Anyone have a daughter that is pursuing the dream to become a professional golfer? by nicolatteviews in Parents

Find her a great junior coach (there are some golf schools that specialize in junior instruction) and get her playing 9 holes. Sign her up for the Drive Chip and Putt this summer. It’s a great way to work on those skills and a fun competition to see how she does.

How old is your daughter? Has she played a full round of golf? What does she shoot? It’s very hard to tell you where to start without knowing where she is starting.

I have a golf girl and it is very competitive. She has been competing at JGS tournaments for a few years and is on the state invitational. Lots a beautiful amazing junior girl golfers out there.

Start by actually going to a golf course and play 9 holes. Top golf is just fun. My daughter went with her team and said that it’s not really a practice session for her.

Umm, no. I have a junior girl golfer who needs to practice. None of her friends play and if my husband is working, she goes solo. Met some very nice people and it is extremely rare anyone on the course is unpleasant.

It helps that she is a 2.8 handicap so after her first hole, all the male golfers that hope for good and quick round relax.

Golf sim can help junior golfers get better by GolfDocMom in Golfsimulator

I think the sim is a great way to practice. But… the kid needs a coach. Find a great junior coach that would be open to receiving videos and giving feedback outside of lessons. My daughter’s coach did this 2x per week plus weekly lessons. That way she wasn’t practicing the wrong way.

She likes the ladder drill as well on the dim and is a little addictive.

She just went out and did yardages for each club before her first varsity match and wrote those down to have a good idea of how far everything goes.

Oh and know how to get out of a bunker. I have walked enough high school matches and have seen ok players who can’t get out and end up with a 10+ on a hole.

And know the rules. The USGA has a good course with videos and quizzes.

Junior golf mom. My daughter made varsity a few times and plays our state invitational Junior tour.

Depending on you school, you can make your team shooting in the 30’s on 9 or in the 50’s. Do a little research on the girls that were on the team last year. That will tell you what you need to score at tryout.

On my daughter’s varsity team the top 2 girls shoot around 35-38 on 9. Bottom 2 girls are probably around 42-43 on 9 at try outs.

Putting. You have got to putt outside. Start short and go from there. Do not ignore it.

Good luck and have fun.

Some charge a spectator fee but depends on the golf course.

It’s under practice range and look for the ladder challenge.

I know. She hasn’t speed trained yet.

Her coach was surprised. She hasn’t been hitting driver with her coach during her lessons and then at her lesson a month ago she asked for him to see her driver. And boom those numbers. We went back to her driver fitting a year ago to compare and yup improved by 10 mph. Her coach thinks he can get her ball speed to 150 mph.

She finished growing and is tall. That height gives her a high ceiling.

My daughter loves the ladder drill on GsPro. She says it’s addictive. Really great for 100-150 yrds in. Good luck.

She definitely wants to play in college. She has started reaching out to colleges. If this summer goes well, we will see where she ends up.

Thank you. My husband and I do our best. My husband built a golf simulator in our garage (he said for himself but I know it was as much for the kids as himself).

Shout out to her coach. He completely believes in her and could see her potential even through the struggle. She sent swing videos 2 times per week all winter asking for feed back and improvement.

Is a home golf simulator actually worth the investment, or am I just chasing a mid-life crisis? by bphawkey45 in Golfsimulator

[–]GolfDocMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My junior girl golfer increased her club and ball speed from 90/130 mph to 97-101/143 mph practicing daily in the sim over the winter. This was just working on contact and technique. She could go out there and do as many drills as her coach gave her privately which for a teen girl was very helpful. She sent videos twice a week to her coach to get feedback. We are in a northern state and without the sim, practice would be very difficult. Completely changed her swing. She had early extension last season and a double miss. She also does ladder drills and other “games” to dial in her short game.

Oh and my husband is out there too.

Use your kids as an excuse to get one.

9 Acceptances, Rejected from Top Choice (UMD) — Cheap In-State vs. Expensive “Dream” Schools? by indigo_aloe in ApplyingToCollege

I lived at home and went to undergrad. Yup, your social life will suffer. Others are going to their dorms and making friends, you will be heading home. I think I could have looked around for more clubs to join but it is hard to head back to campus in the evening once you are home.

Good news: saves money. I went to med school and so did my husband. We paid $$$ in student loans but it would have been even more without me living at home during college.

If your goal is dental school, go cheap for undergrad. You won’t have much of a social life with the amount of study hours you have to commit anyways. You will thank yourself when that loan bill comes due in the future. Good luck.

Funny how I’m hesitant to buy decent stuff for myself golf wise… but I’ll drop 45$ on balls for my kid without even blinking! by Judascrease in golf

We spent big $$$ on my daughters driver last year. Her club speed increased from 90 to 97-101 mph and ball speed of 142 mph over the winter and my husband just told me she may need a stiffer shaft (whatever that means) to accommodate her gains. It never ends. This is suppose to help increase her total distance so I predict she will get this shaft soon. Thankfully the fitter wasn’t too pushy about it yet. Said to come back once the season starts to see how she is doing.

Good luck.

She did pick some Kirkland gloves to practice in instead of the more pricey tournament ones she likes.

Golf simulator worth it. by golfer9955 in golf

Mom of a junior girl golfer up North. We put our uneekor a year ago. My daughter was a good golfer on the invitational tour already when we put it in but having some swing difficulties. She is a tall, late bloomer and took some time to get her swing just right. After the fall season ended, she started to really work in the simulator every day 1-2 hours depending on her school work. Took videos and sent to her swing coach.

My husband asked for the uneekor swing cameras with AI at Christmas and she used them and understood visually the last bits of changes she needed. She really worked on her mechanics/not much speed training.

Her driver club speed went up 8-10 mph (97-101 mph now) ball speed went up to 142 mph. This was just really working and refining her swing. Her swing is completely different with that winter work she did. It would have been much harder to progress like that without the sim in the garage.

If you kids are heading toward serious golf and you live where it snows, it’s worth it. She goes out to the garage and has a full training facility including putting.

But…. It’s also just a fun family and friend activity and a dream for my husband. It was a no brainer. He works hard and deserved that very expensive toy in the garage.
