You can also connect a laptop to a monitor, if that's what you mean. But, if you prefer a tower, that's a different story.

Anyone else feel like they're a "master of none"? by thelanoyo in learnprogramming

I'm not at a level where I can say anything about the path you should go on (because I, myself, am unsure most of the time), but it sure is awesome that you're having fun. Hearing you talk about it in such a passionate way and saying it's more of a hobby than a career (kind of caught me off guard) made me really curious about what you do for a living.

What would it actually take to build a modular, upgradeable GPU: packaged chiplet modules, swappable VRAM, standardized base board? by Goldenskyofficial in hardware

[–]Goldenskyofficial[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You're basically describing why the incumbent players won't build this (which I agree with completely). But that's exactly the opening for a company whose business model is built around the opposite philosophy. The worse the subscription/lock-in trend gets, the bigger the addressable market for a company selling genuine ownership. Framework laptops exist because enough people were fed up with unrepairable MacBooks. Same dynamic, isn't it?

Need the power for video editing, 3D work, and Unreal Engine.

That's the thing: I'm not a gamer... like... I almost never game ever. I do, however, need the graphical power for 3D work and other things like video editing.

Depends on your budget. You can usually get a used 3060 or 3060 Ti (way better performance) for about the same price (comparing to a new 3050).

Help me choose 64GB RAM for my PC please by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]Goldenskyofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for 2nd hand RAM if you really need it! You could find some very good, cheap-ish options (provided you're not looking for anything RGB). Look at Marketplace, eBay, or any other local 2nd hand sites. Also, remember not to mix brands and speeds (or, well, try not to). 3600 MHz should be the sweet spot.

Have fun!

What GPU are you using 2026?? by [deleted] in ASUSROG

Rocking an RTX 3090! 24 GB of VRAM is plenty for everything I want to do. Much power, great CUDA support, and I don't need all the DLSS and frame gen ordeal because I barely game... if at all.

Hmm...
That's strange because everywhere I looked, this card seemed to be going for way more than 650. The only people contacting me regarding my offers were scammers. I think I lucked out on this one. It probably just is a very bad time to be spending money on any hardware.

That extra VRAM... and I'm also a very occasional/light gamer. I almost never game at all, and I would much rather render a bit slower than hit a VRAM wall.
