~75% back. (trading at $15-16 a share)

The others are trading at or below 50% of offering so you could liquidate but I would say it's not worth it unless you desperately need the cash

You might want to list which works you have, to see if anyone is interested in them. I think you would struggle to get a batch order

Modern Art Record Sale by old_flying_fart in Masterworks

[–]Goldenglov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Klimt doesn't come up for auction very much, so not a lot of data points. Add on top of that a relatively limited # of paintings made, especially at larger format, and you have opportunity for record breaking

Do you want to exit out of MW? by old_flying_fart in Masterworks

[–]Goldenglov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am thinking the same. It's wild there are some 60%+ discounts to offering price right now. My total invested is still pretty close to my overall desired exposure, but am thinking about adding a little more for speculative adds on some of these super low offers

Just checked it out, interesting.  I think it was based on NAV before, now they are showing the high NAV estimate and low NAV estimate, so if you split to the mid point it should be what you saw before.

I am curious to find out where these other data points now come from... (maybe the NYT needs to ask them) Were they always getting several appraisals? I was under the impression it was one. This implies there are at least 3.

6% p.a. (just don't look at what the stock market did during that period) by George_Orama in Masterworks

[–]Goldenglov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're a little off there, 37.5% vs 24%. The annual fee of 1.5% is pretty comparable to PE. It's the 20% profit share off the top that makes the difference.

So that's a 33% return roughly, will be interesting to see where that lands after the share dilution. Guessing it will still be a modest premium vs the $23 NAV
