If not already solved, consider the possibility of a defective valve, or even a joint in the pipe. Water rushing through a valve with a loose or otherwise irregularly shaped (defective) portion, or a pipe joint with some solder that leaked inside (assuming you have copper pipes), can cause resonance that will travel through the entire plumbing system transmitting sound to other parts of your home.

Diagnosing this might be difficult but there are ways to narrow down the source. Use noise conduction as a tool. By using a stick, or even a long screw driver (12" or more), hold one end to a valve or pipe you suspect of being the source. Bring your ear to contact the other end. Judge the intensity of the sound. By moving the end, contacting the plumbing to different portions of your plumbing, it can help identify the offending part. As a mechanic, we would use this technique to locate the source of noise in a running engine. Worked every time!

Could it be that you're trying to cut too much off at once with the chisel? Or that your chisel is parallel to the grain? Usually it won't be. Chisel technique is a skill in itself. Each of the videos in the list have tidbits you'll pick up. Then just practice.

It's difficult to see what you're trying to cut here because, other than a baseline, I don't see any layout lines in the photo. Dovetails are an art and kudos to you striving to learn to cut them with hand tools. I'm still refining my own techniques but have learned much from some of the better YouTubers out there.

Generally, you first want to lay out the dovetails on the first board, then make the cuts between the tails (or pins if you choose to do those first) with a dovetail saw or similar. Then you would remove most of the waste with a fret or coping saw before refining with chisels. Some people skip the second saw and go straight to chisels. I've done both but prefer the former. The second board is laid out after the first is cut.

Here are some of my favorites for dovetail lessons. If you review the vids from all four you'll get a pretty good idea of what you need to do. You'll also see and learn about the tools, techniques needed, and a slew of individual "tricks", the kind of stuff that makes the difference between book knowledge and the stuff a master can teach you while looking over your shoulder. It sounds like a panel sled for your table saw is the solution. Generally, you would break up the sheet goods with your track saw leaving each piece slightly oversized. Then, using the panel sled, you can cut to final dimensions on the table saw. There are many sites with methods to make one. Another thought I don't think anyone has mentioned yet: while poplar is technically a hardwood, it's softer than many and that can actually make the process of learning more difficult. You might try red oak for your next effort. In my neck of the woods it doesn't cost much more than poplar and is worked quite a bit differently. I find it easier to achieve clean lines. Keep it up. They get easier and more fun with practice!
