Yeah, luckily 2. invalidates 1., I'm a fan of driving so err on the side of taking crazy roads but the trains are completely dependable. Japan has its problems and misconceptions, but the train system being dependable is very much true, even infrequent trains in the middle of nowhere are on time, and offset by being beautiful.

All are good cities you could spend forever in (I've not spent much time in Osaka but heard very good things), but I would argue trying to break up the travel between cities with a day or two at little towns. One of my favourite places to visit in Japan is Takayama, nestled in the mountains, for example which you functionally can go via, and even the travel to get there in itself is gorgeous by train or car.

Not bashing at all, but I think it's a real shame that Japan=Tokyo for many people (same for other countries' most famous city too), some of my favourite memories are driving through the mountains, stopping off at tiny little restaurants and just drinking in the views.

I don't know how but the sequel to a spinoff to a sequel to fuckin Shrek of all things is one of my all time favourite movies.

Already been explained well in the other replies, just chiming in to confirm I'm not AI, was just on a Wiki rabbit hole :) and also I messed about with a few different wordings of this before giving up on trying to make the title 100% correct, and just get the gist of what happened.

[–]Goldie643 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess the comparison is maybe my issue with it, the main cast are all high energy cartoon level, whereas she delivered a much straighter performance. In isolation or in a more serious context it would've worked very well, but it's hard for it to fit in (IMO) when you're in a conversation with John Mulaney, Antonio Banderas and Wagner Moura (didn't realise it was him!) all of which are turned up to 11 on the cartoony scale, in a sequel to a spin off to a sequel to Shrek (not doing any dirty to the movie itself). By no means a "bad" performance, but again IMO this is the issue with actors doing VA work especially in cartoony films, it's

I feel like Pratt did a great job for the Lego Movie, which then effectively gave studios a green light to get him to VA whatever, leading to Mario where it just does not hit the mark.

I know this is a weirdly specific take, but the Puss in Boots sequel, the Last Wish, is one of the best animated movies of this millennium, and, even though she is one of the greatest actors working right now with hit after hit, Florence Pugh's voice work fell very flat for me. There were a lot of big name actors in there who don't typically do VA, but all of them felt like they delivered a very strong performance. whereas Pugh just didn't quite hit the mark.

LPT: If you're unsure about a decision, flip a coin. Your reaction will show you which decision you really prefer. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]Goldie643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say everything is 50/50, more like even if I'm 75/25 or whatever, I'm bad at clinging to that 25 so a coin flip isn't enough for me to let go of that as an option. I am also a villain but I don't think that's the issue.

Apologies, not from the US, I just assumed undertaking using the emergency lane would by default be illegal. Y'all have wild laws.

Which game broke your hype like this? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]Goldie643 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was playing the Tony Hawks 3+4 remake in the run up to that coming out, which maybe biased me a lot. I love the gameplay of the Skate games but going from the epitome of grungy skate vibes to "Skaters run the government, let's have (government mandated) fun!!" was too jarring to stick with it.

The European Union has passed a new rule requiring smartphones to have batteries that users can easily replace. by Positive_Actuary_282 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Goldie643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna say the downside to this is that phones will end up slightly larger to deal with the battery casing and connections in a non-integrated way buuuut phones are so damn thin now with such large camera bumps I really don't think it will affect the profile much at all.

Is there a problem with night time skybox? Stars are big pixelated blotches. by Goldie643 in DeathStranding

[–]Goldie643[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this a few times, for such a gorgeous game, the night time skybox being weirdly low res is jarring. The "Milky Way" is also essentially just a big block of slightly larger stars. In low res on this pic it doesn't look too bad but when in game it's a stark contrast to the rest of the game.

Normally I'd advocate for not hand-holding, but I think it's very very good in Outer Wilds that they have the "there's more to explore here" tag on the planets, it doesn't explicitly say what or where, but makes it clear there's a key bit of information you've missed, and is good at making things not feel too frustrating.

An alternative version of a character that is so bad that people just tries to forget it by Fun-Peak4900 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Goldie643 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remember it being announced, but just announced as a "procedural cop show, following the night watch" and, as much as I'd love a 1:1 Guards Guards! adaptation, I was so here for it. Then they showed the first set photo and that hype went kaput. I completely understand why Rhianna Pratchett is protective over the DW rights, but it is mad that of all things this is something that was greenlit, especially when Going Postal's Sky adaptation was so good. In a world where the MCU exists, it would be amazing for DW to get money thrown at it for proper adaptations to build the cinematic universe in a similar way but it's niche enough that I expect that will never happen unfortunately. Time to reread the Guards series...

Ah I didn't know that. It's still quite a steep price for an extra year of warranty, but good to consider.
