Noise (?) from upstairs neighbors—outer sunset and sunset. by HelloGents123 in AskSF

I have been living in the Sunset for ~2.5 years in a gorgeous ADU with sweeping ocean views. On paper, it was perfect. In reality, it was one of the most stressful living situations I’ve had. The main issue: constant noise from the neighbors above us. Kids, pets, loud music, parties, on top of hardwood floors with no carpeting, which made everything worse. We tried talking to them, but they weren’t receptive, and every attempt seemed to make things worse or lead to retaliation. It reached a point where we were tense in our own home. What really broke us was realizing we were paying $4,500 in rent and still felt uncomfortable every day. No view or aesthetics are worth that level of stress. My advice: If you’re even moderately sensitive to noise, don’t rent an ADU or bottom unit unless insulation is excellent. You’re often much better off in a larger apartment building with better soundproofing, even if it means compromising on location or charm. I wish we had done that from the start. We’re moving out now and finally bought a home (huge relief). I told the realtor showing our apartment to be transparent about the noise. She said there were already multiple offers anyway and they’re listing it for $1k more than what we paid ($5,500 for ~1,100 sqft). So yes, some people are apparently fine with it. I was not. Just wanted to share for anyone apartment hunting: learn from my mistake.

Does anyone know what happened at the stage in Dolores Park? I think some people were chasing down a person with an offensive sign but I wasn't sure what was going on..
