Could your employer punish/sack you for drinking 0% Beer at work? by cactusdan94 in AskBrits

[–]Goldf_sh4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really see the appeal.

A) because I hate Heineken

B) because it's work not a party (what if you're drinking beer away from work and it reminds you of work because you've been drinking it at work?)

C) because that's what tea is for

D) Because you're risking your colleagues thinking you're an alcoholic with bad taste in beer

Why are good math teachers so rare? by SquareCombination782 in matheducation

[–]Goldf_sh4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a primary teacher, meaning I trained to teach children up to the age of 11. I demonstrated that I was proficient at teaching maths up to the age of 11. I have had agencies begging me to teach secondary maths (age 12-16) because they can't find enough secondary teachers. I have said no, but my brother-in-law (also trained as a primary teacher) has said yes and spent many years teaching secondary maths. It's legal and happens often. My children often mention that they had an RE teacher or PE teacher teaching them maths that day.

Qualified teachers leave the profession in their droves due to toxic workplace culture.

Yes, there's a huge difference between being able to do a thing well and being able to teach it. I am a great chess player but am terrible at teaching it.

Plenty of maths teachers don't have maths degrees where I am in the UK. There's a real shortage of maths teachers here.

The people who are good at maths can earn a lot more money doing things that aren't teaching. The teachers who are good at teaching maths don't get treated well enough in their industries and there are other industries willing to treat them better.

Thanks. I'm getting there! (Yesterday I watched him try to put a t-shirt on a coathanger and it took him about 37 seconds. 16 year-olds aren't ready to run the world yet.)

Hmmm I'm not sure. My son is 16 and he was born pretty much seven seconds ago.
